Greg Stobart: "The fans in the Kop are willing the ball into the net when Liverpool attack and really sense the opportunity to inflict City's first defeat of the season. The Reds have been the better side throughout the second-half and Kenny Dalglish has had his head in his hands on more than one occasion. This could be a long final 10 minutes for City as Liverpool make a final push for all three points."

Greg Stobart at Anfield: "Both managers are standing passively in the technical area, hands in pockets as they ponder a tactical tweak or substitution that could turn the game in their side's favour. Liverpool have played with more purpose than the visitors since the break but will know that City can be devastating on the counter-attack. It's very finely poised."

  • 46'
Liverpool get the second half underway.
  • Greg Stobart: "Half-time at Anfield and the teams go in with the 1-1 scoreline reflecting an evenly matched first 45 minutes between Liverpool and Manchester City. City started the better side without particularly creating chances, but the game burst into the life after Vincent Kompany's opener for the the visitors. There was a real ebb and flow in the last 15 minutes of the half, with both teams playing with less inhibition and more attacking zeal. Liverpool n particular seemed to really grow in confidence after Joleon Lescott's own goal levelled the score – and the hosts have boasted the stand-out player of the match so far in Lucas."

First, Vincent Kompany helped in David Silva's corner with his shoulder to give City the lead but within two minutes Liverpool levelled as Joleon Lescott diverted Charlie Adam's shot into his own net. Suddenly, the Kop is rocking and this clash, under the lights, has a real big game feel about it."

  • 16'
Greg Stobart: "'Who put the ball in United's net? Half our team did!' chant the 3,000 Manchester City fans in the Anfield Road stand to my right. They have watched the visitors make a bright start here, zipping the ball about nicely and playing at a good tempo. • Minute's silence underway at Anfield.
  • Greg Stobart: "Liverpool have only managed draws in their last three home games but have only lost once to City in the last 12 meetings between the sides. Kenny Dalglish, the Liverpool manager, was understandably delighted with his side's display in the 2-1 win at Chelsea last weekend and has used his programme notes to praise the strength of his squad ahead of the clash with City. He writes: “We go into the match on the back of an excellent win at Chelsea. You always need to play well to win at Stamford Bridge and we were delighted with the attitude, commitment and effort of the 14 players that took part and all of them made a valuable contribution to the victory. “City have a fantastic array of players and are now a real force. They are the ones who are in the position that everybody wants to be in and that's the top of the Barclays Premier League. They've got the wealth and everything that anybody needs to make it a success and are trying their best to do that. “Every fan would love the club they support to be in the same financial position as Manchester City but that's not going to happen, so there's no point in us complaining about what they have got.”
  • Goal.com's Greg Stobart at Anfield: "Welcome to a fresh, blustery afternoon at Anfield where Premier League leaders Manchester City are the visitors and could pull seven points clear of second-placed Manchester United with a victory. All the talk in the press box and in the stands, however, is about the tragic death of Wales manager Gary Speed. Liverpool forward Craig Bellamy, a close friend of Speed's, has been sent home and is not in the hosts' 18-man squad today. The Reds make two changes from the side that started in the 2-1 win at Chelsea last week, with Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson coming in for Bellamy and Maxi Rodriguez. Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has looked to avoid a Champions League hangover by making five changes from the side that lost in Napoli in midweek. Interestingly, Sergio Aguero starts centrally as the focal point of the City attack for the first time."
  • Reds boss Kenny Dalglish has allowed striker Craig Bellamy to miss today’s game after the death of his former teammate and Wales manager Gary Speed this morning.
  • On the subs bench for City are: Pantilimon (GK) Zabaleta, Kolo Toure, De Jong, Johnson, Dzeko, Balotelli
  • The Manchester City starting line-up is as follows: Hart, Richards, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy, Yaya Toure, Barry, Milner, Silva, Nasri, Aguero
  • Liverpool subs: Doni (GK) Kelly, Carragher, Rodriguez, Coates, Spearing, Carroll
  • The Liverpool startling line-up is: Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique, Henderson, Lucas, Adam, Downing, Kuyt, Suarez
  • The last time the two sides met at Anfield, it was a crushing victory for Kenny Dalglish’s men, as an Andy Carroll double and a Dirk Kuyt strike secured all three points before the half time break.
  • A victory will see the Robert Mancini’s side go seven points clear of their local rivals Manchester United at the top of the Premier League.
  • Liverpool can go level on 25 points with fifth placed Chelsea, who they defeated last week at Stanford Bridge, if they can claim all three points at Anfield.
