Full time in the Spanish capital. Real Madrid were already qualified in second place but have breezed through to the last 16 with an extremely comfortable 4-1 victory over Ajax. However, the Dutch champions will be content with the knowledge that they have managed to secure a place in the Europa League despite the result. Group D finishes with Borussia Dortmund topping the group, Madrid finishing second, Ajax claiming third, and Manchester City out of Europe with a last-place finish. I'm Martin Macdonald, thank you for joining us on Goal.com!
90' + 1'
It should be 5-1!! Morata finds himself in plenty of space inside the box but takes far too many touches and allows Vermeer to dash from goal and make the save at the feet of the Madrid man! The substitute should have grabbed a goal there!
Madrid probing for a fifth. Morata and Modric link-up outside the box and the ball eventually comes to the Croatian who stabs a left-footed shot at goal but it is easy for Vermeer who collects.
GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAL FOR REAL MADRID!!! Far too easy! Morata shows pace and skill on the right and clips a perfect cross to the back post for Callejon who nods the ball back where it came into the bottom right corner! 4-1. Job done for Madrid.
Manchester City are currently down 1-0 to Dortmund in Germany so if both results remain the same, Ajax will still qualify for the Europa League.
Fair play to Ajax, they have stepped up their play significantly in the second half. However, they have been up against a Madrid side who secured the victory shortly after the break and have played with a low tempo.
Yellow CardC. Ronaldo
Morata is called offside correctly by the linesman but he did not need to be! Ronaldo picks out a pass through the middle for the substitute, who had plenty of room to time his run, but he got a rush of blood to the head and went to early. A lack of experience being shown there, I think.
Real Madrid follow suit and Jose Mourinho gives a chance to yet another youngster. Alvaro Morata comes on for Karim Benzema. Well, the Portuguese coach has been chastised in recent months for not utilising his younger players enough, but he has done so tonight and in recent games.
Double substitution from Ajax. Hoesen and Fischer are replaced by Tobias Sana and Eyong Enoh.
Yellow CardRicardo Carvalho
Siem de Jong steps up and curls the free kick over the bar. Not the worst attempt from the Ajax captain but it still must go down as yet another wasted set-piece.
First yellow of the card of the match goes to Ricardo Carvalho. The Portuguese slides in on Boerrigter 25 yards from goal. A deserved booking.
Much opening up more now. Ajax have stepped up a few gears since going 3-0 down and they had Madrid looked shaken. But the hosts have felt their way back into the match and both sides looks capable of scoring.
Some history being made now. Jose Rodriguez has been introduced to the action and he is now Real Madrid's youngest ever player to appear in the Champions League. A proud moment for the young man. He'll replace Kaka.
Ajax must stop being so wasteful. Van Rhijn finds himself in a great position with plenty of space down the left. He has time to pick out a cross but fires the ball high and wide out of play. Frank De Boer must be tearing his hair out.
Considering their total domination of the first period, this second half has become nowhere near as comfortable for Real Madrid as Jose Mourinho would have liked. They were cruising at 3-0, but if Ajax get one back now then nervousness may creep in for the hosts.
What a chance for Ajax!!! Awful finish from Hoesen!! The 21-year old finds himself with only Adan to beat but balloons his shot way over the bar! If Ajax score that they are back in this match!
Boerrigter manages to hit the target but Adan saves. The Ajax man bent the ball around the Madrid wall but the positioning of the goalkeeper is excellent and he manages to claim the ball.
Free kick to Ajax in a great position. Luka Modric gives away a free kick around 21 yards from goal.
For the first time in the match, Real Madrid have retreated into a deep defensive position while Ajax enjoy a period of possession. Let's see if the Dutch side can make any chances while they are on top.
Ajax have been much, much better in the last 10 minutes. They are playing with a lot more confidence in the final third.
GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAL FOR AJAX!!!! Well, it wasn't from a set-piece, but it was fortuitous! Adan inexplicably comes from his line to collect the ball but punches it straight to the feet of Boerrigter who shows composure to side-foot the ball into the empty net! Mourinho is furious!
Fischer goes close!! The Dane picks up the ball 15 yards out and smashes a shot towards the top right corner but it goes just wide! Ajax getting closer!
Another wasted set-piece from Ajax. Eriksen whips the ball into a good area but nobody is there to attack the ball. Adan collects comfortably and launches a counterattack down the left through Ronaldo.
Benzema glances wide from three yards! The Frenchman gets on the end of a cross at the near post but fails to get a good connection on his header and it goes wide of the mark! That should have been 4-0!
Decent attempt from Boerrigter. He cuts inside from the left and whips a shot towards the near post but Adan got his body behind the ball to make a solid save.
Good link-up play from Madrid. Benzema turns the ball round the corner for Ronaldo who drives at pace down the left-hand side. He looks to picj out Callejon at the back post but Ajax manage to clear for a corner kick. The hosts have came flying out the blocks!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAL FOR REAL MADRID!!! World class from Kaka! The Brazilian receives a pass from Ronaldo and, from 20 yards out, curls a wonderful left-footed strike into the top corner! 3-0! Horrible start to the second half from Ajax!
Great ball from Khedira!! The German finds himself in an advanced position down the right and lashes a teasing cross along the six-yard box but neither Benzema or Ronaldo can get on the end of it!
WE ARE BACK UNDER WAY!
Half time in Madrid. Los Blancos have cruised through the opening 45 minutes and find themselves comfortably two goals up thanks to goals from Ronaldo and Callejon. Ajax haven't had a look in. Join us in 15 minutes for the second period!
Real Madrid get a corner kick on the stroke of half-time. Modric whips in the set-piece and Varane rises high to power a header at goal. It goes just over the bar.
A rare shot on goal from Ajax, sprouting from some positive play from Fischer. The 18-year-old twists inside the box and wriggles through challenges but sees his deflected shot run into the arms of Adan.
Ajax also make a change in the first half. Christian Poulsen comes off for Lasse Schone. It is unclear whether the Dane has an injury or not. With the way Ajax are playing it could indeed be tactical.
Great save from Vermeer!! Sami Khedira picks up possession 25 yards out and lashes a strike towards the bottom left corner but the Ajax goalkeeper does excellently to turn the ball round the post!
Well, what a complete waste. Eriksen steps up and drills the ball directly at the two-man Real Madrid wall and the hosts manage to clear. Ajax simply cannot afford to be so poor at set-pieces as it is likely the only chance they will get to score.
Ajax now with a chance to threaten the Real Madrid goal. Boerrigter is judged to have been brought down by Nacho. Let's see what they can do with this.
Ronaldo steps up and smashes the ball off the wall and it fortuitously deflects into the hands of Vermeer who is lying on the floor after diving for the previous shot! Touch of good luck about that for Ajax.
Ajax give away another free kick on the edge of the box, this time for a foul on Karim Benzema. They cannot keep giving Ronaldo these set-piece opportunities. He'll punish you eventually.
A corner kick comes in from the left and Vermeer unconvincingly palms the ball to the back post for Benzema. The ball eventually comes to Nacho and the youngster tries the spectacular from 30 yards. Well over the bar.
GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAL FOR REAL MADRID!! Gorgeous move! Modric, whilst facing away from goal, turns and lobs a glorious pass over the top of the Ajax defence for Callejon, who takes three lovely touches before driving forward and finishing in off the post! 2-0! Madrid cruising!
Ajax have showed nothing in the final third so far. They have not been terrible but they just need more of the ball in order to affect the play.
Vermeer saves the free kick! Unorthodox from the Ajax goalkeeper! The ball twists and turns in the air and the Ajax goalkeeper has to adjust himself in mid air to punch the ball clear!
Free kick to Real Madrid. Kaka takes the ball down expertly before slipping the ball inside to Ronaldo who is tripped on the edge of the box. I think the Portuguese fancies this one...
Jose Mourinho has been forced into a substitution here. Fabio Coentrao looks to have tweaked a hamstring and he'll have to be replaced by Pepe. Nacho has switched to left-back.
Ronaldo clears the ball high up the park following an Ajax corner kick. Van Rhijn collects the ball at the back and picks out Blind with a fantastic crossfield pass to the left wing. Small period of possession for the visitors here.
Great save by Vermeer! Benzema collects the ball in the inside-right channel just inside the box and cuts the ball on to his left-foot before fizzing a strike at goal. However, the Ajax goalkeeper remains solid to palm the ball away.
Madrid have been superb in the last 10 minutes. They are playing with so much freedom which is providing us with some beautiful football in the final third. You fear the worst for the Dutch champions with Los Blancos in this type of mood.
Very, very entertaining match in the last five minutes or so. End-to-end stuff and why shouldn't it be like this with Madrid playing without any pressure. Fair play to Ajax, they are upholding their swashbuckling philosophy.
GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAL FOR REAL MADRID!!! Modric does brilliantly to win the ball back in midfield and pick a fantastic pass over the top of the Ajax defence for Benzema. The striker then remains calm and picks out Ronaldo inside the box, who emphatically smashes home!
Real Madrid hit the post!! Modric drifts in from the left wing and picks out Coentrao just inside the area. The Portuguese lashes a shot with the outside of his left-foot towards goal but it cannons off the post! Ajax let off the hook!
Eriksen does well to shield the ball away from Khedira on the left-hand side, which opens up plenty of space to run down the wing. However, a bad touch allows the German to recover and reclaim possession. The Dane should have done better there.
GOOOOOOOAAAAAL FOR REAL MADRID!! WAIT! NO! OFFSIDE! Ronaldo back-heels the ball into the path of Kaka who picks out Benzema inside the box. The Frenchman slides home but his celebration is cut short by the linesman, who raises his flag.
It has been a low-key start to the match here in Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid have played the ball around the midfield at ease and they don't look to have the desire to exert themselves too much in the opening stages.
The Portuguese is involved in the action again. This time he receives the ball at the back but is clattered by Boerrigter. Free kick to the home side just inside their own half.
Siem de Jong breaks forward from the left and looks to pick out Fischer with a threaded pass through the middle but Carvalho steps in with an excellent interception. Madrid break forward.
WE ARE UNDER WAY IN THE SPANISH CAPITAL!
Ajax have failed to win on any of their last five visits to Spain, losing four. Their last success was a 3-2 victory at Atletico Madrid in the 1996/97 season.
Real Madrid's seven-game winning streak at home in the Champions League was ended by a 2-2 draw with Dortmund on matchday four.
We are approaching kick-off now, so don't forget to post your thoughts, feelings and prediction on the game on to our Live Match Centre!
Los Blancos humbled the Dutch champions at the Amsterdam Arena in the previous match in the group. Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a hat-trick in the match which ended up in a 4-1 drubbing for Madrid.
Some expected changes from Jose Mourinho then. Nacho and Varane get a chance in defence, and key players such as Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos are rested.
This is the starting XI of Ajax: Vermeer; Van Rhijn, Alderweireld, Moisander, Blind; Poulsen, Eriksen; De Jong, Boerrigter, Hoesen; Fischer
This is how Real Madrid will be lining up tonight: Adan; Coentrao, Varane, Carvalho, Nacho; Khedira, Modric; Callejon, Kaka, Ronaldo; Benzema
THE TEAMS ARE IN.
I'm Martin Macdonald, and I'll be taking you through the action this evening. Real Madrid have already confirmed their progression to the last 16 with their second place finish in the group, but Ajax still have a lot to play for with a place in the Europa League on the line.
