FULL-TIME MANCHESTER CITY 1-0 CHELSEA. It's that man again, Carlos Tevez, who has been the difference between the two sides. The Argentine's well-taken run and finish after Ramires dwelled on the ball for far too long in midfield secures an important win for Roberto Mancini. Chelsea were not at their best today, mainly down to the rigid formation put out by City. Mancini's men stay fourth but are now four points behind Chelsea. Thanks for joining Goal.com today and be sure to stick around for all the best post-match reaction.

City are looking to waste a bit of time now. Milner takes the ball over to the corner flag on the right and holds off the challenge of Cole before drawing a foul. Chelsea manage to clear and break towards the edge of the hosts' area but Mancini's men finally get the ball away after claims for a Chelsea free-kick following Zabaleta's trip on Essien.
Yellow Card Alex
Ivanovic's long throw into the area isn't cleared far enough by Kompany and the ball falls to Malouda 25 yards out. The Frenchman drills a left-footed cross/shot towards goal and Anelka manages to flick the ball into the path of Sturridge unmarked in a good position, but he is called offside. Four minutes of added time at Eastlands...
Chelsea are putting a bit of pressure on the hosts now. Milner fires the ball out of play down in the left-back position as the Blues look for a late equaliser. Meanwhile, Jerome Boateng replaced Dedryck Boyata to make his first appearance for City.
The home support are on their feet and applauding their skipper as Tevez goes off to be replaced by Adebayor, who himself earns cheers from the City fans.
TEVEZ'S FREE-KICK CURLS WIDE! Terry gives away a free-kick on the edge of the his own area after climbing all over Tevez trying to win a header. The Argentine then steps up to take and curls the ball right-footed over the wall but a couple of yards wide of Cech's right-hand post.
Sturridge gives away possession far too cheaply just inside the City half. Tevez is then set on his way in the Chelsea half and looks to skip past Terry and Alex. He manages to jink onto his right foot past Terry but is brought to ground by Alex, who gets away with it and the referee doesn't even award a free-kick.
Another booking... this time it's shown to Ramires. The Brazilian bundles Yaya Toure down to ground on the halfway line and correctly picks up a booking. He is then immediately replaced by young midfielder Josh McEachran.
Assist Josh McEachran
Yellow Card Ramires
Malouda plays the ball inadvertently off the heel of Anelka on the edge of the area and the ball breaks to Cole on the left side of the City box. The full-back races forward but can only smash a low left-footed strike against the side-netting.
Zhirkov looks to skip past Boyata down the left wing but is promptly brought to ground by a late challenge from the defender. Booking for the Belgian, and Chelsea are awarded a free-kick on the left side of the area. Alex rises above his marker but can only direct his header wide of the bottom right-hand corner.
Yellow Card D. Boyata
Essien is presented with another opportunity to shoot from range. However, the midfielder's right-footed strike flies over once again. Carlo Ancelotti makes a big call and opts to bring on Daniel Sturridge in the place of Didier Drogba, while Adam Johnson replaces David Silva for City.
Kompany goes on a long run up the pitch and finds Tevez on the right side of the area before continuing his run into the area. The Argentine's cross to the far post is claimed by Cech and the referee waves away protests for a penalty as Silva falls down under the challenge of Ivanovic. Meanwhile, Sturridge is ready to come on for the visitors against his former club.
STRIKE FROM ESSIEN! The Ghanaian lets fly from 30 yards with nobody closing him down. His fierce right-footed strike curls wide of the bottom right-hand corner, however, and City have a goal-kick. A rare shot in this game, but it was never going to trouble Hart from that distance in truth.
First change of the game goes to Chelsea. Yuri Zhirkov does come on and replaces Jon Obi Mikel. Looks like Essien will now play the holding role in midfield, with Ramires to his right and Zhirkov to his left.
John Obi Mikel
Great play from Yaya Toure! The big central midfield jinks his way into the Chelsea area with ease past Terry and Mikel but is quickly crowded out by Alex and Cole as he attempts to continue his run. Nevertheless, excellent bit of trickery from the Ivory Coast international.
Yellow card for Mikel. The Nigerian catches Tevez with a poorly-timed late challenge and picks up a deserved booking. The referee points to different areas of the pitch where Mikel has fouled players and City earn a free-kick, but it comes to nothing. Meanwhile, it looks like Yuri Zhirkov could be about to come on for Chelsea.
Yellow Card John Obi Mikel
Ramires tries to break into the City penalty area but is stopped in his tracks by Kompany, who puts in a terrific challenge to deny the Brazilian. Another strong tackle is then put in by another City player, Gareth Barry, and Ivanovic is down injured. He looks fine to continue though.
So, Tevez's remarkable record against Chelsea continues. He's now scored in each of his last five games against the Blues. You have to feel it's time for the visitors to make a change, but, as mentioned before, they don't have too many options on the bench.
GOAL!! TEVEZ SCORES THE OPENER!! Ramires is caught in possession just inside the City half and the hosts break with the ball. Tevez storms forward and Cole backs away from the Argentine. The City forward then continues his run from the halfway line all the way to the edge of the area and fires a right-footed strike into the bottom left-hand corner. 1-0 to City!
Assist Yaya Touré
Goal Carlos Tévez
Remember Adam Johnson is on the bench today, along with a number of other promising options for the hosts. Adebayor is there too, but Chelsea are short of experience, with youngsters Kakuta and Van Aanholt among the names on their bench.
SILVA WITH A CHANCE! Chelsea are slow in closing down De Jong 25 yards out and he slips a nice pass into the path of Silva on the left of the area. The Spaniard looks set to drill the ball across goal but tries to catch Cech out with a low left-footed strike towards the near post. Cech is equal to it though and parries the ball wide. Good effort from Silva.
Plenty of passes from Chelsea at the moment. There's a rare run forward from Mikel as he attempts to pick out Essien just inside the area, but Kompany is there to block and clear the danger.
Silva lays the ball off to Milner just inside his own half and continues his run down the left wing. He chases the return pass but can't latch onto it as Alex shepherds the ball out of play before receiving a kick to the back of his leg from the Spaniard!
Malouda draws a foul down in the Chelsea left-back position after showing excellent strenght to hold off the challenge of Boyata and Yaya Toure. The resulting free-kick sees Kolo Toure fire the ball out of play for a throw-in, which comes to nothing.
ANELKA FIRES JUST WIDE! The Frenchman picks up possesion 25 yards out and plays a neat one-two with Drogba. He then fires a fierce right-footed strike towards the bottom left-hand corner just wide. Hart gets a touch and Chelsea earn a corner, which Essien meets in the area but can only head over from close range. Should have done better really, the Ghanaian.
Chelsea kick us off for the second half. No changes from either side at the break.
45' + 1'
HALF-TIME. MANCHESTER CITY 0-0 CHELSEA. All square at the break. Very few chances in the first half, with Ivanovic's header against the crossbar the closest either side have come to opening the scoring. Drogba, Anelka, Malouda & Co. have failed to break down a rigid City defence, while Roberto Mancini's men have had a couple of counter-attacks broken down at the last minute. A poor first half in terms of chances, surely it can only get better?
Just the one minute of added time at Eastlands...
Anelka combines with Malouda on the edge of the City area before attempting to curl the ball towards Drogba at the far post, but the delivery is easily cut out. The hosts then break down the other end and Milner has his cross easily claimed by Cech. It's then Chelsea's turn again to launch an attack and the ball breaks to the unmarked Essien on the edge of the area, but he can only fire over to bring a close to the end-to-end moves.
Yaya Toure finds the unmarked James Milner on the left with a superb pass. The winger then has his right-footed cross headed clear before receiving the ball on the left again moments later. He cuts onto his left foot on the left side of the Chelsea area and drills the ball across the face of goal looking for Yaya Toure, but Terry is there to put in a great block and the ball then ricochets back off Milner and goes out of play for a goal-kick.
Drogba looks to race onto a through ball downfield just inside the City penalty area. He doesn't have much chance of reaching it with a number of light blue shirts back, but is barged over by young Boyata! Strong challenge from the defender and Drogba was well an truly stopped in his tracks!
Chelsea concede a free-kick down in their right-back position, much to the frustration of Didier Drogba who pleads with the referee. He's having none of it though, and Silva's poor delivery is easily headed clear in any case.
First yellow card of the game. Ivanovic races forward down the right and is hacked down by the tough-tackling Pablo Zabaleta. The left-back quite rightly picks up a booking, even if Ivanovic did make the most of it.
Yellow Card Pablo Zabaleta
After a number of City passes, Zabaleta is found on the left side of the Chelsea area. The Argentine cuts the ball back left-footed looking to pick out Silva who arrives late in the penalty area. The winger fails to latch onto it, however, and Ancelotti's men clear the danger.
Best chance of the game so far has gone to Chelsea through Ivanovic's headers a few moments ago. The City defence have otherwise looked fairly strong. The inexperienced Boyata at right-back hasn't really been tested by Malouda and Cole down the right and that could be an area the visitors may look to exploit.
Tevez breaks with the ball inside the Chelsea half and looks to skip past Terry and Mikel. He manages to race past the former but is barged to ground by the latter. He knew what he was doing, Mikel, but he gets away without a booking.
CHELSEA HIT THE BAR!! Ramires earns a corner off Kolo Toure and Drogba passes the ball short to Malouda from the resulting set-piece. The Frenchman picks out the head of Alex who, from the far post, nods the ball down to Ivanovic who then heads against the bar. The ball comes back to the Serbia international but this time his header is weak and into the arms of Hart.
City earn the first corner of the game and Milner takes for the hosts. The England international curls the ball towards the near post from the right and finds the head of Kolo Toure who, after escaping his marker Malouda, flicks a weak header towards goal from 12 yards which is easily claimed by Cech. Not a strong header from the centre-back, but it was difficult considering the angle.
Milner holds the ball up down the left wing and finds the feet of Tevez 35 yards out. The Argentine then tries his luck from long range with an ambitious right-footed strike, but his weak effort is easily cut out by Terry on the edge of his own area and Chelsea get the ball clear.
Half-chance for Essien. Yaya Toure is caught 30 yards out with his back to his own goal. Mikel intercepts well before Ramires picks up possession and lays the ball off to Essien to his right. The Ghanaian waits to move the ball onto his right foot but can only fire his low shot wide of the bottom left-hand corner.
Great bit of skill from Mikel. The defensive midfielder looks to have dwelled on the ball for too long just inside the City half as Tevez tries to intercept. However, the big Nigerian waits until the final moment and turns past his man with ease. Meanwhile, Anelka sees his right-footed snapshot from the edge of the area sail well wide of Hart's left-hand post.
Chance for Manchester City... Following Boyata's right-wing cross, the ball is only scrambled clear as far as the edge of the area from Chelsea. Milner eventually receives possession 25 yards out but his shot is charged down and the move breaks down.
Carlo Ancelotti said before the game that this was Chelsea's 'biggest test' so far this season. We're only 16 minutes in but that's proving to be the case. Manchester City's rigid 4-3-3 formation is preventing the visitors from exploiting any gaps in the final third, with Yaya Toure, De Jong and Barry holding firm in the centre of midfield.
Anelka wins a flick on around 50 yards out and finds Drogba just ahead of him. The Ivorian then somehow manages to deflect the ball Fabregas-style towards goal from Kompany's clearance, but the ball flies over this time.
Cole, Malouda and Anelka combine down the left wing before the latter swings an inviting right-footed cross towards the far post. Drogba manages to take the ball down but Kompany is there to put in a good block before clearing the danger.
...Milner's right-footed inswinging free-kick is curled in towards the far post, but none of the four City players attacking the ball can get a touch and it's deflected out of play.
De Jong puts in a strong challenge just inside his own half and plays a rare adventurous through ball looking for the run of Tevez. The isolated Argentine outpaces Alex but the big centre-back narrows the angle enough to see the 25-yard right-footed strike squirm wide of the goal. City then launch another attack and Ivanovic pulls Zabaleta down to ground on the left side of the Chelsea area. Good opportunity to deliver...
Zabaleta gets forward down the left and attempts to link up with Milner. Ivanovic is there again, however, and barges the ball out of play. Meanwhile, looks like the football isn't quite up to scratch. Petr Cech is set to take a goal-kick but the referee prevents him from doing so and insists on the ball being changed.
David Silva looks to set an attack going with a lovely left-footed chip over the Chelsea defence towards the onrushing James Milner on the left. However, Ivanovic manages to race back, hold off the challenge of Milner and earn a free-kick down by the corner flag. Good defending from the right-back.
John Terry gets his first touch of the game after receiving the ball from Mikel. The Chelsea skipper is promptly booed by the home support. No Wayne Bridge today remember, he still hasn't recovered from injury so it's Boyata at right-back and Zabaleta at left-back.
Manchester City get us underway at Eastlands.
Chelsea line up: Cech; Ivanovic, Alex, Terry, Cole; Essien, Mikel, Ramires; Anelka, Drogba, Malouda. Subs: Turnbull, Ferreira, Van Aanholt, Zhirkov, McEachren, Kakuta, Sturridge.
Manchester City line up: Hart; Boyata, K Toure, Kompany, Zabaleta; Y Toure, De Jong, Barry; Silva, Tevez, Milner. Subs: Given, Boateng, Lescott, Vieira, A Johnson, Jo, Adebayor.
Carlo Ancelotti has stuck to his word after naming his starting XI yesterday. The Italian is without Frank Lampard though, which means Ramires starts in his place alongside Michael Essien and Jon Obi Mikel in midfield.
Roberto Mancini has opted to hand Dedryck Boyata his first Premier League start of the season today in the absence of Wayne Bridge and Aleksandr Kolarov, which means Pablo Zabaleta could start at left-back. Elsewhere, David Silva is preferred to Adam Johnson in a three-pronged attack.
Today’s hosts managed to do the double over their opponents last season. Following their 2-1 win at Eastlands earlier in the campaign, they subjected Chelsea to a rare home defeat in February.
Manchester City have had an indifferent start to the season. After a creditable 0-0 draw away to Tottenham and an impressive win over Liverpool, they have since lost to Sunderland, drawn with Blackburn Rovers and beaten Wigan Athletic. Meanwhile, Chelsea are the league leaders and have won 12 of their last 13 league games, scoring 54 goals in the process.
