Spectator. England international had barely an effort on goal to deal with as Wigan's piecemeal attack produced a blank.
Belgian looked a little rusty on his return to action. Inexplicably pushed simple clearance to McCarthy in first-half and clattered late into Cleverley in the second. Booked.
Argentine handled Moses effectively and snapped in to deny replacement N'Zogbia. Was a passenger on the line as Alcaraz's second half effort bounced off the post he was guarding.
Kolo Toure's replacement will face much sterner tests in the coming weeks. Dealt comfortably with lone striker Rodallega. Pressurised Sammon in injury-time and forced striker to snap his shot wide of mark.
Deserved to just about stay on the pitch after he thundered into Cleverley in the first-half. With England management duo Franco Baldini and Stuart Pearce watching, the right-back spurned a chance to impress as he held back his runs from deep. Booked.
Wigan's lack of desire to push bodies forward made it an easy day at the office for Barry in the first half. Stumbled over delightful one-two with Silva. Felt Mancini in his ear in second as Wigan pushed but he failed to kick into higher gear. Booked.
Easy opening for the veteran midfielder as he ould have put his pipe and slippers on. Old legs look stuck in mud after the interval as Wigan finally kicked into life. This wasn't left unnoticed by Mancini.
The Spanish magician was at his exciting best again. Floated around the pitch causing problems for Wigan. Goal owed much to luck, however. Substituted for de Jong.
Laboured presence all afternoon. Didn't seem interested in the match and left the hard work to his team-mates.
After excellent goals in successive games, it wasn't to be for the Italian today. Looked dangerous but couldn't produce a finish to his play. Removed for Kolarov.
Dragged first half chance wide of Al Habsi's post after an excellent duck of the shoulder and dribble past Alcaraz. Made few other inroads into the Wigan defence as the weight of the City attack rested on Silva's shoulders. Taken off for Dzeko.
Ali Al Habsi
Usually impressive goalkeeper's handling was all over the place. Unconvincingly pushed away an early Balotelli shot. Somehow then late a weak Silva effort through his legs to open the scoring.
Dug in alongside Caldwell. Made several vital blocks and tackles on the edge of his own area. Was even prepared to run forward with the ball once it was won.
Early cross produced the best from Lescott. When asked to defend, failed to keep Balotelli quiet.
Not afraid to put his foot in. Kept Wigan reasonably firm in the middle, which was important as the full-backs struggled to contain their opposite numbers. Booked.
Baptism of fire for the Spaniard on his Premier League debut. Skinned by Silva too often. Hooked for man he replaced, Gohouri.
Attempted to dribble past his man in possession but never got close enough to Rodallega to offer vital support. One run inadvertently led to a chance when Kompany cleared into McCarthy's path. Substituted for N'Zogbia.
United loanee was welcomed to Eastlands by a crunching challenge from Richards. Was only memorable moment winger was involved in as he struggled to get into the match. Martinez would have expected more after his impressive form before Christmas.
Seemed still to be dazed by Wayne Rooney's elbow. The 20-year-old was a big disappointment as he flopped against the Blues. Spurned present from Kompany in the first-half when excellently placed. Didn't push on enough to make difference.
Dominant present in last weekend's defeat to Manchester United but was invisible against their neighbours. Laboured in possession and toothless off it. Taken off for Sammon.
Did little wrong at the base of the Wigan midfield. Helped to bottleneck City's attack in the middle and moved the ball conservatively - but accurately, Wigan's shortcomings came in other areas.
Had no hope of unsettling City's centre-backs as he was often left more than 20-metres away from his nearest team-mate. Badly let down by lack of support.
- 12 S. Taylor
- 38 D. Boyata
Thrown on in the 68th minute as the game started to fall out of City's grasp. Produced several wayward crosses.
- 17 J. Boateng
N. de Jong
Made welcome return from injury in the 83rd minute. Tried to get stuck in and ensure City got the victory their performance didn't deserve.
Came on in the 86th minute and barely got a kick as Wigan pushed in vain for a leveller.
- 27 Jô
- 12 M. Pollitt
Introduced to fray in the 69th minute. Often more solid defence than man who took his starting place, Lopez.
- 6 H. Thomas
- 14 Jordi Gómez
Brought on in the 60th minute. Asked more questions of Zabaleta than Moses.
Lively debut for the Irish striker after he was thrown on in the 84th minute. Helped set-up Rodallega for one effort and then agonisingly screwed a shot wide when well placed deep into injury-time.
