A very easy afternoon for the England keeper who didn’t have a save to make until the final minutes when he expertly tipped a long-range effort onto the post.
Didn’t have to worry about the threat of Jerome down the Stoke left as the visitors struggled to make much of an impression on the proceedings. His attacking movement was rewarded in the closing minutes of the first half as he pounced on a loose ball to fire into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
Back in the starting line-up for the first time in a month and handled the game well, was strong in the air against Jones when he needed to be and looked comfortable alongside Kompany.
Comfortable and rarely troubled by the isolated Jones. Made good tackles when he needed to and showed good skill to bring the ball out of defence.
Walters gave him a few problems to deal with but he handled them easily and nullified the danger from the Irish forward. Made some surging runs forward down the left but his crossing was not accurate enough.
Had a lot of success down the City right, stretched the Stoke defence and caused Wilkinson plenty of problems.
Starting to look more like the player we saw last season, always looking for the ball and moving with such grace with the ball at his feet. His interplay with Aguero was excellent and he was the catalyst in lots of City's good play. He was replaced by Sinclair late on.
Final league before heading to the African Cup of Nations and he strolled through the game. He played excellent passes, found gaps that shouldn't be found and could have created a couple of goals had his team mates taken their chances.
Looked very good in the middle of the pitch, he dictated the play well and delivered some excellent through balls into Aguero that the Argentine was not able to convert. He always keeps the ball moving and makes himself available for the ball which is a real asset to his side.
He was full of running throughout and could have had his name on the score sheet more than once, however he had to make do with a penalty in the second half. His afternoon ended early as he was replaced by Tevez in the 77th minute with a hamstring problem.
Led the line well, battled against the strong central defensive partnership of Huth and Shawcross. Easy goal in the second half as he tapped home from two yards after Begovic had spilled Aguero’s shot.
Made good early saves from Aguero to keep his side in the game but has to blamed for both City goals. He decided to block Milner’s cross in the lead up to the first goal with his foot which saw the ball drop to Zabaleta, and he spilled Aguero’s shot for the second which allowed Dzeko to score.
Battled hard against the lively performance of Milner, won some challenges but also wasn’t close enough at times which enabled the winger to fire some dangerous low crosses into the penalty area.
Organises the Stoke defence well and he needed to given the constant pressure from the City attacks. He made sure he was in the right place at the right time to intercept low crosses and rose majestically to clear.
Tough afternoon against Silva, coped fairly well but wasn’t able to stop the Spaniard playing some dangerous balls into the penalty area.
Challenged for every ball put into his penalty area, worked well with Shawcross to stifle the City attack but couldn’t keep them at bay.
Tried his best to support Jones in attacking positions but he had to spend the majority of the game chasing the ball as City zipped the ball about in midfield. When he did get the ball his passing really let him down and all too often he gave the ball away much to the frustration of his manager and team mates. Was replaced by Whitehead in the second half.
The Frenchman battled in the midfield tirelessly but it was a thankless task as his side were regularly out-passed. He did make some crucial tackles to deny City opportunities in dangerous positions but he was not able to push his side forward as he normally does
It was an afternoon of chasing the ball and closing down the City midfield for the Irishman who will no doubt need to rest his legs tonight. He worked hard to keep his side in the game but the speed at which Manchester City play made it very difficult.
He may have scored a wonder goal against Southampton but today his sights of goal were few and far between and he spent the majority of the game inside his own half supporting Wilkinson. He moved to a more central position in the second half after the withdrawal of Jones but suffered like his team mate had done previously.
A fairly quiet game for the forward, he worked hard down the right hand side with very little reward against Clichy. In fact like most of his team mates he was required in a defensive role more than attacking one throughout the game which limited his impact.
Has been in good form recently but today was not his finest performance in a Stoke shirt, however he was seriously isolated as the Potters struggled to create anything to test Hart in the City goal. His frustrating afternoon came to an end five minutes into the second half as he was replaced by Etherington.
