Lorient-Paris Saint-Germain Preview: Blanc out to prove a point after scathing Gourcuff comments

Lorient-Paris Saint-Germain Preview: Blanc out to prove a point after scathing Gourcuff comments

Les Parisiens' boss will be eager to inflict a second thrashing of the season on the hosts after his opposite number claimed he had no part to play in his side's success

Christian Gourcuff will look for Lorient to justify his criticism of Paris Saint-Germain boss Laurent Blanc when they meet on Friday.

Lorient coach Gourcuff was scathing in his assessment of Blanc earlier this month, insisting that the former France national boss "is not a coach" and crediting PSG assistant Jean-Louis Gasset as the real reason behind the capital club's success.

Blanc was unaffected by Gourcuff's remarks, though, and hit back at the ex-Rennes coach for failing to realise that the profession of management has evolved.

The two will face off at the Stade du Moustoir on Friday, with Lorient looking for revenge after being hammered 4-0 by PSG in the reverse fixture in Paris.

And, while Gourcuff, who is in his third spell as coach of Lorient, spanning more than 20 years, has been quick to pass judgement on his coaching counterparts, it is the 58-year-old who heads into the game in the spotlight following speculation about his Lorient future.

Gourcuff's contract at Lorient expires at the end of the campaign, and he revealed this week that he had opted not to make a decision on a new deal proposed by club president Loic Fery.

Relations between Gourcuff and Fery are thought to have been strained since the sale of midfielder Mario Lemina to Olympique de Marseille in September.

The tension surrounding Lorient, who sit 12th in Ligue 1 following last weekend's 2-0 defeat at Sochaux, is unlikely to ease with the visit of a PSG side that is in blistering form.

Les Parisiens' 2-0 win over Saint-Etienne on Sunday capped off a week in which Blanc's men sealed progression into the last eight of the Champions League with a 6-1 aggregate success over Bayer Leverkusen, keeping the club's ambitions of winning four trophies this season alive.

History is very much on PSG's side as they approach the fixture, as they have not tasted defeat at Lorient since 2008.

On that day the hosts secured a 1-0 win, thanks to an own goal from PSG defender Gregory Bourillon, who then moved to Lorient in 2010.

The visitors have a near fully fit squad to choose from for the trip to the north west, with defender Gregory van der Wiel the only player doubtful for the encounter because of a knee problem.

Lorient should be boosted by the return of top scorer Vincent Aboubakar from a knee injury that forced him to miss the loss at Sochaux.

Defender Lamine Gassama will definitely miss because of suspension and Sadio Diallo is a doubt with groin complaint, although centre-back Bourillon and midfielder Mathieu Coutadeur are both in line to feature.
