Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Atletico Madrid win the Europa League for the third time in the history of the competition. It's their second Europa League crown under the management of Diego Simeone. Antoine Griezmann put on a show this evening to deliver the victory, scoring twice to dispatch Marseille. Gabi got the other to secure the victory as the Spanish side were more clinical than their French counterparts. It could have been a different story had Valere Germain found the net in the early stages. However, once Griezmann put Atletico in front, the game was in their control and they were able to triumph with relative ease.

46' We're back underway in the Europa League final.
Atletico Madrid lead 1-0 at the break in the Europa League final against Marseille. Antoine Griezmann's strike separates the two sides as Andre-Frank Zambo-Aguissa's mistake allowed Gabi to release the Frenchman, who slotted his effort into the bottom corner. The French outfit should have been ahead in the early stages when Dimitri Payet played in Valere Germain, only for the striker to place his shot over the bar. Those have been the two defining moments of the first half, although Rudi Garcia's men were also dealt a massive blow when Payet was forced off with an injury. The French outfit need a response in the second period.

39' OVER! Koke swings the ball into the box from the right and Godin guides an effort towards goal, only to send it well over the bar.
J. Amavi
Yellow Card
Olympique Marseille
38' Amavi is booked for the challenge on Vrsaljko.
37' Vrsaljko and Amavi collide down the flank right in the corner, which leaves the Atletico man in a heap on the deck. The referee awards a free-kick to the Spanish side.
36' Gabi swings the resulting free-kick into the box, but Godin is caught offside by the French side's high defensive line.
35' Marseille are losing the 50/50 battles now as Gabi goes down under pressure from Sanson. The one mistake from Zambo-Anguissa has changed the match completely.
M. Lopez
D. Payet
Olympique Marseille
32' Lopez replaces Payet, which could see Sanson move further forward.
31' A hammer blow for Marseille as Payet is going to be forced off with an apparent injury. He's in tears as he makes his way to the sideline. Payet is consoled by his team-mates and Garcia as he heads off. Concerning for Marseille and even France ahead of the World Cup.
28' Mandanda takes a chance at the back as he takes his time over his clearance. Griezmann applies pressure, but the keeper clears his lines before the forward can make the block.
26' Thauvin has another raid down the right flank and once again he looks for the late run of Ocampos. Oblak comes off his line to make the catch ahead of the Argentine. Safe hands from Atletico's keeper.

Goal
Atlético Madrid
21' GOALLLLLLLLL!!!! GRIEZMANN FIRES ATLETICO AHEAD!! A nightmare for Zambo-Anguissa as he fails to control Mandanda's pass out from the back. Gabi seizes on his error and releases Griezmann, who bursts into the box. The Frenchman only has Mandanda to beat and he keeps his composure to slot his effort into the bottom corner, leaving the Marseille keeper with no chance.
20' Thauvin cuts inside from the right flank and arcs a cross towards the back post, looking for the run of Ocampos. However, it sails over the head of the Argentine and into the hands of Oblak.
18' Germain flicks the ball into the path of Payet 20 yards from goal. The Frenchman goes for an ambitious first-time strike, but he fails to connect with his effort on the outside of his right foot.

12' Sarr latches on to Ocampos' pull back 25 yards from goal and goes for the drive from distance, but he drags his effort wide of the post.
11' It has been an encouraging start from the French side, who are moving the ball with confidence around the pitch.
9' Costa and Rami endure a battle in the Marseille half, which results in Garcia's men winning a free-kick. Don't expect that to be the last of Costa being involved in tussle this evening.
8' Ocampos tries to get behind Correa down the left flank and he gets brought down by the Atletico winger. The French outfit are winning the early battles on the pitch.
6' WIDE! Atletico clear the first cross into the box, but the ball hangs on the edge. Rami turns and swings a leg at a strike on the half-volley, which sails narrowly wide of the post.
5' Sarr goes down on the right flank under Koke's challenge and it hands Payet a chance to whip a cross into the box.
4' CHANCE! Marseille should be ahead! Thauvin and Payet combine in the final third, with the latter releasing Germain through on goal in the box. Germain only has Oblak to beat, but he spurns the opening, lifting his strike over the bar. That was a glorious opener for the French side.
2' Costa looks to latch on to a long ball forward, but Mandanda gets across to gather ahead of the Atletico forward.
1' Marseille boot the ball into the corner from the kick-off to get themselves into Atletico territory immediately.
1' We're underway in the Europa League final.
The players are out on the pitch, so the Europa League final should be underway shortly.
Tonight is Torres' final match for Atletico. The 34-year-old starts from the bench. It would be poignant for him to make an impact as a substitute for his boyhood club.
STAT! Marseille have won just four of their 15 games against Spanish teams in European competition (D3 L8) - half of those victories have come in the last two games, however, beating Athletic Club in both legs of the last 16 this season.
STAT! Of the six previous occasions that a Spanish team has reached the Europa League final, only one of them has not gone on to win – however, that came in 2011/12 when Athletic Club were beaten by fellow Spanish side Atletico (0-3).
The French side have not won the Europa League, but do have a Champions League title to their name in the 1992/93 season when they defeated AC Milan. Marseille have twice reached the final of the competition when it was known as the UEFA Cup, but were beaten by Parma in 1999 and Valencia in 2004.
Atletico are looking to win the competition for a third time. They have won the tournament twice since it was reformed into the Europa League. Los Rojiblancos defeated Fulham in the final in the 2009/10 season, while they defeated Athletic Bilbao in the 2011/12 campaign - with Simeone in charge.
STAT! Marseille are aiming to be the first French team to win a major European competition since 1995/96, when PSG beat SK Rapid Wien in the Cup Winner’s Cup.
Atletico are sitting second in LaLiga, three points clear of Real Madrid in third. Simeone's men still need a point against Eibar to secure second spot behind Barcelona, which will be important for the club to finish above their rivals.
Garcia's men are currently third in Ligue 1 after their 3-3 draw against Guingamp, one point off the pace of Lyon in the final Champions League spot. Marseille have one match remaining in their league season against Amiens on the final day and still could finish in the top three, securing a place in Europe's elite competition even without winning the trophy this evening.
Both sides still have plenty to play for in their domestic leagues as well as the final this evening. Marseille are in greater need of the automatic Champions League place, but Atletico will be keen to enjoy success on the continent after missing out on the LaLiga crown.
Simeone has made three changes to his side from their last outing against Getafe in LaLiga at the weekend. Vrsaljko is preferred to Juanfran after returning from suspension, while Gimenez and Correa get the nod ahead of Partey and Savic.
Marseille have made four changes from their draw against Guingamp at the weekend. Payet, Rami, Guztavo and Sarr come into the side, with Sakai, Kamara and Lopez dropping to the bench.
Mandanda missed the two legs of the semi-final against Salzburg, but has regained his place in the side in Ligue 1 ahead of Pele. Rudi Garcia puts faith in the keeper, despite his dismissal last time out against Guingamp in Marseille's 3-3 draw.
Atletico subs: Filipe Luis, Thomas Partey, Fernando Torres, Stefan Savic, Juanfran, Kevin Gameiro, Axel Werner.
ATLETICO (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Sime Vrsaljko, Jose Gimenez, Diego Godin, Lucas Hernandez; Angel Correa, Saul Niguez, Gabi, Koke; Diego Costa, Antoine Griezmann.
Marseille subs: Hiroki Sakai, Boubacar Kamara, Rolando, Kostas Mitroglou, Clinton N'Jie, Yohann Pele, Maxime Lopez.
MARSEILLE (4-2-3-1): Steve Mandanda; Bouna Sarr, Adil Rami, Luiz Gustavo, Jordan Amavi; Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Morgan Sansone; Florian Thauvin, Dimitri Payet, Lucas Ocampos; Valere Germain.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the French side.
Atletico put forward two stoic performances against Arsenal to advance. The odds were stacked against Diego Simeone's men after Sime Vrsaljko was sent off at the Emirates Stadium. However, they were able to earn a 1-1 draw on the night as Antoine Griezmann scored a vital away goal. Diego Costa scored the only goal of the game in the second leg as the Gunners ran into a brick wall in the Atletico defence. That will be the foundation of their attempts to win the crown this evening.
Marseille battled their way into the final, needing extra-time to defeat Red Bull Salzburg in the semi-finals. The club went into the second leg with a two-goal advantage, but the Austrian side rallied to take the game into an additional 30-minute period. The contest appeared to be heading towards penalties, but Rolando guided an effort home four minutes from time to send the French outfit through.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Europa League final between Marseille and Atletico Madrid at the Groupama Stadium.
