Thanks for joining me tonight. I hope you have enjoyed the action. Feel free to tweet your thoughts to me @RyanRyanBenson. Good night!
90' + 3'
FULL-TIME! Manchester City get the three points as they cruise to a 4-0 win at home to Newcastle. The hosts were impressive throughtout and never looked like dropping points.
90' + 1'
Three minutes of stoppage time are added as Negredo slices Clichy's cross well over with a volley.
Debuchy has had a poor match for Newcastle and he almost gifts City another goal as Nasri catches him in possession on the edge of the area and feeds Dzeko, but his shot is tame and straight at Krul.
Replays suggest the officials were wrong with that decision. Negredo was onside.
City think they have a fifth goal, but only for a moment! The corner is flicked on at the near post and Negredo taps the ball in after Krul parries the initial header, but he is ruled offside.
The impressive Fernandinho drills a pass from deep on the right towards the back post for Negredo. The striker brings the ball down but Debuchy puts it behind for a corner.
Newcastle have all their players back behind the ball now as they clearly just look to keep the score as low as possible. City on the other hand are playing at a stroll.
David Silva has run out of time tonight as he is replaced by fellow Spain international Alvaro Negredo. The former Sevilla man makes his competitive debut for the club.
We don't have long left now. This is quickly beginning to resemble a defence vs attack training session, and it is clear who is coming out on top. Newcastle will hope they can keep the score as low as possible.
Assist Pablo Zabaleta
Goal Samir Nasri
GOAL!!! Manchester City add a fourth goal! Zabaleta cuts inside by the halfway line and plays a pass forward to Dzeko. However, the frontman steps over the ball allowing Nasri to beat Debuchy to it and slot past the helpless Krul. Game over, if it wasn't already.
Silva tries to dictate play in the attacking third as he lifts a pass over the Newcastle defence for Dzeko, but it is slightly over-hit.
Kompany continues to clutch his groin and is replaced by Javi Garcia. Pellegrini will be desperate for that to not be anything serious.
Ameobi tries to exploit his pace down the left wing only for Kompany to race across and slide in powerfully. The Belgian puts the ball out of play, but he appears to have injured himself in the process.
Silva and Navas play some clever one-twos with one another, but eventually Fernandinho gets the ball and leaves them staring on as he charges towards the penalty area and shapes to shoot... But he loses the ball.
Pellegrini's side are enjoying themselves out there. Out come the intricate passing moves and the triangles. These final 23 minutes could be rather long for Newcastle.
Hatem Ben Arfa
With The match already lost for Newcastle, Pardew decides to withdraw Ben Arfa and introduce Sameobi [Sammy Ameobi]. Given the France international's injury history, that is probably a wise move.
Great opportunity for City as the ball is lofted over the Newcastle defence and into the penalty area. Zabaleta, Dzeko and Nasri all chase it down as the ball bounces up, but the Argentine misses it and Krul catches just in time.
But as before, the City corner creates precious little as Nasri comes on for Aguero.
City win themselves another corner as Yanga-Mbiwa pokes Zabaleta's long-range pass out of play.
Sissoko tries to create an opening as he chips a pass forward for Cisse, but the striker can do very little with it and Kompany cleans up.
Silva takes the out-swinging corner, but Newcastle hack it clear.
Navas is involved again, but this time he cleverly cuts a low cross back towards the edge of the area and Clichy hammers it at the goal, but Debuchy deflects it wide.
Good play by Navas as he explodes past the static Yanga-Mbiwa and delivers a brilliant cross into the danger area, but Coloccini gets it away just before Aguero can nod it in.
This has been comfortable for City and you can't see it getting much better for Newcastle. Three-nil down and a man short; can they stop this from getting embarrassing?
Silva nearly adds a fourth as he get beyond Coloccini and brings Lescott's long-ball down as it comes over his shoulder, but Krul saves the following shot.
Goal Yaya Touré
GOAL!!! Manchester City get a third goal to all but secure the three points. Aguero wins a free kick left of the centre just outside Newcastle's area. Yaya Toure steps up and curls a wonderful effort into the top corner.
Aguero collects Navas' cross as it becomes loose. He plays Silva into the area and the Spaniard chips the ball into the six-yard box for Dzeko, but Krul palms his header away.
Home fans less than impressed with the referee as Aguero receives a quick throw-in from Dzeko before playing the ball through Tiote's legs and getting bundled over by the midfielder. Nothing given, however.
Slow start to the second half as the City defenders enjoy a few touches of the ball.
Right, the players are back out on the pitch and City get the second half started.
45' + 5'
After playing a further two minutes of stoppage time after the initial three, referee Andre Marriner blows his whistle for half-time. City have been smashing and Newcastle have been... Well, outclassed.
45' + 4'
45' + 3'
Red Card Steven Taylor
45' + 3'
RED CARD! Taylor's left arm is having its 15 seconds of fame as it takes on a mind of its own and smacks Aguero around the back of the head.
45' + 1'
Penalty claims from City for the second time in the match as Aguero gets into the left side of the area, cuts on to right foot and hits a shot at Taylor. The ball does appear to hit the defender's arm, but it was in close to his body rather than out-stretched.
Tiote is given lots of room 30 yards from goal so he decides to shoot. Joe Hart gets down to his right and catches the ball, but at least it was an actual shot on target for Newcastle! Hooray! That's a mini victory there if there ever was one.
Unfortunately for Pardew Gutierrez cannot continue and Vurnon Anita replaces him.
More bad news for Newcastle. Gutierrez marches down Newcastle's left and holds off Zabaleta and Fernandinho for a moment, but after losing possession he pulls up clutching his hamstring.
Yellow Card Mathieu Debuchy
City are given a throw-in near the halfway line, but Debuchy is not impressed and he chucks the ball away like a sulking toddler. The right-back gets a yellow card.
The only way City could be more comfortable would be if they were relaxing on a sun lounger by the sea on their summer holiday, which, incidentally, it seems Newcastle are still doing.
Brilliant chance for City as Fernandinho pounces on a loose ball following Zabaleta's tackle on Sissoko. He slides a pass into the area for Dzeko who looks set to shoot but he slips over at the vital moment in rather comical fashion. It didn't look like there were any cartoon banana skins out there.
Navas stands over the resulting free kick in an advanced position on the left. He curls a fairly low delivery into the area, but it is slightly ahead of Dzeko & Co. Lovely cross.
Yellow Card Moussa Sissoko
A fourth yellow card in three minutes is given to Sissoko. Aguero's fancy footwork was too much for the Frenchman, so he resorts by kicking him over. Well, if you can't beat them...
Yellow Card Fernandinho
Fernandinho picks up a booking now as he just tries to prevent a Newcastle counterattack.
Yellow Card Edin Dzeko
Yellow Card Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa
Handbags by the corner flag as Dzeko gets around Yanga-Mbiwa, but the two engage in an on-the-ball tussle. The City man clearly isn't happy and the two begin to push each other about. Both receive yellow cards.
Those two are at it again. Silva surges through the centre this time and threads a pass into the area for Dzeko. The Bosnian retrieves it and tries to play a return pass for the midfielder, but he is crowded out.
Silva and Dzeko try to link up on the left, but Sissoko steps in and makes the interception just before the move threatened the Newcastle goal area.
Well, not yet anyway. Ben Arfa plays the corner into a good area, but City hook it clear with relative ease.
Ben Arfa does well to win a corner on the right side of attack. Will set-pieces be Newcastle's only way back into this contest?
After 24 minutes of City domination, Newcastle are looking to finally get a feel of the ball. They knock it around in their own half before advancing down the right.
Well, only a brave man - OR woman - would bet against the hosts now. They have been in total control and look very good value for this two-goal lead.
Assist Edin Dzeko
Goal Sergio Agüero
GOAL!!! City double their lead at the Etihad Stadium! Kompany brought the ball out of defence well before playing it into Dzeko. The forward flicked Kompany's pass into Aguero's path and the Argentine placed his shot across Krul, into the bottom corner.
Papiss Cisse has a lonely job out there tonight. He tries to make the most of a fairly ambitious pass from Gouffran but ends up being called offside. He responds by kicking the ball into the crowd.
City are trying to monopolise possession now. Fernandinho, Toure and Silva try to keep the ball amongst themselves, but the move ends as a final ball is misplaced.
Ben Arfa's free kick is poor as he pretty much hits the first man from the left. City clear the ball but it just ends up back with Krul.
Good play by Gutierrez as he makes something out of nothing down the left. After being played in towards Zabaleta, he plays the ball through his compatriot's legs and draws the foul. This is a good opportunity.
Huge penalty shout for the hosts! Dzeko slips a perfectly-timed pass in between Debuchy and Taylor for Toure who is sent tumbling to the ground by the French defender. However, the referee does not penalise the Newcastle man. He was lucky there.
Navas appears on the left flank but puts the ball out for a throw-in. The winger looks to have a relatively free role tonight, rather than being restricted to the right.
Visiting fans celebrate briefly as Gouffran finds the back of the net, but he was offside when collecting Ben Arfa's pass after a weaving run.
Newcastle will hope for a reply as soon as possible and they are seeing plenty of the ball, but City are looking solid towards the back.
That goal had really been coming. City have made a ferocious start here, but can they maintain this intensity throughout?
Goal David Silva
GOAL!!! Manchester City take the lead! David Silva sends Dzeko out to the left side of the penalty area. The Bosnian beats Debuchy too easily and although Krul is able to get a block on his cross, the ball falls kindly for Silva who nods it into the goal.
Newcastle are on the offensive now. Ben Arfa picks the ball up in a central position and heads for the City penalty area, but he decides to try his luck from range and send a shot over the bar.
Yaya Toure meets the corner with his head, but it goes comfortably wide of Krul's left-hand post.
More joy down the right for City. Again Navas picks out Zabaleta, but this time it is the right-back who crosses and Dzeko sees his shot tipped around the post.
Navas almost makes an instant impact as he crosses low into the area. Zabaleta scuffs his shot and it drops to Dzeko, but Krul gets a block in.
Encouraging spell of possession down the right for Newcastle as Sissoko, Debuchy and Ben Arfa combine in the attacking third, but City crowd them out.
Newcastle get the match started in Manchester.
The players are now out on the field and engaging in a minute of applause for former City goalkeper Bert Trautmann who passed away over the summer.
Not long until kick-off now. Eferemo thinks City's new signings could even see them challenging for the Champions League this season.
Manchester City seem to have captured the imagination of their fans once again following the signings of Stevan Jovetic, Negredo, Fernandinho and Navas, but how much of a difference do you think those players will make? Can they propel City to the title, or do you feel they have overpaid for them? Tweet me your thoughts: @RyanRyanBenson
There are no new faces in the Newcastle team, but the big talking point from their perspective is the absence of Yohan Cabaye. The France international was the subject of a reported £10 million bid from Arsenal earlier today, yet there have been no suggestions of an injury.
Pellegrini picks two debutants in his starting eleven as Fernandinho slots into the midfield alongside Yaya Toure following his arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk. Jesus Navas, an acquisition from Sevilla, starts on the right flank. Alvaro Negredo, who also signed from Sevilla, begins the match on the bench.
Newcastle's team is: Krul; Debuchy, Coloccini, Yanga-Mbiwa, Taylor; Tiote, Sissoko; Gutierrez, Ben Arfa; Gouffran, Cisse. SUBS: Elliot, Dummett, Anita, Marveaux, Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Shola Ameobi
Manuel Pellegrini's first competitive starting line-up for Man City is: Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy; Fernandinho, Toure; Navas, Silva; Dzeko, Aguero.SUBS: Pantilimon, Negredo, Milner, Kolarov, Garcia, Nasri, Rodwell
