Mourinho's side advance to the quarter-finals at CSKA Moscow's expense after a comfortable 4-1 win at the Bernabeu this evening. A brace from Cristiano Ronaldo and further goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema sent them through, although CSKA's Zoran Tosic did grab the best goal of the game with a fine long-range strike in the second half. Thanks for joining me this evening. Good night!
FULL-TIME: Real Madrid 4-1 CSKA Moscow.
90' + 4'
GOAAALLL!!!!! RONALDO GETS HIS SECOND!!! Some superb, unselfish play from Karim Benzema sets Ronaldo up, the Frenchman choosing to pass rather than shoot and in doing so providing Ronaldo with an easy finish from 6 yards out. 4-1 to Madrid.
90' + 4'
90' + 2'
A pesky fan with a whistle has just imitated the full-time beeping. It is two minutes early though, and fools nobody.
90' + 1'
Alexey Berezutskiy nearly fashions a chance on the edge of the Madrid area but a heavy touch from him allows the ball to run out for a goal-kick. That was a chance for the visitors!
4 minutes of added time have been awarded.
Sergio Ramos has struggled since the arrival of Tomas Necid, and the Madrid centre-back is hugely fortunate not to receive a second yellow card after lunging through the back of the CSKA striker.
Some Madrid fans appear to think this one is over already, with some heading for the exits already.
Ozil makes way for Lassana Diarra for Real Madrid as the game edges towards its conclusion.
CSKA then waste a finely-placed free-kick 35 yards out, Mamaev floating it straight into the arms of the waiting Casillas. A terrible set piece there.
Sadly, there's no goal to report as CSKA are pulled back for a foul on Casillas as the corner is floated in.
CSKA have a corner after persistent play from Necid on the left. A goal here would liven this one up!
Yellow CardPavel Mamaev
Mamaev hacks Alonso down on the left and Madrid are correctly awarded a free-kick. The CSKA sub is rightly shown a yellow card for his petulant kick at the Spanish international.
Necid is the man we mentioned earlier who spoke before the game of a horoscope that told him he would score a late hat-trick tonight. Let's see if it comes true! He has a chance soon after coming on, but his strike is straight at Casillas.
CSKA are going for it. Tosic looked to pick up a knock as he scored that goal, and he is replaced by the striker Tomas Necid a few minutes later.
Madrid HAD started to look comfortable before that Tosic wonder-strike. They will want to kill this game off quickly.
You do not save those. Casillas could do absolutely nothing about that one from Tosic!
SCRAP THAT LAST COMMENT!!!! WHAT A GOAL THAT IS FROM TOSIC!! CSKA counter attack and the ball reaches Tosic on the left, he cuts insides, shifts the ball onto his left foot, before hammering a shot home from outside the area.
Doumbia is correctly flagged offside as CSKA get a rare opportunity to break into the Madrid area. The away side look deflated out there following Benzema's goal.
Madrid appear unhappy to settle with three goals and are throwing men forward in search of a fourth. They are queuing up on the edge of the CSKA penalty area.
Madrid are running away with this one now. It could have all been so different if Doumbia had put away his chance at the very start of the game. He didn't, and Mourinho's side have now made CSKA pay the price. 3-0 to the home side.
30 SECONDS LATER AND IT IS 3-0!!!!! Benzema has two bites at the apple, his first shot is saved well but the rebound falls at his feet and he joyously punts the ball home from 8 yards.
Another free-kick for Madrid. Alexey Berezutskiy hauls down Higuain 40 yards from goal. Cynical play from the defender. It is Higuain's last contribution in this game, as he is applauded from the pitch by the Madrid faithful, to be replaced by Karim Benzema.
DOUMBIA SHOULD SCORE!!! The Ivorian races past Ramos, and gets a slice of luck as Casillas rushes out but misses the ball, but his first-time effort is poor and floats harmlessly wide of the right-hand post.
CSKA HAVE EQUALISED!!!! OH NO, HANG ON, THE FLAG IS UP!! The substitute Oliseh is pulled back for offside after breaking free behind the Madrid defence.
Ronaldo nearly makes immediate amends for his poor set-piece by gliding through a couple of challenges before prodding a cross towards Higuain in the area. Alexey Berezutskiy does brilliantly to get in front of the Argentine and hack the ball away.
Ozil wins a free-kick 30 yards out. Ronaldo let Alonso take the first two but he appears to have demanded this one. His attempt is no better than Alonso's first-half efforts though, as it strikes the wall.
Seven minutes ago @kingkuskus messaged me on Twitter saying nothing more than 'Ronaldo is going to score today'. He then did, just 60 seconds later. Good shout @kingkuskus!
Ahmed Firaz Moosa
Sekou Jabateh Oliseh
Musa is the man that makes way for Oliseh. That is a surprising decision from the CSKA manager Leonid Slutsky, as in my opinion Musa looked one of CSKA's more dangerous players this evening.
CSKA need goals now, and they look to be making another change, with Sekou Jabateh Oliseh warming up on the sidelines and looking ready to come on.
Higuain looks to have increased Madrid's lead with a curling effort from the left-hand side of the area, but the linesman's flag is up on the far side, with replays showing it is the correct decision.
He is a long way out when he hits that Ronaldo. After singing the praises of CSKA's keeper all night, he then produces a horrible error to leave his side needing to score two goals to have any chance of progressing to the quarter-finals.
GOAAALLLL!!!!!! 2-0 to Madrid. Ronaldo finds a pocket of space 35 yards out, and hits a speculative effort goalwards from distance. Chepchugov should gather the ball comfortably, but he doesn't! Instead the ball cannons off his arm and into the back of the net.
CSKA look to break through Mamaev, he shifts it left to Tosic, but the former Manchester United man's final ball is poor and Iker Casillas leaps to claim it comfortably.
Musa does brilliantly in defence to take the ball off the feet of Ozil as the German wizard attempts to conjure some magic on the edge of the CSKA penalty area. Good defensive play from the usually attack-minded winger.
Yellow CardXabi Alonso
There is a suspension on its way for Xabi Alonso. The Madrid midfielder produces a crude challenge in the centre of the park, and the referee correctly shows him a yellow card. He will miss their next game in Europe because of it. That is a big loss for Mourinho's side.
Sergey Chepchugov produces another fine save to keep the score at 1-0, this time from Ronaldo, after the Portuguese attacker had raced into the left-hand side of the penalty area.
Ronaldo is dispossessed by a fantastic challenge from Mamaev but the ball falls straight to the feet of Kaka, who strikes an effort inches wide from the edge of the CSKA penalty area.
Madrid have caressed the ball about the Bernabeu pitch nicely this evening, and are good value for their lead as this second half gets underway.
The teams are back out at the Bernabeu, with CSKA making a single change at the interval, the midfielder Pavel Mamaev replacing Evgeni Aldonin.
I doubt 601 is Gonzalo Higuain's lucky number. He scored his first goal in the CL knockout phase this evening. It has taken him 10 CL knockout phase matches to do it, a total of 601 minutes!! Torres-esque!
Real Madrid have not reached successive #UCL quarterfinals since 2003/2004 and Iker Casillas is the only remaining player from 03/04.
Some quick half-time stats for you to ponder guys. Let me know on Twitter what you think by messaging @charliefscott.
HALF-TIME: Real Madrid 1-0 CSKA Moscow. Gonzalo Higuain's goal separates the two sides at the Bernabeu, the Argentine striker scoring midway through the first half to give his side the lead. It is now 2-1 on aggregate to Mourinho's men, with CSKA needing to score to have any hope of advancing from this tie. Madrid have one foot in the quarter-finals at the moment. Join me in 10 minutes for the second half of this exciting game.
The referee blows the whistle to signal the end of the first half.
Madrid nearly create a goalscoring chance through Marcelo. He gets to the byline, pulls the ball back, but it is behind Higuain, and the CSKA defence react well to clear the ball away.
CSKA are far from out of this one. They always needed a goal after Madrid scored in Moscow in the first leg, if they equalise tonight, it goes to extra-time. If they score more than one and draw, they go through on away goals!
Ronaldo finds a yard of space to dink a cross into the area, but again Sergey Chepchugov is out to claim the ball. Apparently he is CSKA's third-choice goalkeeper. He looks confident tonight!
Mesut Ozil dances his way down the right-hand side before cutting into the penalty area, but his eventual cross is behind his team-mates, and runs out for a throw.
Yellow CardAhmed Firaz Moosa
Ronaldo surprisingly allows Alonso to again take the set piece. His cross is poor though, and easily cleared by the CSKA defence.
Musa chops Marcelo down in the corner, and is given a yellow card for his troubles. Quite a handy position for a free-kick wide on the left for Madrid.
Our man at the Santiago Bernabeu, Alberto Pinero, has sent us a couple of stats for you to enjoy. That goal for Gonzalo Higuain makes it 4 in 4 for the Argentine, while it also takes him to 21 goals for the season, the same tally as the man he is chosen ahead of this evening, Karim Benzema. Mourinho is spoilt for choice!
GOOD SAVE BY CASILLAS!!! Ahmed Musa cuts in from the left and arrows a shot goalwards with his left foot that the Spanish international does well to tip over the bar.
Yellow CardVasiliy Berezutskiy
The set piece hits the wall, and Madrid break immediately. Ronaldo streams into the CSKA half and is approaching the area when he is cynically chopped down by Vasiliy Berezutskiy. He receives a yellow card for the challenge. Alonso takes the resulting free-kick, but it flies harmlessly over the CSKA crossbar.
Zoran Tosic is fouled by Alvaro Arbeloa 25 yards out, and CSKA have a free-kick in a very dangerous position here...
Marcelo stumbles as he races onto a pass going into the CSKA penalty area. There are some timid shouts from his team-mates for a penalty, but the referee is never going to give that one.
Ronaldo has lost his footing on a couple of occasions on the turf at the Bernabeu this evening. A change of footwear in order for the attacker?
GOAAAALLL!!!! 1-0 to Madrid!!! Gonzalo Higuain gets the final touch after Madrid appeared to shift through a couple of gears there. Khedira does well to lift a ball over the top to Kaka on the left, he then pulls the ball back to Higuain, who makes no mistake from 6 yards out with Chepchugov caught out of position.
Ramos dives in to a challenge for not the first time this evening, but his tackle on this occasion is good, and it starts an impressive attack for the home side.
Ronaldo looks like he fancies it tonight, the Portuguese star has shown some sublime touches already in this match, the last of which very nearly set Higuain free inside the area.
Ronaldo knocks a great ball into the area towards Higuain but Chepchugov does well to come off his line and claim the ball in front of the Argentine striker.
On Twitter, @IDYESCIEN has been in touch to say 'For Necid, I hope his horoscope works.' For those of you that haven't heard about this in the build-up to tonight's game, Tomas Necid, one of CSKA's substitutes tonight, has spoken before the game of how his horoscope has informed him that he will score a late hat-trick in this tie. We will see!!
Ronaldo does superbly down the left, before showing the composure and awareness to knock a ball into the area towards HIguain. That pass is cleared to the edge of the box, but straight to Kaka, but his shot is weak and wide.
The CSKA goalkeeper Sergey Chepchugov has just been booked, for what I think is time-wasting. That is pretty harsh on the man between the sticks.
Alonso sweeps a fine ball out to Marcelo, and the Brazilian crosses into the area, but it is cleared, but only as far as Alonso, who strikes a first-time effort towards goal that is deflected over for a corner.
Yellow CardSergey Chepchugov
Ozil goes down under the challenge of Sergey Ignashevich inside the area, and looks towards the referee for a penalty, but his appeals are waved away. Ignashevich looks far from impressed with the German's theatrics there.
Marcelo was rinsed for pace by Musa there. You don't see that everyday!! The Brazilian full-back is NOT slow.
ANOTHER CHANCE FOR CSKA!! Ahmed Musa goes charging down the right, with Marcelo nowhere to be seen. The winger slides a cross through to Doumbia, but he fails to connect, and the ball rolls across the length of the area to safety.
That amounts to nothing and Madrid threaten to break through Kaka, but he is dispossessed well by Alexey Berezutskiy.
Sergio Ramos has just flown into the back of Dzagoev, and the referee rightly awards CSKA a free-kick.
Doumbia is hassling the two Madrid centre-backs here, and they do not like it one bit. Pepe nearly loses possession in a dangerous position, under good pressure from the Ivorian striker.
CHANCE FOR MADRID!!! Cristiano Ronaldo nearly scores immediately after Doumbia's miss, but his shot is straight down the throat of the CSKA keeper Chepchugov.
AND THAT IS A MASSIVE CHANCE FOR CSKA!!!!! Seydou Doumbia shoots over the top after being played through by a fine ball.
Get your pen and pencil out people, note this down, Xabi Alonso has just overhit a pass.
I'm looking forward to seeing Alan Dzagoev in action tonight. The attacking midfielder has bags of talent at his disposal.
Pepe makes an important interception for the home side as CSKA look to break on the counter attack.
Real Madrid have scored 78 goals in their 20 official home matches this season (all competitions), an average of just under 4 goals per match. How many do you think they are going to get tonight? This game is far from won, so they will have to go for it!
Madrid have passed the ball around nicely in the opening few minutes. Mesut Ozil is calling for the ball at every opportunity.
CSKA's players get the chance to play on real grass this evening, what with their home pitch being made from synthetic greenery. A rare treat!
We are off!!
Feel free to tweet me your thoughts on the match as it unravels by sending your messages to @charliefscott. I will copy the best comments I receive on to this commentary throughout the game.
The teams are in the tunnel at the Bernabeu, and we are minutes away from kick-off here...
The away side are unchanged from the team that earned a 1-1 draw in Moscow, with Keisuke Honda failing to shrug off a thigh problem, after impressing when coming on as a substitute in the first leg.
Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has kept faith with Gonzalo Higuain as the Argentine starts up front despite Karim Benzema's return from injury. The French striker takes his place on the bench, alongside Turkey midfielder Nuri Sahin.

Hello and welcome to Goal.com's coverage of this evening's Champions League last-16 second leg clash between Real Madrid and CSKA Moscow at the Santiago Bernabeu. I'm Charlie Scott and I'll be guiding you through tonight's action. Jose Mourinho's side looked set to bring a 1-0 win back to the Bernabeu from the first leg, but for a late late equaliser from CSKA midfielder Pontus Wernbloom. That goal has opened things up a bit in this tie, and will have given CSKA confidence coming into the game, with Leonid Slutsky's side focussing on securing what would be a famous win.
