Live Commentary

  • My name's Ben Cullimore and it's been an absolute pleasure describing all of the action to you this evening. Until next time, goodbye!
  • Hull City will feel extremely hard done by, as for large periods of the game they were arguably the better of the two sides. However, as time went on they started to run out of ideas in front of goal and were unable to make the several chances that they did have count, allowing Lokeren to pounce on an unfortunate McGregor howler which ultimately won them the game.
  • 90' + 4'
Maguire fires from distance but it hits Ince who is in an offside position, bringing an end to what could be Hull City's final chance of the game.
  • 90' + 2'
Hull City are throwing as many bodies forward as possible but they still can't find a way past the Lokeren defence. Ball after ball is sent into the heart of the Lokeren penalty area but the Belgian side are still yet to let their concentration slip.
  • 90'
    Yellow Card M'Baye Leye
  • 90'
The fourth official has indicated that there will be four minutes of added time.
  • 89'
Aluko, who has been one of Hull City's best players tonight, sends a great cross towards Chester but the latter's headed effort flashes wide of the goal.
  • 88'
    SubstitutionNill De Pauw Beshart Abdurahimi
  • 87'
It's all Hull City at the moment but Lokeren are standing tall. This time Aluko finds himself with the ball just outside the penalty area and he tries to send a pass through towards the byline but it's too heavy and it rolls out for a goal kick.
  • 85'
    Yellow Card Paul McShane
  • 85'
Hull City have two corners in quick succession but Lokeren, who have pulled all available bodies back into the penalty area, are able to clear the danger both times.
  • 84'
Great shot by Meyler! The Irishman hits a firm shot that looked as if it was dipping just under the crossbar and Verhulst palms the ball over the crossbar and out for a corner.
  • 83'
    SubstitutionJúnior Dutra M'Baye Leye
  • 82'
Hull City have increased the pressure on the Lokeren defence but the hosts are looking as sharp as they did at the start of the game.
  • 80'
    SubstitutionGeorge Boyd Ahmed El Mohamady
  • 80'
Hull City appeal for a penalty after Ince is bundled over just inside the penalty area but the referee waves play on. Ince, Jelavic and the 1,000 Hull City fans aren't at all happy with the decision.
  • 78'
Hull City have looked sharper since Jelavic and Ince came on but they still can't find a way past Verhulst, who has been impressive between the sticks.
  • 77'
    SubstitutionJordan Remacle Evariste Ngolok
  • 76'
Hull City's possession finally does turn into a chance on goal, as Figueroa sends the ball into the Lokeren penalty area where Rosenior meets it with his head, but Verhulst saves the attempt comfortably.
  • 74'
Hull City are enjoying a good spell of possession at the moment but so far they have been unable to turn it into a chance on goal.
  • 72'
    SubstitutionY. Sagbo Nikica Jelavic
  • 72'
    SubstitutionRobbie Brady Thomas Ince
  • 72'
Here come the substitutions: Sagbo and Brady make way for Jelavic and Ince, respectively. Can they initiate a Hull City comeback?
  • 70'
Hull City earn themselves a corner, which Brady tries to volley with an acrobatic bicycle kick. He misses the ball completely and Odoi breaks away for Lokeren, squaring the ball to Remacle who fires towards goal, but Rosenior blocks his effort well.
  • 68'
Jelavic and Ince are warming up on the touchline, so it looks as if Steve Bruce is going to make two much-needed substitutions.
  • 67'
McGregor pulls off another fantastic instinctive save from the resulting corner kick to keep his side just one goal behind. Lokeren's forwards are full of confidence and Hull City are finding it extremely difficult to keep them at bay.
  • 65'
De Pauw, once again, fires towards McGregor from just inside the penalty area but the Hull City goalkeeper somewhat redeems himself for his earlier error by beating the Belgian's shot away from goal.
  • 64'
With Hull City trailing 1-0, it wouldn't be a surprise if we soon see Steve Bruce make a substitution or two. Lokeren are looking strong and their visitors are starting to struggle.
  • 62'
Lokeren have the wind in their sails right now. This time, another attacking move ends with Dutra, whose shot doesn't go too far wide of the goal. The hosts smell blood and they want another goal in an attempt to kill off the game.
  • 60'
Aluko attempts to level the scorelines once again with a long-range shot but his effort sails over the crossbar.
  • 58'
    Goal Hans Vanaken
GOAL! A howler by McGregor, who, under no pressure whatsoever, accidentally passes the ball out to Vanaken who rounds the Scottish goalkeeper before slotting the ball into the back of the net. After playing so well for so long, Hull City now find themselves a goal down with little over 30 minutes left to play.
  • 56'
Peter Maes will be happy with how his Lokeren side have started the second half. De Pauw and Dutra continue to trouble Hull City, as has Odoi down the left flank.
  • 54'
Whilst Hull City remain strong and resolute in defence, they haven't created nearly as many chances as they did in the opening stages of the first half. Lokeren have started the second half the stronger of the two sides and De Pauw in particular looks dangerous.
  • 52'
The Lokeren fans have been in fine voice all evening but since De Pauw's near chance they have raised the volume even further. To Hull City's credit, they have responded well since almost going behind, with the impressive defence not looking particularly shaken.
  • 50'
Great chance for Lokeren! De Pauw sends a fantastic shot towards goal that was heading for the top corner but McGregor dives acrobatically to push the ball away towards the corner flag.
  • 48'
Maguire challenges Dutra and the referee awards Lokeren with a free-kick. Scholz sends the resulting set-piece towards Odoi but Maguire is there once again and is able to cut out the danger before sending the ball back into the Lokeren half of the pitch.
  • 46'
    And we're underway once again!
  • The two sides are back out on the pitch ahead of the start of the second half.
  • Hull City started brightly but Lokeren have come back into the game, and, as a result, the visitors have found it increasingly difficult to penetrate a resolute back line. Sagbo was presented with the best chance so far but was unable to make it count, whilst Dutra has on several occassions proved to be a worry for the Hull City defence. However, they have looked strong and impressive throughout, allowing Steve Bruce's side to make their way into the changing rooms at half-time with the scoreline still level at 0-0.
  • 45'
Lokeren push plenty of men forward in an attempt to break the deadlock but Vanaken's final ball towards De Pauw finds the Belgian winger in an offside position.
  • 43'
Odoi has grown into a menacing figure in the back line for Lokeren; both Sagbo and Brady have both been struggling against the defender over the past few minutes and Hull City push forward to try and grab an important away goal just before half time.
  • 41'
Brady sends a free kick towards Sagbo at the back post, who stoops down low to head towards goal but his attempt is inaccurate and it flies out for a Lokeren goal kick.
  • 39'
Hull City's bright start to the game seems like a thing of the past now. Lokeren have found their way back into the clash and are starting to cause problems for the visitors, who are being forced to spend the majority of their time defending.
  • 37'
Lokeren break away on another break down the right wing. Dutra, the Belgian side's target man, receives the ball and decides to fire from just outside the penalty area but it blazes over the crossbar.
  • 35'
Maguire catches De Pauw and the referee has a word with him as a result, but no card is brandished.
  • 33'
Maguire fires a ball towards Sagbo near the Lokeren goal but it's easily cleared by Scholz, who kickstarts another counter attack for the hosts.
  • 31'
Lokeren win a penalty that's sent towards the Hull City penalty area. It finally ends up with De Pauw who fires from long range but it fails to trouble McGregor.
  • 29'
The pace of the game has slowed down somewhat. Hull City are bossing possession at the moment but, like Lokeren a few minutes ago, they are finding it difficult to turn it into chances in front of goal.
  • 27'
Lokeren are growing into the game but they are still finding it difficult to penetrate the Hull City back line. Figueroa is beaten by Remacle who then sends a cross into the penalty area but it's too heavy and it misses its intended target.
  • 25'
Hull City are keeping the pressure firmly on Lokeren whenever the Belgian side are in possession. They try to embark on an attacking move but after being forced to pass the ball around in the Hull City half of the pitch due to impressive defending by the visitors, they are forced to send the ball all the way back to goalkeeper Verhulst.
  • 23'
Dutra loses possession and Sagbo is able to break away, but his pass towards Boyd is poor and the attack breaks down.
  • 21'
After 20 minutes in which Hull City have been unable to get the ball into the back of the Lokeren net, Steve Bruce has made a tactical alteration by pushing Chester further in front of the back four, seemingly in an attempt to build on the pressure that they have already exerted on the hosts.
  • 19'
Rosenior is presented with a great opportunity to head Hull City into the lead from six yards out but he sends his effort so wide of the goal that it remains in play.
  • 17'
Persoons loses possession, allowing Hull City to break away on a counter attack. Chester finds himself with the ball 10 yards outside of the Lokeren penalty area and decides to shoot, but his effort goes wide.
  • 15'
Scholz sends a ball out towards Odoi who is in plenty of space but the Lokeren defender is unable to control the ball and it goes out for a Hull City throw-in.
  • 13'
Hull City's bright start continues; they remain full of ideas up front whilst also being strong in defence, much to the delight of the 1,000 fans that have made the long journey from the East Riding of Yorkshire.
  • 11'
Galitsios knocks the ball through in an attempt to find one of several Lokeren shirts but the linesman flags for offside, bringing an end to a decent chance for the hosts.
  • 9'
Another good attacking movement - this time heavily involving Brady - ends up with Meyler on the edge of the penalty area. The Republic of Ireland midfielder decides to shoot but the attempt is weak and it ends up in the arms of goalkeeper Verhulst.
  • 7'
Great chance for Hull City! Sagbo is presented with a wonderful opportunity to give the visitors an early lead after great work by Figueroa but the Ivorian striker is unable to convert the chance.
  • 5'
Overmeire challenges Aluko in the middle of the field and referee Matej Jug awards Hull City with their first free-kick of the game.
  • 3'
Bright start by both sides but neither have found a way through the respective defensive lines.
  • 1'
    And we're off!
  • The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch as kick-off fast approaches. The atmosphere here at Daknamstadion is fantastic, with both sets of fans in fine voice.
  • As for Hull City, Steve Bruce has made nine changes to the side that won 1-0 against Queens Park Rangers on the opening day of the season, with McGregor and Chester the only survivors. Hull City have plenty of talent on the substitutes' bench, however, so it's likely that we will see the likes of Jelavic and Livermore making an appearance later in the game.
  • Lokeren, last season's Belgian Cup winners, have had a reasonable start to the new Belgian Pro League campaign, winning two of their last three games after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Westerlo in their first game of the season. They host Hull City five days after their 2-0 win at home to Lierse, and manager Peter Maes has decided to make just one change to the side that started that game, with goalscorer Abdurahimi making way for Brazilian midfielder Dutra.
  • Hull City substitutes: Harper, Robertson, El Mohamady, Ince, Livermore, Huddlestone, Jelavic
  • Hull City XI: McGregor; Rosenior, Maguire, McShane, Figueroa; Meyler, Chester, Boyd; Aluko, Brady; Sagbo
  • Lokeren substitutes: Barry, Mertens, Arthur Henrique, Leye, Kaya, Abdurahimi, Ngolok
  • Lokeren XI: Verhulst; Galitsios, Maric, Scholz, Odoi; De Pauw, Persoons, Overmeire, Vanaken, Remacle; Dutra
  • First, let's have a look at how the two teams will be lining up tonight…
  • Hull City will be aiming to get off to a good start in this evening's first leg clash to keep alive their hopes of reaching the group stage of the Europa League on their first ever European adventure, whilst Lokeren, back in the competition once again after a season-long absence, will also be looking to qualify for the group stage for the first time in their history.
  • Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of tonight's Europa League game between Lokeren and Hull City. My name is Ben Cullimore and I will be keeping you up-to-date with all of the action from Daknamstadion.
