The Dutch were never really troubled by the European minnows and cruised to their biggest win ever following an impressive performance from the Arsenal manNetherlands have recorded their biggest win ever as they beat San Marino 11-0 to maintain their perfect record in the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign. Four goals from Robin van Persie, combined with two each for Wesley Sneijder, John Heitinga, Dirk Kuyt and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and one for Georginio Wijnaldum, helped Oranje to the full three points in Eindhoven.
The World Cup finalists started the match brilliantly and needed only seven minutes to break the deadlock. Mark van Bommel set up Robin van Persie with an intelligent pass and the Arsenal man volleyed home from close range.
San Marino were dealt another blow hardly six minutes later when Wesley Sneijder made it two for the hosts. The Inter playmaker went past his marker with a good individual action before curling a shot in the top corner from the edge of the area.
Things got only worse for the guests in the 17th minute when they failed to clear a corner. Dirk Kuyt sent in a cross for Johnny Heitinga and the centre-back headed home from inside the box.
Holland then lost focus a bit and allowed San Marino forward Andy Selva the chance to try his luck from long range, but his shot from 30 yards out went just wide.
The home side continued to dominate and created several chances, but the fans had to wait until after the interval for the fourth goal of the evening. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar delivered a superb cross for Kuyt and the Liverpool man tapped home from about five yards.
Huntelaar finally added his name to the score sheet minutes later with a calm finish after being set up by Sneijder and things would only get worse for San Marino in the remainder of the game. Van Persie doubled his personal tally in the 65th minute after Kuyt presented him with an unmissable chance and again Van Persie made it seven shortly after following Sneijder's assist.
San Marino were simply unable to stop the Dutch forwards after the break and Huntelaar got his second of the game in the 77th minute following a superb assist from Kevin Strootman before Van Persie added his fourth only minutes later. Sneijder then netted his second of the evening in the closing minutes of the game with a low shot in the far corner.
Georginio Wijnaldum then capped his debut with a goal as he fired home after being set up fellow substitute Hedwiges Maduro.
Netherlands have collected 21 points from seven games following tonight's victory and sit atop of the table in Group E of the Euro 2012 qualification campaign. Their next match is on September 6 away against Finland.
San Marino on the other hand sit rock bottom with zero points from eight games. They host Sweden next Tuesday in their penultimate game.
