Despite playing with ten men for a large part of the game, Racing were able to scalp Sevilla at El Sardinero
A goal from Christian Fernandez and an own goal from Ivan Rakitic put Racing in the lead, but a 40th minute header from Federico Fazio and a Fabiano penalty were enough to put the game level again. Manuel Arana popped up with a long range effort in injury time to hand Racing the win.
Racing opened the scoring in the 12th minute after a Pinillo corner was converted by Fernandez.
Sevilla earned a penalty in the 17th minute, which Alvaro Negredo failed to convert, and things went from bad to worse for the Andalucians as Ivan Rakitic put the ball into his own net two minutes later.
Pinillo found himself on the recieving end of a red card in the 39th minute, and just a minute later, Sevilla reduced their deficit through a Fazio header, assisted by Rakitic, who obviously had something to prove.
In the 83rd minute, Sevilla earned a penalty, and Fabiano made no mistake in scoring the goal which looked certain to settle the tie, but Manuel Arana scored a long range goal in injury time and Santander took all three points.
The win puts Racing in 12th place, a mere 4 points from relegation, whilst Sevilla's champions league aspirations have taken a serious knock, and they now sit 14 points from 4th placed Villarreal.
