  • That's all from here - I hope you enjoyed this afternoon's coverage. Until next time...
  • FULL TIME! DORTMUND TAKE A 2-0 WIN AND TOP THE BUNDESLIGA! BvB did well to keep their composure after a shaky start, and deservedly went ahead through the brilliant Goetze. After the break, Mainz looked better, but Polanski's penalty miss summed up their performance - it just wasn't quite good enough. Once Barrios made it 2-0, there was no denying the result.
  • 90' + 2'
We're in the last 45 seconds of the match now...
  • 89'
LEWANDOWSKI IS ONE-ON-ONE WITH WETKLO AND.....OFFSIDE! Kagawa had done very well to set him up, but the Polish attacker was whistled offside. That was a questionable call... Afterward, Soto is booked for a crunching tackle in the play leading up to Kagawa's final ball.
  • 88'
    Yellow Card Elkin Soto
  • 88'
SZALAI! The striker has nearly no angle with which to shoot, but fires and forces a good kick save from Weidenfeller!
  • 87'
Grosskreutz fouls Risse as the pair duel for a header. Afterward, they have a few words for one another...
  • 86'
Antonio da Silva now comes on for Barrios, who appears to have shaken off a knock to his foot. Lewandowski moves into the lone striker role.
  • 85'
    SubstitutionL. Barrios Antônio da Silva
  • 85'
SAVED, and rather comfortably so. That effort lacked the venom of the previous shot...

  • 83'
    SubstitutionSami Allagui Andreas Ivanschitz
  • 83'
Andreas Ivanschitz replaces Allagui, who started well but has grown less and less influential as the game has progressed.
  • 82'
Schuerrle takes on Subotic, but the defender gets the best of the challenge and concedes a throw-in. Meanwhile, Barrios looks like he's ailing with a foot injury.
  • 81'
Champagne football from Dortmund before Schmelzer crosses. The left back's final ball was a bit too close to Wetklo, however, and the goalkeeper collects comfortably.
  • 79'
    SubstitutionMario Götze Robert Lewandowski
  • 79'
Robert Lewandowski comes off the bench to replace Goetze, who has grown rather leggy in the last few minutes...
  • 78'
BARRIOS! Over the bar! Goetze cleverly plays through, but Barrios rushes his shot and misses over the bar...
  • 77'
SAVED! GREAT SHOT by Fuchs, but Weidenfeller does well to tip over!
  • 76'
Here's a chance for Mainz - Santana gives away a free kick 25 yards from goal, and Fuchs has a chance to pull a goal back...
  • 75'
BARRIOS! Saved by Wetklo, but offside anyway. Great ball from Goetze, but the striker was just a hair behind the last defender.
  • 73'
Mainz with a good spell of possession, but are really struggling to penetrate.
  • 71'
    SubstitutionLewis Holtby Andre Schürrle
  • 70'
SZALAI! Ooh, off target! Allagui crosses, but the former Real Madrid Castilla man can't direct his header towards goal. Holtby, who played well but has become increasingly fatigued, is replaced by Andre Schuerrle.
  • 69'
Felipe Santana replaces Hummels, who appears to have taken a knock. Klopp will hope his centre half will make a swift recovery...
  • 68'
    SubstitutionMats Hummels Felipe Santana
  • 68'
Brilliant lead-up play by Goetze, who passed Noveski, then drew out two more defenders. That left Barrios unmarked, and at the last possible moment, Goetze slipped a through ball to the striker. Still with Wetklo to beat, Barrios rounded the goalkeeper and finished from a tight angle. 2-0 TO DORTMUND!
  • 67'
    Assist Mario Götze
  • 67'
    Goal L. Barrios
  • 67'
GOOOOOOOOOAL BARRIOS!!!!!!! DORTMUND 2-0 UP NOW!
  • 66'
Good defending by Noveski, who wins the ball off Goetze as the youngster looked to take him on...
  • 65'
KAGAWA! SAVED! The playmaker cuts in from the left and fires towards the far post, but Wetklo makes a diving save to concede a corner!
  • 64'
What a ball from Sahin to Schmelzer! The Turk is now taking on more ball-playing responsibilities. Maybe Holtby will have more space...
  • 62'
Really committed dueling from both midfields. Dortmund come out the better side this time, and break forward before Noveski heads a cross out for a corner.
  • 61'
ALLAGUI! Ooh, his low effort beat Weidenfeller, but went a foot wide of the left post!
  • 59'
WHAT A SAVE BY WETKLO! WHAT A DELIVERY BY SAHIN! The midfielder delivers a free kick from near the midfield line, and Hummels heads towards the left post. Wetklo makes an outstanding save, and Subotic is whistled offside as he looks to put in the rebound. That would have been against the run of play...
  • 58'
Oh, Polanski misses by a mile! Superb dribbling by Holtby, who sheds two markers before teeing up the midfielder, who blasts the ball into row Z. What a shame - Holtby really did well...
  • 56'
Mainz looking much better now; they're playing with the kind of intensity that has made them so dangerous. Every time Dortmund look to break, a red shirt is first to the ball.
  • 54'
HOLTBY! Hummels is late with a tackle, but play continues as the ball rolls to Holtby. The playmaker takes a touch before firing narrowly wide of the left post.
  • 52'
Grosskreutz does well to backtrack and concede a corner. Looking back on the penalty, Polanski really could have done better. His strike was neither low nor high, and not far to Weidenfeller's left. The goalkeeper did well to wait to make his move, but then had a fairly comfortable save to make.
  • 50'
ALLAGUI! Holtby plays through to the striker, who is free from Piszczek, but Weidenfeller times his run off the line to perfection, tipping the ball off Allagui's feet and out for a goal kick. What heroics from WEIDENFELLER!
  • 48'
    Penalty save Roman Weidenfeller
  • 48'
    Missed Penalty Eugen Polanski
  • 48'
WEIDENFELLER SAVES! OUTSTANDING! DORTMUND STILL LEAD 1-0, and the ball is cleared to safety!
  • 47'
PENALTY TO MAINZ! Allagui skins Subotic before laying off for Szalai. The Serbian defender's two-footed lunge connects with the ball, but the follow-through is what earns the penalty. Polanski steps up to the spot...
  • 46'
    SubstitutionNiko Bungert Marcel Risse
  • 46'
    AND WE'RE UNDERWAY AGAIN!
  • Players are coming out of the tunnel, and we're almost under way. Evidently, Marcel Risse will replace Bungert in the Mainz defence; you may recall that the latter cheaply lost possession before Goetze's opener.
  • That's all for now - I'll be back in 15 minutes for the second half...
  • HALF TIME! Mainz started off the better side, but Dortmund recovered and created the better opportunities, and are deserved leaders. Goetze's goal was pure class, although there could have been at least one or two goals from Barrios, plus the near-own goal from Wetklo. Mainz will be relieved not to enter the break down by a greater margin, but Tuchel cannot be satisfied with his team's performance overall.
  • 44'
After Barrios does well to run down a long ball, Goetze sets up Sahin, but the Turk misfires. Sahin really hasn't been touching the ball much thus far...
  • 43'
Great tackle by Schmelzer! Allagui did very well to beat and turn past Subotic, but the left back makes a decisive challenge to stop the attacker.
  • 41'
Mainz are looking a bit better, but Dortmund really want this. Deep in the defending half, Goetze and Sahin double team Caligiuri, and win back possession. BvB may have played 120 minutes in midweek, but are looking quite sprightly...
  • 39'
Bender comes in hard and late on Soto, and Mainz have a free kick on the left, near the midfield line. That might have been worth a booking, but none is forthcoming...
  • 38'
Subotic and Szalai do battle at the byline, and after some fine footwork, the Serbian wins a throw-in. Seven minutes remain before half-time - Mainz could really use a rally right now...
  • 35'
BARRIOS HITS THE POST! From the corner, Wetklo is caught in no-man's land, and Subotic heads across the face of goal. Barrios can't quite connect properly, and his shot glances off the inside of the post before Soto earns a free kick. It could have been 2-0!
  • 33'
SCHMELZER! WHAT A SHOT! And what a SAVE by Wetklo! The left back fires an absolute rocket from 25 yards, but Wetklo manages to get a first to it and concede a corner!
  • 32'
Barrios! Good defending from Noveski, who heads clear after the Paraguayan looked faoured to win a header on goal.
  • 30'
After a poor start, Dortmund are looking much better now. That goal really did wonders for their confidence.
  • 28'
What an outstanding goal by Goetze! After Schmelzer forced a giveaway from Bungert, Kagawa linked with Sahin, who played through to Goetze. With exquisite touch, the 18-year old danced rightward across the penalty box before producing an outstanding finish inside the left post. Incredible!
  • 26'
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL MARIO GOETZE! WHAT COMPOSURE! WHAT A FINISH! DORTMUND 1-0 UP!
  • 25'
    Goal Mario Götze
  • 24'
Ooh, that was nearly a goal for Kagawa! After Barrios nodded on a goal kick, the Japanese attacker somehow managed to reach the ball and fired over the bar!
  • 22'
Chance for SZALAI! The Mainz striker is free from Subotic as he heads a Fuchs cross towards goal, but off target.
  • 20'
AND NOW IT'S GOETZE! After some fine lead-up play, the youngster is found open in the left side of the box. He shows outstanding patience to jink free of a defender rather than hurry his shot, but Wetklo makes an outstanding save!
  • 19'
BARRIOS! Goetze runs at the Mainz defence before playing a clever ball to the striker, whose effort from 20 yards forces a good save from Wetklo.
  • 18'
HOWLER BY WETKLO! The goalkeeper fails to properly take in a back pass, and allows the ball to slip JUST wide of his left post!
  • 16'
Allagui does very well to free himself from Schmelzer before his final cross is deflected out for a corner. The German-Tunisian has impressed thus far...
  • 15'
That should have been 1-0 to Dortmund! Bender is first to a loose ball, and pokes through to Barrios, who had sprung the Mainz offside trap. The Paraguayan striker bears down on goal and pokes his finish past Christian Wetklo, but JUST wide of the left post!
  • 14'
BARRIOS MISSES BY INCHES! WHAT A CHANCE!!!!
  • 13'
OWCH! Fuchs swings in the set piece, and Noveski slams into Weidenfeller, conceding a free kick to the visitors. The goalkeeper is slow to get up, but will be fine...

OWCH! Fuchs swings in the set piece, and Noveski slams into Weidenfeller, conceding a free kick to the visitors. The goalkeeper is slow to get up, but will be fine...
  • 12'
For the second time, Mainz have a free kick on the right channel. This could be dangerous...
  • 11'
Allagui appears to get the better of Hummels, but Schmelzer is well positioned to win the ball back and clear.
  • 11'
Allagui appears to get the better of Hummels, but Schmelzer is well positioned to win the ball back.
  • 9'
Mainz are looking just a bit sharper with the ball as of yet. It will be interesting to see how, over the 90 minutes, each team plays after both dropped out of the DFB Pokal in midweek.
  • 7'
Holtby is up and running again - it looks like he'll shake off the knock.Goetze tries a through ball to Kagawa, and the Japanese gets into a tussle with Svensson, but is whistled for a foul.
  • 5'
MISTAKE BY HUMMELS! The young defender cheaply concedes possession deep in his own half, but Mainz cannot capitalise. Meanwhile, Holtby looks to have taken a knock on his ankle after a challenge from Sahin.
  • 2'
Grosskreutz approaches the attacking penalty box in transition, but his speculative shot from distance is comfortably saved.
  • 1'
OOH, CHANCE FOR MAINZ EARLY! The corner comes in and BvB have a very difficult time clearing. The ball is eventually cleared from danger, but that could have spelled trouble for the visitors!
  • 1'
AND WE'RE UNDER WAY! After Goetze kicks off, Mainz promptly recover possession and Holtby wins a corner.
  • Quite a picture in the stands - the Dortmund fans have formed a rowdy sea of black and yellow, waving flags, while the Mainz fans (in red) look rather tame.
  • Captains Noveski (Mainz) and Weidenfeller (Dortmund) exchange pleasantries in the centre circle, and we're almost underway...
  • Goetze had been rated doubtful before the match, but apparently has recovered enough to start in place of Kuba, who failed to make the bench due to fitness concerns.
  • And for Dortmund, who will play in a 4-2-3-1 shape: Weidenfeller - Piszczek, Subotic, Hummels, Schmelzer - Bender, Sahin - Goetze, Kagawa, Grosskreutz - Barrios
  • Notably, starlet Andre Schuerrle has been left out of Thomas Tuchel's first choice XI, but he is fit enough to make the bench.
  • Starting line-ups are in. Mainz will adopt a 4-3-1-2 shape: Wetklo - Bungert, Svensson, Noveski, Fuchs - Caligiuri, Polanski, Soto - Holtby - Szalai, Allagui
  • That they play at home will be a major advantage for Mainz, who have lost just three times at the Stadion am Bruchweg since being promoted to the first division in 2009. However, Dortmund should not be underestimated; the Ruhr have a perfect road record, and will take hope from the fact that Mainz's only loss of the season came at home to Hamburg.
  • When the Bundesliga schedule was sorted out, few would have guessed that this afternoon's clash would be arguably the biggest match of the fall campaign. However, both contestants have begun the season in outstanding form, and are comfortably front runners in the title race.
