Excellent stop on the stroke of half time and dealt with everything thrown his way fairly comfortably. Has improved so much since his early-season wobbles.
Gets forward superbly, adding weight to Liverpool’s attacks, but sometimes at the expense of his defensive duties.
Continues to look somewhat shaky. Extremely fortunate not to give away a penalty when he took Perez out in the box, and lacks any kind of authority. He’s just not settled yet and this was the latest example of his struggles.
Appeared uncertain defensively and failed to get forward to any great effect.
Such an industrious player. Got forward well in this one and is becoming a big influence on this team.
Superb. What technique this young man has. Scored a brilliant opener and added pace and urgency to Liverpool’s attacks all evening. Missed a sitter in the second half from close range and faded late on, but he done his job by then.
Worked hard all evening but failed to really impact the game in the way that he can do. He has a big future, though. Replaced by Borini on the hour mark.
Such a bright, inventive player, and one who has had a terrific season.
Looks like Liverpool’s best defender. Composed, strong and technically able.
Tidy player who keeps possession well. Scored Liverpool’s second – an excellent half-volley after Newcastle failed to deal with a corner – and looked composed throughout.
A calming influence in front of the back four. He always wants the ball from his defenders and produced some wonderful passing from deep. Nearly scored with a header in the first half, even though there was more than a hint of offside, and protected his defence well throughout.
Made a superb one-handed stop from Lucas’ first-half header and could do little with either goal.
Has had a superb season and was Newcastle’s best defender at Anfield. Reads the game superbly and distributes the ball well from deep. Might be a target for a bigger club this summer.
The most vocal in the Newcastle backline but looks short of pace at times.
Struggled to combat Sterling’s pace and movement and was almost directly responsible for a goal when he allowed a cross to go under his foot only for Sterling to miss from close range.
Showed some nice touches and clearly has ability, but perhaps lacks the strength and desire needed to be a success.
Played at left-back, an unfamiliar role for him, and kept Ibe quiet. Decent display.
Showed some nice touches but final ball too often let him down. Had a shot from the edge of the area midway through the first half which he should have done better with and an even better shot right on half time after being played in by Sissoko.
Gave a real high-intensity display, trying to press the Liverpool midfield, but given the home side’s dominance he chased shadows for much of the game.
Brought energy and drive to Newcastle’s midfield and looks a cut above the majority of his teammates, however, a poor challenge on Lucas saw him receive a second yellow. It could, and probably should, have been a straight red.
Worked hard but lacks the quality needed to make an impact at the highest level.
