Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is likely to rotate his squad for the visit of Sevilla after Wednesday's penalty shoot-out defeat to Bayern Munich.

Gonzalo Higuain, Kaka and Esteban Granero are all pushing for returns to the starting XI, but Ricardo Carvalho (thigh) remains a doubt.

Sevilla will welcome back goalkeeper Andres Palop, who has overcome his calf problem, whilst Emir Spahic has also returned to fitness and could replace the injured Julien Escude in defence.

Los Nervionenses coach Michel will also be without the services of injured duo Frederic Kanoute and Diego Perotti, while Gary Medel and Manu del Moral are suspended.

  DID YOU KNOW?
  • Real Madrid are unbeaten in their last 19 league matches (W16, D3).
  • Los Blancos can clinch the Primera Division title with victory against Sevilla, provided Barcelona lose at Rayo Vallecano later on Sunday.
  • With 42 goals to his name, Cristiano Ronaldo (pictured right) is on track to become the first player since Hugo Sanchez to retain the top scorer title in La Liga. Sanchez won four straight 'Pichichi' awards between 1985-88.
  • Sevilla have won just three of their last 11 away matches in La Liga.
  • The Andalusians have lost their last six meetings with Madrid. Their last win at the Bernabeu was a 4-3 success in December 2008.
  • Only Barcelona (26) and Madrid (30) have conceded fewer goals in the Primera Division this term than Sevilla (39).

The Basque playmaker did not have one of his better games against Bayern, as he struggled to exert the sort of control in midfield that would have allowed Madrid to play the ball out to Ronaldo and Karim Benzema more often. As one half of the double-pivot that Mourinho likes to employ, the 30-year-old serves as the link connecting defence and attack and his wide passing range is key to stretching the opposition and releasing the forwards.

The Spain international has been in a rich vein of form, netting six goals in his last six games to keep Sevilla in the hunt for Europa League qualification. With his strike partner Manu ruled out through suspension, the pressure is even greater on the former Real Madrid B player to deliver in front of goal.
Prediction
The lunchtime kick-off will be Mourinho's biggest concern, as his players looked dead on their feet long before the final whistle against Bayern. Nevertheless, the home side should have enough left in the tank to defeat the Andalusians, who make the trip to the capital shorn of a few key players.
