S. Allagui 84'
B. Schweinsteiger 9'
T. Müller 50'
M. Gómez 77'
Knut Kircher blows the whistle to signal the end of proceedings! Bayern have run out convincing 3-1 winners and warmed up in perfect style for the Champions League encounter with Inter. Sure, there was the odd defensive lapse but overall Bayern were imperious. They now leapfrog Bayer Leverkusen, who play tomorrow, into second. Thanks for joining us this evening and until next time, Auf Wiedersehen.
Allagui is called for offside, just as he looks to have got beyond the Bayern defence. There will be two minutes of stoppage time.
Ribery yet again just oozing class - first he shrugs off Kirchhoff and then he beats Zabavnik but his cutback is cleared. He and Robben in tandem are almost impossible to stop. At the other end, Butt makes a straightforward stop from Scheurrle, who came inside on his left foot to shoot from the right-hand side of the penalty box.
Soto looks to drive forward but his ball towards the left-hand side is cut out by Kroos, who anticipated the intention of the Colombian. Appeals for handball against Kroos fall on deaf ears.
It was a very poor effort from Pranjic for the goal and question marks have to be placed against his name before the Inter game. Luiz Gustavo would be a safer bet to play at left-back.
Malik Fathi has come on for the final few minutes in place of Eugen Polanski.
Assist Christian Fuchs
Goal Sami Allagui
TORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR MAINZ!!! I said they hadn't given up!! Bizarre scenes in the Bayern box as Pranjic makes no attempt whatsoever to contest the back post header with Sami Allagui, who says Danke Schön and rises above the Croatian to head high into the net past a helpless Butt.
Kroos almost finds Robben with a delicate through ball of his own. Credit to Mainz, who in spite of being outplayed, have not given up...
Selfless from Ribery but it should have been a fourth goal! He opted to square the ball to Gomez but Kirchhoff cut the ball out before it could reach the Bundesliga's top goalscorer.
Ribery with a rare header, looking for Robben but Noveski cuts the ball out in the nick of time. At the other end, Tymoschuk fouls Holtby leading to a quickly-taken free-kick. Fuchs' cross from the left is headed clear by Breno.
Gomez is penalised for handball after an errant first touch with his right boot. Meanwhile, Thomas Mueller comes off and Breno replaces him, meaning Luiz Gustavo can again move forward to midfield.
Holtby eschews the cross and instead looks to tee up Eugen "Roman" Polanski outside the box. He goes for placement with the instep and gets it all wrong.
Risse looks for handball after Pranjic blocks his cross and indeed the Croatian is penalised. Free-kick to Mainz over on the right.
Assist Thomas Müller
Goal M. Gómez
TORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR FC BAYERN!!! Ruthless from the champions on the counter and Mario Gomez has yet another goal!! Thomas Mueller breaks into the box and he squares the ball to Gomez, who taps the ball home into the vacant goal with Heinz Mueller already committed at the near post. Van Gaal does not hold back in his celebration though I'm not sure I can repeat what he shouted!
Robben teases the defender before laying the ball out to Lahm whose cross is again a little close to Heinz Mueller. From the kick upfield, Allagui wins a free-kick, this time from a tug from Luiz Gustavo - the boot being on the other foot!
More cries of disapproval as Risse is flagged for offside but it's the right decision in this instance, as tight as it was. The winger stepped back from an offside position and did not fool the assistant referee.
Howls of derision from the home fans as Allagui is belatedly penalised for the merest of tugs on Luiz Gustavo's shirt. The Tunisian is warned by Knut Kircher for dissent.
Mainz win a free-kick 30 yards out. Schuerrle finds the wall although Risse retrieves over on the right. He does well to find Schuerrle with his cross - it sits up for the striker but he shins it hopelessly wide of the goal. Should have done better there but all credit to Risse who works so hard down the right flank and chases down lost causes with his pace.
Kroos skips past one challenge before finding Robben. The Dutchman plays the ball through the eye of the needle to complete a one-two to Kroos whose shot is saved by Heinz Mueller. Some of Robben's passing tonight has been a joy to behold. He is one of the top three players in the world for my money.
Mainz continue to look dangerous as Risse bursts into the box but his run was taking him away from goal on the diagonal but he resourcefully wins a corner. Kroos makes an excellent challenge on Zabavnik inside the penalty box and then Zabavnik gets up to foul Ribery.
BUTT TO THE RESCUE!!! After Allagui gets all tangled up trying a spectacular overhead kick, Butt pulls off a smart reaction stop to his left to keep out Schuerrle's low shot.
Holtby plays a quite incredible through-ball, which is at least the equal of Robben's effort a few minutes earlier. Schuerrle is incredulous and so is Tuchel as the linesman has his flag up for offside, when the Mainz striker looked to be level with the last defender.
Bayern make a substitution of their own and it's an encouraging change as Toni Kroos makes his comeback from a foot injury. He replaces Holger Badstuber, who has had one or two hairy moments this evening.
Another change for Tinkerman Thomas - Elkin Soto, who was slated to start this game, comes on in midfield for Marco Caligiuri, whose passing has been wayward tonight.
Robben manages a smile as he gets his free-kick all wrong, grossly overhitting the ball. He certainly has not been restricted with his finger injury and has shown he does not just have explosive pace but superb vision and creative flair - we have seen a more subtle side to his all-round game this evening.
OFF THE POST!!! Mainz are looking a little impotent at the moment and Bayern are well-organised and solid in defence and midfield. Yet again they show they can create a chance at will as a delightful through-ball from Robben finds Thomas Mueller, who strikes the base of the post with Heinz Mueller beaten!
Yellow Card Lewis Holtby
More excellent skill and trickery from Ribery sees Holtby resort to a trip as the only means of halting the Frenchman's progress. Holtby is booked to his great surprise, despite only just entering the field of play.
Lahm recovers after his pass hits the heel of Robben however his cross lacks any danger whatsoever and Heinz Mueller is able to take it comfortably.
Lewis Holtby comes on as Mainz look to find a way back into the game. He replaces Peter Sliskovic.
Almost another goal for Bayern. Smart footwork from Ribery opens up the possibility for the shot, which is beaten away by Heinz Mueller. Gomez and Thomas Mueller are then crowded out in the ensuing scramble.
The home fans refuse to fall silent and they of course will have a new stadium from the summer - the Coface Arena with a capacity of around 33,000. It will host next year's Liga Total Cup, also featuring Hamburg, Bayern and Dortmund.
Nothing comes of a Fuchs free-kick. Pranjic meanwhile plays a superb ball out to Ribery who holds the ball up before support arrives. Bayern spread the play to the other side and Lahm makes a run into the box before cutting the ball back for Gomez, who shoots over at the near post.
Assist Arjen Robben
Mueller capitalised on an excellent assist from Robben, who hooked the ball over his shoulder into Mueller's path. Noveski was the main culprit for Mainz, being caught in possession inside his own defensive third. Bayern surely on their way to end their Mainz hoodoo.
Goal Thomas Müller
TORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR BAYERN!!! Surely that clinches the three points for the champions!! Thomas Mueller gets his eighth goal of the season with a good finish from eight yards as he beat Zabavnik to the ball.
WHAT A CHANCE!! Schweinsteiger holds his hands to his head after missing a gilt-edged opportunity from Robben's free-kick. Heinz Mueller does well to react and keep out Schweini's effort from inside the six-yard box. Will Bayern live to rue their profligacy?
We're underway in the second-half as Gomez and Mueller kick us off. Bayern have made one change at the break - no chances are being taken with Thomas Kraft ahead of the Champions League game with Inter so Hans-Joerg Butt is on in his stead.
Butt's first touch since coming on is a rather unconvincing punch away from Schuerrle's high up and under into the path of Allagui. Mainz applying a bit of pressure early doors in the second-half and they win a corner, which Butt takes with much more confidence.
The half-time whistle goes and Bayern lead 1-0 at the break thanks to a beautifully worked goal from Bastian Schweinsteiger. The champions have wasted a few other chances but should also be grateful to Thomas Kraft, who made a superb save from Andre Schuerrle. Mainz not out of this yet but Bayern the better side. Join me in 15 minutes for the second period.
There will be one minute of additional time at the end of the first-half, due to the treatment for Thomas Kraft.
Risse tries to pick out Noveski at the back stick but it's above the salmon-like leap of the Macedoanian and Robben is able to retrieve the ball.
Fuchs shakes off Lahm and Allagui screams for a penalty, claiming a push in the back as he looks to head in the Austrian's cross. Risse wins a corner for the home side.
Schweinsteiger cuts out Polanski's ball however the attack breaks down, to the annoyance of Mueller who kicks the air in frustration. Mainz have had their moments in this half, of that there is no doubt. And carelessness from Badstuber who almost runs into trouble but he is tripped by Schuerrle.
Robben shapes to go inside then goes outside, leaving Fuchs trailing in his wake but his cross is cit out. Mainz counter and KRAFT MAKES A STUNNING SAVE!! After superb work from Sliskovic, Allagui finds Schuerrle inside the box. He gets away from Badstuber and looks to have found the bottom corner but Kraft reacts superbly and sticks out his right hand to deny Mainz!
Heinz Mueller plucks yet another Ribery corner out of the air much to the delight of the home supporters. The home side need to stem the tide here as Bayern will win this at a canter if they start taking their chances.
OHHHHHHHHH BAYERN ONCE AGAIN!! They cut Mainz open!! Mueller's glorious ball sends Robben clear down the right. He picks out Ribery at the back stick, whose shot is blocked by Zabavnik and goes behind for a corner. Again, Ribery should have done better.
Risse nutmegs Pranjic then outpaces the Croatian, gets to the by-line and stands the ball up to the far post. However, Tymoschuk gets his head to the ball.
Ribery is sent clear again down the left and he arrows his run infield but his cross is cut out by Zabavnik and behind for a corner. It was not the best choice from the Frenchman and Robben and Mueller were left disappointment. Riba takes the corner and it's well overhit and out of play.
Risse embarks upon a promising mazy dribble but he lets himself down with a nondescript daisycutter of a shot. Hans-Joerg Butt is warming up on the sidelines - perhaps Kraft will not continue after taking a knock to the head earlier from Sliskovic, which in all truth looked innocous at the time.
More frustration for our friend Thomas Tuchel. Risse plays a superb ball to Allagui who goes for goal from a tight angle. The Tunisian striker's first touch is good but he shoots over the bar - it was a difficult chance in all fairness - but encouraging nonetheless for die Null-Fuenfer.
Fuchs, as ever, is behind the ball. He goes for placement, lifting the ball over the wall and looking for the top corner but he gets underneath it just a touch too much, to the relief of Bayern.
Yellow Card Holger Badstuber
Fuchs' free-kick is beaten away by Kraft unconvincingly. Badstuber then receives a booking after a cynical trip on Allagui just outside the box. No complaints this time from the German international and another free-kick in a dangerous position.
Schweinsteiger has a puzzled look as Luiz Gustavo is penalised for a tug on Allagui. The Brazilian has moved to midfield with Pranjic now at left-back.
OHHHHHHH JUST WIDE FROM SCHUERRLE!! Thomas Tuchel dances around the technical area in disbelief!! Allagui with a superb ball for Schuerrle, who spots Kraft off his line. He lobs the keeper only for the ball to go inches wide of the post with Kraft scrambling to recover his position. Schuerrle showing just why he is so highly rated by many in the game.
Some panic and complacency in the Bayern defence as Badstuber lets Sliskovic run in behind but Kraft is wise to the danger and he comes out and claims the ball, receiving an accidental blow from the Mainz newcomer for his troubles. On come the medical staff.
The ball into the box is headed away into the path of Luiz Gustavo who strikes the ball from distance with a good deal of venom. Zabavnik makes a brave block with Heinz Mueller already committed to the dive. And incidentally, Fuchs has swapped again with Zabavnik.
Heinz Mueller punches the resulting corner clear to Luiz Gustavo who wins a throw and then a corner. Ribery works his way out of a tight spot before Bayern win another corner - they're piling on the pressure here.
Lahm's progress is illegally thwarted as he looks to come down the right-hand side. Mueller then dances away from two and three challenges before looking to catch his namesake Heinz off his line. The ball takes a wicked deflection and almost bounced inside the left-hand post.
Bayern win another corner, which Ribery takes. It is headed away and Mainz do well with the second ball as Caligiuri wins the challenge with Robben before coming away with the ball. Thomas Mueller is then penalised for a challenge on Polanski as he comes in clumsily from behind although again it's a questionable call from Kircher.
Ribery takes the free-kick and there is almost even more trouble for Fuchs as the ball looks to strike him in the hand inside the box but he knew little about it as he was looking in the other direction. Gomez is then very harshly penalised for offside, in fact for a foul, much to his disappointment. It looked like a shoulder-shoulder challenge with Zabavnik, which last time I checked had not yet been outlawed!
Yellow Card Christian Fuchs
Excellent control from Ribery to take the ball down but he is then tripped as he looks to skin Fuchs on the outside. That indiscretion earns the Austrian captain a deserved yellow card.
Badstuber ridiculously pleads his innocence after being penalised for shirt-pulling. Fuchs is standing behind the free-kick and he looks to float the ball into the box, however he gets too much on it and it passes through to Kraft.
Gomez screams in pain as he is brought down inside the penalty box after he shrugs off the initial challenge from Noveski. Kirchhoff comes in on the giant striker from behind but does win the ball and in truth there are no complaints from the Bayern players.
In an interesting tactic, Mainz have switched their fullbacks to deal with Bayern's inside-out wingers. Fuchs, a left-footer is at right-back to deal with Ribery and Zabavnik has moved over to left-back.
Robben, back over on the right, chooses to ignore Lahm's overlapping run and tries the shot but Mueller gets down to make a routine save. At the other hand, Badstuber nips in ahead of Allagui to avert the danger.
OHHH SHOULD HAVE BEEN TWO!! Arjen Robben leaves all and sundry for dead as he bursts down the left hand side. He picks out Thomas Mueller, who is unmarked around 11 yards from goal and the Golden Boot winner disappointingly shoots over on his left-foot. And doesn't he know what a great opportunity that was!
Assist Arjen Robben
Goal Bastian Schweinsteiger
TORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR FC BAYERN!!!! The champions have the lead!!! Ribery played the corner short and got it back. He then played a superb cross to the far post, where Robben headed it back across goal with the utmost of precision. He picked out Schweinsteiger who nodded the ball beyond Mueller! And there you have it, the quality of Bayern, who can strike at any given moment.
...and he goes for goal!!! Against everyone's expectations he strikes the ball towards goal and Mueller does well to react.
Ribery's corner is headed away by Caligiuri. Kirchhoff miscontrols the ball with Ribery snapping at his heels and he then trips the Frenchman from behind just outside the box. Free-kick to Bayern in a dangerous position, which Riba will take...
The first signs of Bayern at last. Robben peels off down the right-hand side and controls Schweinsteiger's magnificent ball over the top superbly on his chest. His cutback into the centre is put behind for a corner. From that, it falls to Pranjic outside the box and his left-footed shot deflects off Kirchhoff and behind for another corner.
Mainz have settled quicker. Schuerrle goes past Lahm like he wasn't there down the left hand side but unfortunately his touch let him down and the ball skipped away from the man who will sign for Leverkusen in the summer. That's a battle to watch this evening.
Sliskovic gets to the by-line but cannot quite keep the ball under control, though he keeps it in play. Mainz recover it a few seconds later but the attack breaks down with Zabavnik's ball over the top sailing through to Kraft.
Schuerrle comes infield off the left flank and lets fly from just outside the box but his low shot skips through off the turf into the arms of Thomas Kraft. The young goalie did well to get his whole body around that as it took a bobble or two on its way.
Knut Kircher blows his whistle and Mainz kick us off in their red strips. Bayern are in their change strip of black. And as suspected, Arjen Robben is sporting a splint on the little finger on his right hand.
Bayern Munich: Kraft - Lahm, Tymoschuk, Badstuber, Luiz Gustavo - Schweinsteiger, Pranjic - Robben, Mueller, Ribéry - Gomez. Subs: Hamit Altintop, Breno, Klose, Butt (gk), Kroos, Ottl, van Buyten
Mainz: Mueller - Zabavnik, Kirchhoff, Noveski, Fuchs - Caligiuri, Polanski - Risse, Allagui, Schuerrle - Sliskovic. Subs: Fathi, Ivanschitz, Holtby, Heller, Soto, Bungert, Wetklo (gk).
Mainz also triumphed against Bayern last season although Tuchel laughed off less than serious suggestions by one journalist that he is something of a plague or a curse for der Rekordmeister. As for Bayern, they are only too aware of their previous difficulties against die Null-Fuenfer and they are hoping to put them right this evening.
Guten Abend und willkommen to Goal.com's live commentary of the Spiel des Woches - Thomas Tuchel's Mainz host the champions FC Bayern München in the Stadion am Bruchweg. Mainz memorably won 2-1 at the Allianz Arena in September, one of their greatest wins in the club's history. Bayern were ominously on song against Hoffenheim last week, winning 4-0, and will want to warm up in the perfect manner for their midweek trip to the San Siro to take on Inter.
