IT IS OVER! Napoli came twice from behind to claim the three points! We saw seven goals, six in the second half, in one of the best games in this season's Serie A. Mauri opened the scoring in the first half and Dias made it two after the break. Napoli managed to fight back with goals from Andrea Dossena and Edison Cavani, but Lazio took the lead through an own goal by Salvatore Aronica, shortty after Christian Brocci had an England-Germany type goal disallowed. Giuseppe Biava was sent off and conceded a penalty, which Edison Cavani converted. Giuseppe Sculli was sent off right before full-time as Napoli claimed a famous victory today. Stay with us for our post-match materials. Do not forget to join us later today for our live coverage of Osasuna - Atletico Madrid. Bye, for now.
90' + 3'
Cavani is down after a challenge from Dias in the penalty box, but the referee does not blow his whistle.
90' + 2'
Yellow CardGiuseppe Sculli
90' + 2'
Yellow CardEdinson Cavani
90' + 1'
There will be three minutes of injury time.
Ugly scenes here as Cavani and Sculli get into an argument and both sets of players have to intervene. Cavani is shown a yellow card, and so is Sculli. SCULLI HAS BEEN SENT OFF AFTER PICKING UP HIS SECOND YELLOW CARD!
GOAL! NAPOLI TAKE THE LEAD! Cavani with the goal! The Uruguayan was released just outside the penalty area and with Muslera very, very poorly positioned, he lobbed the goalkeeper and the ball crawled past the goal line, despite Muslera getting a touch on it.
Yellow CardHugo Campagnaro
Cristiano Lucarelli is coming on for Hassan Yebda. The former Livorno and Parma man will be keen to score today.
Stendardo on. The defender has had his fair share of trouble with Lazio president Claudio Lotito. He even defended himself in court against the hard-headed president.
Penalty GoalEdinson Cavani
GOAL! Edison Cavani scores from the spot. The Uruguayan sent Muslera the wrong way and the ball nested in the right corner.
Red CardGiuseppe Biava
AND BIAVA IS SENT OFF, TOO! ... He certainly pushed Cavani, but this was no red-card offence. Not even a penalty worth one, too.
PENALTY! Cavani goes down under pressure from Biava!
CAVANI! Supernatural vision by Hamsik as he found Cavani with a precise pass on the right side of the box. The Uruguayan wasted not time, and swiftly send a finish, which was blocked by Dias.
Lazio are now trying to hold on to the result. They certainly deserve to take something out of this game.
Cavani is really trying to make things work for Napoli upfront, but to no avail.
Looking at the replays, I can safely say that this Brocchi shot crossed the line. Mistake by the referee, and this is likely to sparkle the heated debate about video technology.
Sculli is booked for a horrible, horrible challenge on Lavezzi. Not very gentlemanly from the ex-Genoa man.
Own GoalSalvatore Aronica
OWN GOAL! Aronica gives Lazio the lead! Mauro Zarate rocketed past Napoli's defence on the left wing before sending a nice cross from the left side of the box for Stefano Mauri. Salvatore Aronica had the final say, however, as he finished into his own net.
WAS THAT IN? Brocchi send a stunning finish which rebounded from the underside of the bar and it seemed to have crossed the line. England - Germany flashbacks here.
Double salvo by Napoli. Miraculous comeback by Napoli, and dreadful defending by Lazio.
GOAL! I am taking my words back! Napoli are back into this game! Lavezzi took a free-kick on the left and send a good ball in the penalty area, it reached Magio, who managed to head back from the byline for Cavani just outside the six-yard box and the Uruguayan headed past Nestor Muslera.
GOAL! Dossena out of all claws one back for Napoli! Lavezzi whipped in a free-kick from the right into the box, the ball ricocheted three times before fortunately reaching Dossena at the far post and the ex-Liverpool man slammed home. A mistake by Biava here as he allowed Dossena to contact with the ball.
Dias might lack pace at times, but he is an exceptional defender, actually one of the top three in Serie A in my humble opinion. Mazzarri reacts by substituting Pazienza for Giuseppe Mascara.
GOAL! DIAS SCORES! Andre Dias put the game out of Napoli's reach! Second goal of the season for the defender! Garrido whipped in a superb cross from a free-kick on the right and Andre Dias flicked in magnificently from just outside the six-yard box.
Zarate gets dizzy from dribbling, twists around his left foot and falls on the ground, demanding a foul. This would not win him an Oscar.
Lavezzi take too much time to cross and naturally sees his pass blocked by Lichtsteiner for a corner on the left. Too much hesitancy from both sides today.
Another good cross from Napoli wasted. Cavani ran down the right and whipped in a good ball, but Lavezzi was poorly positioned and could not tap in. If the two had swapped positions, this would have been a goal for sure.
Campagnaro gives the ball away deep in Napoli's half with a disastrous pass, but Gonzalez is dispossessed seconds later. The Uruguayan should have done better there.
The game resumes ...
45' + 1'
No injury time and the referee blows his whistle for the end of the first half. Lazio are in the lead thanks to a wonder goal by Stefano Mauri, while Napoli have failed to seriously threaten Nestor Muslera so far. The hosts will have to improve if they are to take anything away from this game. Join us after the break for the second period.
Pazienza seems to have injured himself as he is on the ground for no obvious reason.
Lavezzi runs like a man possessed on the left wing, and tries to square for Cavani from the byline, but the ball seems to have crossed the line. He is really fired up for this game.
Edoardo Reja will certainly be pleased that Lazio are leading, but would probably demand more ruthlessness in front of goal.
HAMSIK! Cavani ran down the left and whipped in a cross from the left side of the box, but it was just out of Hamsik's reach. That would have been a great equaliser.
Napoli are looking extremely bad at the back and are really vulnerable on the counter. Will Lazio take advantage?
ANOTHER MISS FOR LAZIO! Poor decision by Zarate as he should have gone for a shot right away! Cannavaro lost the ball to Sculli, the midfielder let it slide for Zarate, and instead of blasting a finish, Zarate kept looking at the assistant referee's flag and in the end was dispossessed.
Yellow CardAndrea Dossena
MAURI! The midfielder was released superbly by Brocchi on the right side of the box, but sends his looping finish left of the post! That was a much easier chance than the one he scored from.
Not taking anything away from Mauri, but even he was surprised he managed to make his way so easily into the penalty area. What Napoli's defence was doing is anyone's guess.
MAURI! Stunning goal by Stefano Mauri! The captain beats no less than four players on his way to the right side of the box before sending a wonderful finish into the left post and into the net!
Dias was booked three minutes ago after bringing down Campagnaro on the right wing. Moments later Cavani unfortunately flicked a goal-bound shot over the bar.
OH! Side netting! Cavani sent a great header from the right side of the box, but it only hit the side netting.
Yellow CardAndrè Dias
Just what did Hamsik do here? Lavezzi send an inviting cross from the left, but Hamsik headed in the wrong direction from six-yards out. In the following attack, Brocchi messed up as he slipped and handballed at the edge of the box as he was trying to make his way into the penalty area, instead of squaring for Mauro Zarate.
Interesting fact ... Mauro Zarate has never scored at the San Paolo. Could today be his lucky day?
Bresciano wins a corner for Lazio on the left. First corner of the game ... Taken by Sculli, but Campagnaro heads the ball away.
Well, that was poor by Edison Cavani! The Uruguayan was in a great position to volley from inside the penalty area semi-circle, but sent his finish way over the bar.
We have seen precious little from Mark Bresciano so far. The ex-Palermo man certainly has the skill and technique to dazzle.
Zarate goes for the spectacular with a volley from afar. The ball squeezes past two defenders, but is an easy catch for Morgan De Sanctis.
It seems like Lazio are trying not to concede early here, and so far they have done really well in defence.
Not much happening on the pitch and no real chances for either side so far.
Hamsik sends a bouncing shot from outside the penalty area, but it is deflected off Biava into the path of Cavani, whose subsequent cross in handled superbly by Muslera.
Sculli with a cross from the left for Zarate, but Aronica manages to head away to Hamsik.
Muslera with a great interception as he claims the ball just ahead of Hamsik in the six-yard box. Lavezzi was the man with the cross from the left for the Slovakian.
The game begins ...
Lazio: Muslera; Lichtsteiner, Biava, Dias, Garrido; Sculli, Brocchi, Mauri, Bresciano, Gonzalez; Zarate.
Napoli: De Sanctis; Campagnaro, Cannavaro, Aronica; Maggio, Pazienza, Yebda, Dossena; Hamsik; Lavezzi, Cavani.
