There was little he could do to keep Destro's effort out from close range. He was not tested too many times thereafter but was withdrawn at half-time.
M. De Sciglio
Allowed too much space in the channels and also struggled out wide. The combination of Dodo and Gervinho regularly stretched him.
His lack of pace was at times exposed when put one-on-one against an opponent, but he adjusted well positionally as the game wore on.
The Colombian was a solid force at the back, making a number of quality challenges to repel the likes of Gervinho and Destro. Scored Milan's first half equaliser.
The Brazilian had some bright moments with some impressive dribbling inside from the flanks. He picked out a number of impressive passes but failed to supply Balotelli with enough ammunition.
N. de Jong
Did his best to pick apart the play but was frequently left exposed by his team-mates, especially when Roma countered at pace.
Was extremely disappointing on the night as he flitted about the pitch but never saw enough of the ball to real make his mark on the game.
The left-back was tasked with offering his side much of their width due to the presence of both Montolivo and Kaka in the side. He did so to good effect.
Struggled to influence the game in midfield. His touch let him down a bit too often and he found it difficult to hold possession under pressure.
Worked hard in the Milan midfield and his desire to get forwarded was rewarded with his side's second goal.
Found service rather hard to come by throughout the night. Nevertheless, he did have a few good chances, particularly one to win it late in the game which he pulled wide.
M. De Sanctis
The keeper showed a strong pair of hands as he made a few good saves in the second half, particularly from a Balotelli free-kick.
Was impressive in the heart of the defence as he showed impressive strength to limit the impact of Balotelli.
Had a largely solid start to the game and helped keep things relatively tight. He picked up an injury towards the end of the first half and was replaced by Burdisso.
Looked to get forward whenever he could and he did put a few good crosses into the area. However, he often left too much space in behind him.
The left-back played very high up the pitch and proved dangerous in advanced areas. He regularly combined to great effect with Gervinho.
The Dutchman was imperious in the centre of midfield. His passing was first-rate and he kept an impressive supply going up to the strikers.
Provided the engine room in Roma's midfield as he closed the ball as early as possible when Milan were in possession.
D. De Rossi
Had an efficient game in the midfield. He was solid at the back and used his distribution to push his team forward from deep for a number of breaks.
The Ivorian was a constant threat to the Milan defence and his pace caused them no end of problems on the counterattack. Won the penalty which was converted for the second goal as he beat Gabriel to the ball.
Got his team off to a great start with a simple finish after 13 minutes. He was a bundle of energy up top and regularly made darting runs for his team-mates to pick him out.
The winger made some bright runs in the wide areas but they were few and far between. He struggled to create enough for his team-mates and was withdrawn late in the second half.
Came on for Leandro Castan at the end of the first half and continued where the Brazilian left off. He showed good composure and cleared a dangerous De Sciglio cross in the second half.
Brought on for Ljajic late in the second half.
Replaced Destro in the 64th minute and helped create some decent opporutnities for his side.
