Menez and Borriello scored two wonderful goals to keep Roma's unbeaten record going...
Jeremy Menez struck midway through the first half with a magnificent solo effort, before Marco Borriello added a second just before the hour mark with a powerful effort form inside the box.
The home team were first to stamp their authority on the match with some nice crisp passing in the opening moments but it was Udinese who had the first real chance when Maurizio Domizzi collected a header in the six yard box, but unmarked, he lashed the ball high over the bar.
Udinese took confidence from that early chance and Antonio Di Natale was having a lot of joy down the right hand side as Castellini was finding the Zebrette captain difficult to deal with.
However, as the match wore on Roma were asserting themselves more and in particular through Jeremy Menez. The Frenchman was causing havoc with his direct running and quick counter attacks.
Francesco Totti was also having an influence on the match, going close with a long range free kick.
But it was Menez who broke the deadlock after 25 minutes when he went on a great run, taking the ball past Benatia and then Andrea Coda on the left side before cutting in and coolly slotting the ball past Samir Handanovic into the far corner.
Not disheartened by the goal, Udinese tried to find an equaliser but had Juan to deal with as the Brazilian was in excellent form at the back.
Floro Flores had the chance to put the ball in the back of the net but his shot from 12 yards out was hit straight at Julio Sergio in the Roma goal. Di Natale also had a couple of chances but both were put wide.
Marco Borriello was a somewhat peripheral figure for the home side and barely got a strike on goal, though Menez was causing plenty of issues right up until the half-time whistle.
Roma continued from where they left off in the second period had an early opportunity when Menez broke through giving the home team a 3-versus-2 situation but he chose to shoot from well outside the area much to the annoyance of Borriello who could have been played in on goal.
But Borriello got his reward just before the hour mark. He received the ball on the edge of the area and under the attentions of Domizzi he held the defender off before unleashing an unstoppable shot at the goal that went in between the goalkeeper and the near post.
Then straight after the restart Floro Flores went close but Julio Sergio was equal to his effort. and later in the half he collected the ball beautifully in the six yard box but once more his finish left a lot to be desired. Juan also blocked a spectacular Di Natale effort.
Soon after a moment of stupidity from Nicolas Burdisso led to the Argentinean being sent off with ten minutes to play after pushing Domizzi in the chest in the built up to a corner. He them charged into his opponent leaving no doubt in the referees mind.
The away side looked to take full advantage and right after Burdisso was off the park Alexis Sanchez smashed a brilliant effort at goal but it came away off the upright.
Substitute German Denis was then played through but he unbelievably dragged his effort across goal and didn't even hit the target from eight yards out.
As expected, Udinese were on the front foot and threw everything at Roma and German Denis found the back of the net but it was ruled out for offside.
As a result of the win Roma have moved into third place in Serie A if only for 24 hours, while Udinese remain in eighth.
