FULL TIME!!! Well, a confident and professional performance from United has been marred by a controversial incident over the second goal for United awarded by Mark Clattenberg despite a handball from Nani. The Portugeuse winner grabbed the second after Vidic's super header gave United the lead. Thanks for following tonight, have a great evening!
90' + 3'
Ball being played about by both midfields......waiting for fulltime.
90' + 1'
OOOOOOOH! Almost a BRILLIANT goal from Nani! Cutting inside from the right flank and firing a brilliant strike which rebounds off the top of the crossbar! Gomes was absolutely stranded! Brilliant!
Well the game is all over now, United are controlling things and Spurs frankly look totally demoralised. Four minutes injury time here.
Nani almost scores again, breaking onto Fletcher's throughpass but his shot is deflected off Kaboul and behind for a corner.
Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez
Yellow Card Luka Modric
Spurs are livid, especially as the replays show that in the incident where Spurs felt there was a freekick, Nani handled the ball.
Well this is frankly ridiculous! Spurs believed there was a freekick given, and Gomes rolled the ball out to take it. However the referee didn't blow, and thus Nani nipped in to strike the ball into an empty net. The referee thus overruled the linesman who believed it was a foul. Farcical, but it's 2-0 United and that's all that matters.
Potentially a real moment of controversy as the goal is given!!! 2-0 United, the referee has overruled the linesman!
GOAL FOR UNITED!! OR...........NOT!!! Nani breaks the offside line and fires past Gomes, but the linesman is flagging........let's see what happens.
Bale, on the right side this time, whips a cross into the United box. Vidic rises unchallenged to clear.
Spurs trying to muster a head of steam, but United are defending excellently. Ferdinand and Vidic have hardly put a foot wrong today.
United break down the other end, working the ball through midfield. Scholes eventually delivers a cross deep to the far post, but just a touch ahead of the arriving Brown.
Slight moment of concern for United as the ball breaks for Modric on the edge of the box, but he slips at the vital moment and Brown nips in to clear.
Rafael van der Vaart
More excellent passing football from United. Spurs look helpless as the time ticks on towards full time. United are playing this so professionally.
Real moment of concern for Spurs fans as Van der Vaart goes down. Doesn't look like a collision, but he's holding his hamstring. Looks like Crouch is coming on.
Van der Vaart whips the corner in, but Brown rises highest to head clear!
OOOOOOOH! Out of nowhere Pavlyuchenko hits an effort goalwards from 40 yards out which deflects off Vidic and behind for a corner.
All United again, they're playing some lovely stuff now. Fletcher, Carrick and Scholes are pinging some great 30 yard passes around. Really dominating possession. Spurs can't get near them.
Nani fires a left-footed effort well wide from 30 yards out. In fairness he was well closed down by Kaboul.
OOOOOOH! Pavlyuchenko comes close this time, receiving the ball from Lennon on the edge of the United box, he spins quickly-knocking Vidic slightly off balance-and fires a stinging shot into the sidenetting of Van der Sar's goal.
OOH! Brilliant movement from Hernandez, as he holds his run to stay onside behind the Spurs defence. He receives a lovely reverse pass from Nani, but he hits a tame shot at Gomes who saves.
Spurs are struggling to make an impact here. Van der Vaart's cross into the box is met unchallenged by Evra who clears comfortably.
Another change for Spurs as Palacios comes on for Jenas.
Nani steps up..............and fires the freekick straight at Gomes.
Double change for United. Berbatov off for Scholes, and Brown on for Rafael.
All United now, this time Spurs fail to clear and the ball comes to Evra. The Frenchman charges towards the area, and cuts inside Jenas who fouls him in a decent position for United.
Pavluychenko on for the hard-working Keane for Spurs.
More excellent possession football from United after Park's determination wins the ball off Hutton. But Nani's attempted throughball finds Berbatov off-side.
OOOOOOOOOOH! Super run from Gareth Bale! He picks up possession in the centre of the field, and runs on a diagonal from left to right towards the United box-leaving the midfield in his wake. He then pushes the ball past Vidic, and fires a shot in with his weaker right foot which goes wide of the far post!
Naughty challenge from Hutton on Hernandez is penalised, and he's slightly fortunate to escape without a caution.
Van der Vaart wins possession in the United half, he feeds Jenas who bursts forward. As he approaches the box, he rolls it back to the Dutchmen across the edge of the area, but it's a touch overhit and he can't claim and United clear.
Neat interplay involving Hernandez, Fletcher and Nani sees the Portugeuse fire a left-footed curler towards goal which Gomes claims easily.
Berbatov attempts an audacious overhead flick over his head to Hernandez. Never looks close to coming off and Gomes claims with ease. Been a quiet day for the Bulgarian.
Gomes is called into action, rushing out to claim the ball ahead of Chicarito after Berbatov's flick on almost puts the Mexican behind the defence.
Looks like Gallas is limping heavily for Spurs. Bassong is getting ready to come on.
Great play from Kaboul this time, who nutmegs Nani on the halfway line and then carries the ball 40 yards. He feeds Bale, whose cross is much better this time, but Vidic rises highest to head it clear.
Modric does brilliantly to spin past Fletcher midway through the United half, he carries the ball 30 yards before feeding Bale, whose low cross is disappointing and United clear.
Almost a brilliant start to the second half from United!! Hernandez brings the ball down on the edge of the box, he feeds Park who returns the ball to the Mexican on the left edge of the six yard box but he drags his shot disappointingly wide.
We're off for the second half. No changes from either team.
45' + 2'
HALF TIME! Well United lead after Vidic's super header, and really it's been quite a lively and even first half at Old Trafford thus far. Back in fifteen for the second half!
45' + 1'
Park picked up a slight knock in the clearing of that freekick, but he looks ok after the physio comes on.
Van der Vaart whips it in, but it is cleared by Vidic and then runs out to Rafael who hits the ball off Lennon and United have a throw-in.
Needless foul from Carrick on Bale as the Welshman burst past him, concedes a freekick in a dangerous position.
Park, cutting inside from the left wing, finds plenty of space and bursts past Jenas challenge. As he approaches the box, he feeds Berbatov on the left side of the six yard box and his low shot is saved by Gomes.
Spurs are still enjoying decent spells of possession, this time Modric feeds Bale on the left wing. He finds Jenas breaking towards the United box but his shot is pulled well wide.
Bale works a yard down the left side, but his low cross finds no-one in the United box and Ferdinand clears. Not been the Welshman's finest half thus far.
Javier Hernandez almost nips in behind the Tottenham defence, but Kaboul nips in ahead of the Mexican to clear. Bit of a sloppy pass to him from Carrick though.
Berbatov finds some space in the Tottenham half, but his shot is wide.
OOOOOOOOH! Super save from Van der Sar!!!! Spurs' corner is not cleared, it runs to Modric on the edge of the box. He brings it down on his chest and hits a first time strike, which is superbly tipped out by Van der Sar! Great stuff from the 40 year old!!
Van der Vaart finds some space on the edge of the box, but he drags his shot wide of the United goal. Keane runs to retrieve, and eventually his cross is put behind for a corner.
United are sitting a touch deeper now as Spurs are committing men forward. Berbatov almost slips Hernandez in behind, but Spurs are still enjoying a decent spell of possession.
Spurs are pressing forward and trying to get back into this match as Bale beats Rafael. But his ball into the box is cleared by Vidic.
Goal Nemanja Vidic
Yellow Card Younes Kaboul
Vidic scores!! Nani's delivery from the free-kick is a low skimming delivery which is met well by Vidic, who beats Assou-Ekotto easily, and leaves Gomes with no chance! 1-0 United!
GOAL!!! UNITED SCORE!!! VIDIC SCORES!!!
After the action-packed beginning, this game has settled into a quiet encounter. Though Kaboul's sliding challenge on Hernandez gets the United fans out of their seat and the Frenchman into the refs book.
The lack of holding midfielders means that both teams are having excellent spells of possession. Also means extra space for Van der Vaart which he finds, but he can't shift the ball onto his strong foot and Vidic blocks the weak shot.
United starting to look a little frustrated, as Nani brings down Assou-Ekotto after being tackled. He's busy shaking his head in annoyance.
Great play from Spurs as Keane plays a quick interchange with Lennon. He then rolls the ball to Modric who feeds him again, but quick work from Ferdinand puts it behind for a corner which is then cleared.
Van der Vaart lifts the corner in, but Kaboul rising highest can only head it over. United players are still livid it wasn't a goalkick.
OOH! Bale bursts past Ferdinand on the goal-line, though the ball looks out. But the linesman doesn't give it, and Bale's effort is tipped behind by Van der Sar for a corner.
Lovely flick from Nani, cuts out two Spurs defenders, as he finds Carrick on the edge of the box. He fires a half volley at goal, but Gomes spills and then claims before Chicarito can nip in to score.
Rafael breaks past Bale and gets close to the Spurs box but his shot is dragged wide of Gomes' goal.
Yellow Card William Gallas
Neither team really dominant here, but Gallas is booked after fouling Hernandez from behind on the edge of the United half.
United win a freekick in the Tottenham half after Jenas fouls Berbatov, but Carrick wastes the delivery and Spurs clear.
Neat play from Nani as he runs across the Spurs half, he then feeds Berbatov on the edge of the box. He has his back to goal, but turns a neat pass onto Park in the area. He cuts onto his weaker left foot past Assou-Ekotto but can only drag his shot wide of Gomes' net.
Game settling into a neat, though more sedate tempo. Think both team's are just testing each other out now after a fairly rampant start.
Spurs are starting to look threatening, Van der Vaart finds space on the edge of the United box and fires a shot but he drags it well wide.
SPURS HIT THE POST! WHAT A STRIKE FROM VAN DER VAART! Spurs play some neat football again. The ball reaches the Dutchman on the edge of the United box, he turns away from Carrick's weak challenge and fires a sumptuous effort which rebounds off Van Der Sar's far post and out. Both team's hit the post and we're only 8 minutes in!
This Tottenham team are certainly built to attack, and they zip a string of passes together in midfield through Van Der Vaart, Modric and Keane but then Gallas-up from defence-is flagged offside as they try to find him. Certainly a lively start here.
Aaron Lennon bursts down the right wing, but is eventually blocked out by Vidic. The ball runs free and Fletcher stretches to knock it away from Van Der Vaart, but lands awkwardly on his ankle. Looks ok to continue.
United are looking dangerous already, Park and Nani are zipping the ball around nicely and are first to every second ball at the moment. Tottenham are struggling to break the shackles.
OOOOOOOH! PARK HITS THE POST! The South-Korean retrieves the ball in the Tottenham box and fires a shot against Gomes post, but it rebounds out to safety. Great start by the home team.
20 seconds in and Nani's down on the deck after a fair challenge from Assou-Ekotto.
We're underway at Old Trafford.
OOOH! Fletcher should do better! Nani mesmerises two or three Spurs defenders with some stepovers. He breaks into the box, then flicks a decent ball across the edge of the area which Chicarito feeds back to Fletcher on the outside of the box. On his weaker foot, Fletcher fires a tame effort which is saved easily by Gomes.
The team's are out at Old Trafford, and we'll be starting shortly.
Couple of key clashes to watch today will be Michael Carrick v Jermaine Jenas in central midfield, and Gareth Bale v Rafael on the wing.
Meanwhile Manchester United are still the only unbeaten side left in the Premier League despite sitting in third in the Premier League table. Despite the absence of Wayne Rooney, the Reds are spearheaded by their top scoring duo of Tottenham old-boy Dimitar Berbatov and the red-hot Javier Hernandez.
So Tottenham go to Old Trafford seeking their first victory their in 25 occasions. Their last victory was sealed by a Gary Lineker finish in December 1989.
Meanwhile Tottenham are lined up: Gomes, Hutton, Kaboul, Gallas, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Modric, Jenas, Bale, Van der Vaart, Keane. Subs: Cudicini, Pavlyuchenko, Palacios, Crouch, Bassong, Kranjcar, Sandro.
First up is the team news. Manchester United are lined up: Van der Sar, Rafael Da Silva, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Fletcher, Carrick, Park, Hernandez, Berbatov. Subs: Kuszczak, Brown, Smalling, Scholes, O'Shea, Obertan, Bebe.
