AND IT IS OVER! Real Madrid have come back from a goal down to claim an important victory. Three goals and an assist for Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid and two goals for Villarreal through Cani and Ruben. Kaka also scored on his return to the Bernabeu in a game full of emotion and excitement. Real Madrid were clearly the better side of the two in the second half and deservedly bag the three points. It is good night from me, Vasil Kotsev! Stay with us for our post-match materials and join us next week for our coverage of the most exciting games from the biggest football leagues in Europe and the Asia Cup as well! Good night!
90' + 2'
Rossi whips in a free-kick from the right, it is cleared in the path of Mario, but the substitute's shot from outside the box flies over the bar.
90' + 1'
There will be four minutes of added time ...
Cani was also sent off from the bench, following an altercation with Jose Mourinho as he threatened to throw a bottle of water at the coach. The Portuguese might receive a ban for his shenanigans in this game.
Rossi blasts the free-kick over the bar. Poorly taken by the Italy international ...
Sergio Ramos concedes a free-kick from just outside the box. Rossi is going to take it ...
Garrido was sent off a couple of minutes ago and Mourinho should have been, too, after celebrating right in front of Villarreal's substitute bench and fans.
GOAL! KAKA SCORES! Ronaldo crossed from the left after a marvellous touch for the on-rushing Kaka and the ex-Milan man made no mistake with his deft finish from inside the box.
Gago replaces Benzema. The Argentinian picked up an injury in pre-season and has just returned from rehabilitation.
GOAL! CRISTIANO RONALDO SCORES! The Portuguese ace found himself on the end of a blocked ball by Diego Lopez, managed to poke it back for Benzema, who was denied by the goalkeeper, and then Ronaldo took over the ball, turned and smashed it into the low right corner.
Yellow CardÁngel Di María
Emotions are boiling on the pitch as Bruno and Di Maria are booked. The midfield enforcer for the challenge and the winger for the reaction after the incident.
Yellow CardSanti Cazorla
Vital challenge from Carvalho on Rossi as the striker was just about to shoot from inside the box, following a good pass by Borja Valero.
ORIOL! The substitute received the ball on the left, and with Sergio Ramos tripping over, he sent in a shot that went well wide of the right post.
Yellow CardXabi Alonso
Cani is hacked to the ground by Xabi Alonso in the centre of the pitch and the ex-Liverpool player receives a yellow card.
Real Madrid are looking increasingly dangerous in attack. Kaka comes on for Raul Albiol. Well, this is a risky move by Jose Mourinho.
Sensing the storm coming, Juan Carlos Garrido replaced striker Ruben with defender Musacchio. Can this bring the desired result?
DI MARIA! The winger burst through three players from the right side of the penalty area, but was dispossessed on the edge of the six-yard box.
WHAT A WASTE FROM RONALDO! The striker found himself on the end of a stray ball in the penalty box and failed to round Lopez in a one-on-one under no pressure at all. He went for the pass and Sergio Ramos blasted his shot from near the penalty spot over the bar.
Angel is forced to leave the pitch for Mario after stepping awkwardly on his left foot.
MARCELO! So close! The defender send in a cross for Benzema, from the left, but the referee raised his flag for a non-existent offside. A mistake by the referee here.
Horrible accident! Angel bumps his head with power in the right post in an effort to clear the ball. The game is stopped so Angel can receive medical treatment.
BENZEMA! The striker was released on the left side of the box and sent in a powerful finish which Diego Lopez managed to deflect for a corner kick.
DI MARIA! The winger turned Capdevila inside and out before let it fly from just outside the penalty box, but his shot missed over the bar.
Real Madrid do not seem too willing to venture forward, which is surprising considering the current situation.
WHAT AN INTERVENTION FROM KHEDIRA! The Germany international dispossessed Rossi with a timely challenge as the forward was just about to break free.
Now Angel gets cautioned with a yellow card after a foul on Marcelo. Certainly a deserved booking.
RONALDO! The Portuguese ran down the left and after of flurry of step-overs and flicks saw his cross stopped in the centre of the box. The ex-Manchester United man seems to be playing with much more drive after the break.
Yellow CardKarim Benzema
Benzema brings down Borja Valero with a late challenge in the centre of the pitch. Yellow card for the forward.
Lassana Diarra leaves the pitch for Sami Khedira. Not surprising, considering the Frenchman's performance before the break.
The second half begins ...
45' + 2'
The referee blows his whistle for the end of the first half! A timely goal from Ronaldo has given Los Blancos a lifeline! Cani and Ronaldo traded goals, before Marco Ruben put Villarreal ahead with a wonderful chipped goal. Ronaldo restored parity in first half injury time to make things even more interesting. Los Blancos are still getting yelled at by Mourinho in the changing room, however, as they have been unconvincing in defence and not as efficient in attack as we are used to seeing them. Who will prevail tonight in this fiery clash at the Bernabeu? Join us in around fifteen minutes to find out.
45' + 1'
GOAL! RONALDO SCORES! Where was Villarreal's defence! As much as three Los Blancos' players were left unmarked just outside the six-yard box and it was Cristiano Ronaldo who powered a header past Lopez, following Xabi Alonso's delivery from the free-kick on the left. Game on!
Angel hacks down Di Maria on the left outside of the box. Can they score from this set-piece?
MARCELO! Oh, what a run from the Brazilian! The defender raced into the penalty box and crossed from the byline, but saw his delivery cleared by Gonzalo.
RONALDO! Dispossessed! The Portuguese combined well with Di Maria, but made one extra touch the cost him possession of the ball. It was a decent attack, nonetheless.
Real Madrid look frustrated in attack as Villarreal are water-tight at the back. Khedira is warming up, too. Whoever of Lassana Diarra or Xabi Alonso he replaces, it will be an improvement.
Kaka is warming up. Can the Brazilian superstar turn the game around?
CAZORLA! What a run from the winger! The Spain international received the ball on the flank and advanced to the edge of the penalty box, skipping past three players in his wake, before being stopped by Carvalho. He overdid things here as he should have either shot or passed earlier.
BENZEMA! Terrible finish! Ronaldo received the ball on the flank after a poor pass by Cani was cleared by Albiol, and sent a good through-ball for Benzema, who tried to hit the ball first-time from a very difficult angle and flew horribly wide of the left post.
RUBEN! Rossi ran down the left and crossed from the byline, but Casillas managed to get hold of the ball before it could reach Ruben.
ROSSI! The Italy international was picked out by Borja Valero near the penalty spot, but was dispossessed just before he could pull the trigger on the volley!
GOAL! Ruled out! Offside! Wonderful defending by Villarreal! Ronaldo fell into the offside trap after as he was lurking on the left side of the box. The ace scored, but the referee had the flag up.
Los Blancos are defending with five at the back and still look like conceding as frustration begins to get the better of Jose Mourinho's men. Upset on the cards?
DI MARIA! Wonderful shot! Saved by Lopez! The Argentina international took his time before sending a crashing drive from 35 yards out, but it was saved by the ex-Real Madrid goalkeeper.
GOAL! NO! RULED OUT! Cani split Los Blancos' defence with a fine pass for Cazorla, the winger finished superbly, but it was correctly ruled out for offside.
There they go again! Rossi was released in the box following a fast break, but took too long to shoot or pass and was crowded out and dispossessed by Real Madrid's defence.
GOAL! MARCO RUBEN PUTS THE YELLOW SUBMARINE IN FRONT! Bruno Soriano released Ruben with a sublime through-ball, the striker accelerated to right of the box, leaving Carvalho in his wake, before lobbing a shot over Casillas! Outstanding strike!
An interesting fact - Villarreal have never won at the Bernabeu. Can they make it today?
RUBEN! The striker blasts a poorly struck volley wide of the post. There were suspicions of a penalty as Xabi Alonso allegedly committed an offence in the box.
Breathtaking action at the Bernabeu! Two goals in two minutes and plenty of excitement. Is a repeat of Milan - Udinese on the cards? Only time will tell ...
DIARRA WITH A SHOT! The defensive midfielder tried his luck from range, but saw his drive fizzle wide of the left post. It seems that the ball took a deflection before going out, but no corner kick on the left is given.
GOAL! RONALDO SCORES! Talking about efficiency here! Los Blancos draw the game level with their first real attack! Benzema managed to draw three defenders on the edge of the penalty box and then somehow slid a pass to release Oezil on the right side of the box. The Germany international crossed for Ronaldo just outside the six-yard box and the Portuguese ace slammed home from close range!
GOAL! CANI SCORES! Bernabeu stunned! Cazorla picked out Rossi on the edge of the box, the Italy international released Cani with a fine flick and the ex-Real Zaragoza man made no mistake with his finish from ten yards out! Game on!
Villarreal look very tight at the back and now Di Maria meets a wall of bodies in his efforts to race to the penalty box.
Angel bullies Ronaldo off the ball with some help of Borja Valero. It promises to be an interesting duel between the two down the left.
The visitors show us right from the start that they are not afraid to attack. They seem impressive in keeping the ball, too.
CAZORLA! So close! The winger was picked out by Marco Ruben just outside the box and sent in a rather weak effort which was deflected for a corner kick by Sergio Ramos. Nothing came off from that set-piece, though.
And they are off!
Villarreal: Lopez; Catala, Gonzalo, Capdevila, Lopez; Bruno, Borja Valero, Cazorla, Cani; Rossi, Ruben.
Real Madrid: Casillas; Albiol, Carvalho, Marcelo, Ramos; Alonso, Diarra, Ronaldo, Di Maria; Benzema, Oezil.
