90' + 1'
FULL-TIME, and Manchester City secure their berth at Wembley thanks to this 5-0 win over Barnsley. The tempo was far slower than the first half, with the away side having some decent chances to grab a goal or two, but the hosts seemed to up the pace at will and scored two more, with Carlos Tevez completing his hat-trick and David Silva adding another. Then, the Citizens were happy to keep the ball and wind the clock down, safe in the knowledge that the win was theirs, and they will go into the hat for the semi-final draw tomorrow.
Huge cheers from the fans as Carlos Tevez is announced as man of the match. One minute will be added on.
Here's a stat for you: Manchester City have scored 14 goals in the FA Cup this season without reply. They're cruising now.
Oh! Substitute James Milner cuts inside onto his left foot and hammers in a shot that rattles the woodwork and bounces clear.
Barnsley have the ball for a little while but still find City's defence very tough to break down.
City are really running the clock down now, as they pass the ball around comfortably, clearly waiting for the final whistle.
Dzeko is offside again. He's been in the action today but not as effective as some of his team-mates.
Dzeko shoots again and sends it wide again. He's had plenty of chances in this game but just hasn't quite been able to put one away.
Superb ovation there for Tevez, who is replaced and given thunderous applause from the City faithful. He has been brilliant today.
Good ball there to Dzeko, but the Bosnian is offside.
When City have the ball, they are virtually at walking pace, obviously happy to be five goals up with their place at Wembley secure.
Things have definitely quietened down out there now, although Barnsley see another good passage of play come to nothing as a pass is over-hit.
Poor there from Razak, whose long-range shot is hopelessly wide of the mark.
GOAL!!! City up the tempo, Tevez and Silva play a one-two and there is the Spaniard to bury the ball after a rebound comes back to him in the box. That's Silva's final act as well, as he's replaced by Abdul Razak.
Wowzers. Vicious shot from Dzeko, but it goes well wide. It had all the pace but none of the direction, unfortunately.
Good ball there from Pablo Zabaleta to Tevez, but Crainie is there to clear into touch.
Chance! Tunnicliffe comes forward on the counter and forces a smart save from Pantilimon. The away side have had some decent chances already.
Great control there from Dzeko, who brings down a high ball and tries to lob Steele but can't quite get enough elevation on the shot.
Great shot there from Jacob Mellis, whose dipping effort from outside the area forces Costel Pantilimon into a decent save. Barnsley's best moment of the match so far.
The away side have definitely started the brighter in the second period but haven't been able to turn this possession into any chances.
That would have been a great first touch for substitute Jim O'Brien, but he sends his shot well wide.
Barnsley are looking to mix things up out there as they make a triple substitution while City bring on Scott Sinclair in place of Nasri. A flurry of changes out there.
GOAL!!! That's the hat-trick for Tevez! Nasri plays a great ball in with the outside of his foot and there is the Argentine to scuff home. He'll be walking off with the match ball later on.
Yellow CardRyan Tunnicliffe
Kolarov tries to clear the ball, but Tunnicliffe is adjudged to have slid in with a dangerous tackle and earns himself a booking. Replays show that was a harsh one.
Barnsley start brightly, but Kennedy puts a long ball straight out for a throw. They need a miracle out there now.
We're back already for the second half, which is kicked off by Barnsley.
45' + 2'
HALF-TIME, and it has been a thoroughly professional and superb display from Manchester City in what could have been a difficult FA Cup tie. They lead 3-0 thanks to a double from Carlos Tevez and another from Aleksandar Kolarov and have played some absolutely scintillating football as they look to have this game all-but sewn up already. Barnsley have been full of enthusiasm and have had a good go at their Premier League opponents, but have been completely outclassed by this slick City outfit. This tie is virtually sealed for the home side, although they may be slightly worried about Yaya Toure, who has already been booked for dissent and has had plenty to say to referee Anthony Taylor.
45' + 1'
Cywka comes forward and sends a shot well wide. His frustration is clear, but City have been outstanding in the opening period.
There'll be two minutes of additional time in this first half.
Then Chris Dagnall comes hustling forward and has Kelvin Etuhu free on his right, but there is Kolo Toure to tackle him brilliantly and win the ball back.
Another good chance there for City as a cross comes in that Dzeko can't quite get good contact on. Tevez was hovering as well.
An effort there for Barnsley finally, as Dagnall has a decent header that goes well wide of the City goal.
Dzeko has been pretty good in the first half as well as Tevez, as the Bosnian forces a good low save from Steele as he creates merry havoc in the box after a corner.
Great chance there. City string about 20 passes together and the ball makes its way to Tevez, who swivels brilliantly and fires a shot that Steele palms over the bar.
It must be a little infuriating for City fans at the same time, as their side look so comfortable here but were so totally abject against Southampton not so long ago.
Again, the home side are in complete control of the ball and are keeping it at will. This tie is virtually over already.
GOAL!!! That was too easy for City. Kolarov plays a great ball to Silva in the box, who reverses it superbly for Tevez, with the Argentine then spinning around brilliantly and passing it into the net. Great football, and the Premier League champions now lead 3-0.
Manchester City look in complete command out there now. They're content to just knock the ball about at the moment.
GOAL!!! It's 2-0!!! Tevez plays a superb square ball into the box and there is Kolarov at the back post to sweep it home. City looking comfortable now.
A long ball is played through to Nasri and the Frenchman is nearly in, but thankfully for Barnsley, Martin Crainie is there to just about clear to safety.
Yellow CardYaya Touré
Some respite here for Barnsley, as they force a free kick and Yaya Toure is booked for dissent as he vents his frustration.
You can't teach that. David Silva tries to keep a high ball in but can only hook it into his own face. Superb from the Spaniard.
Brilliant cross there from Kolarov and it finds Tevez at the back post, but his header goes over the bar. He'll have been disappointed not to hit the target with that one, but the home side look very good out there at the moment.
Great ball there from Tevez after good play with Yaya Toure, but Nasri is called offside as he bears down on the Barnsley goal.
Poor pass there from Tomasz Cywka, who tries to play Marlon Harewood in but puts too much on the ball as it goes out harmlessly.
It's all Manchester City out there, as Nasri's lob towards Tevez goes straight into Steele's gloves.
Then Tevez is on his back after a late challenge from Foster near the centre circle. He'll be OK, though.
GOAL!!! Manchester City lead 1-0!!! Yaya Toure loops a ball forward, David Silva's shot is tipped onto the post well by Luke Steele but Carlos Tevez is there to put away the rebound. Good goal there for the home side.
Chance! Nasri plays a great ball into the box but Dzeko heads over the bar from six yards out. That was slightly too high for him, but a good chance nonetheless.
Great defending there from Stephen Foster, who holds off Dzeko near his own penalty area and clears well.
The home side are already putting the pressure on, as a Samir Nasri cross forces a corner with Edin Dzeko lurking in the penalty area.
Great punch there from Luke Steele, who makes no mistake as Aleksandar Kolarov swings in a dangerous free kick.
Barnsley force an early corner after some good work from Chris Dagnall, but a shot from just outside the box from Ryan Tunnicliffe goes high and wide.
We’re off! Manchester City get the first half going.
Here come the teams onto the pitch at the Etihad Stadium, with the start of the game not far away.
Roberto Mancini makes six changes to the side that squeezed past Aston Villa on Monday night, with Costel Pantilimon starting in goal in place of Joe Hart and Carlos Tevez joining Edin Dzeko up front. Meanwhile, Barnsley make two changes from the team that drew with Burnley on Tuesday night, welcoming Ryan Tunnicliffe and Tomasz Cywka back into their side in place of Jacob Mellis and Chris O’Grady.
Then Barnsley: Steele, Wiseman, Cranie, Kennedy, Foster, Etuhu, Tunniciliffe, Perkins, Cywka, Dagnall, Harewood. Subs: Lidakevicius, Scotland, Mellis, Hassell, O'Brien, Delap, Rose.
How are the teams lining up? First, here’s Manchester City: Pantilimon, Zabaleta, Kolo Toure, Lescott, Kolarov, Yaya Toure, Barry, Silva, Tevez, Nasri, Dzeko. Subs: Hart, Clichy, Nastasic, Razak, Garcia, Milner, Sinclair.
Meanwhile, Barnsley have had real problems this season and are currently in the relegation zone in the Championship, one point from safety but crucially with a game in hand. They have had few problems in the FA Cup this season, travelling to MK Dons and taking a convincing 3-1 victory in the last round. However, they face a stiff task against their Premier League opponents this evening.
It’s not been the easiest season for Manchester City this term, as the Premier League champions languish 12 points behind their city rivals Manchester United in the table. The cup competitions haven’t given them that much respite either, with Aston Villa knocking them out the Capital One Cup and coming bottom of their Champions League group. However, the Citizens have won their three FA Cup games this season without conceding a goal, and will be hopeful of securing another win in this famous competition tonight.
Good evening, and welcome to Goal.com’s LIVE! text commentary on this FA Cup clash between Manchester City and Barnsley. I’m Chris Teale, thanks for being there with me.
