Serie A Preview: Juventus - Palermo

The Bianconeri are back to form after a brilliant win on Sunday afternoon...

Old Lady Rejuvenated

Juventus' start to the season has been stuttering to say the least but Luigi Del Neri's side must be relieved and now burning with ambition after a 4-0 trouncing of bottom side Udinese in Udine in Serie A on Sunday afternoon.

Juve strikers Fabio Quagliarella and Vincenzo Iaquinta both were on target for the Old Lady and having found their scoring boots, they will be eager to sustain the momentum on Thursday evening, It was the Bianconeri's first win in the league in 2010-11 which has now put them on four points, three behind reigning Italian champions Inter.

"For us, the matches against Palermo and Cagliari are two important ones," Iaquinta told TuttoSport. "We want to win the matches for our supporters, who follow us through thick and thin.

"We know that against Palermo, it will be a tough encounter. They have been through a tough period, where they have struggled to claim points.

"They will be hungry and be seeking to take points off us. We must be ready for them."

In The Bottom Three

At the start of the season Palermo were expected by many observers to fight for a top four finish in a very competitive and even Serie A. However, after the opening three rounds of matches, the Sicilians find themselves third from bottom, having collected just a point.

At the weekend Delio Rossi's side were defeated 2-1 by champions Inter despite going 1-0 up by the half-hour mark. Palermo need to win on Thursday evening to resurrect themselves and Rossi knows that all too well.

"Juventus have gone under a refoundation, getting the perfect players for their coach," the Palermo coach said. "They have wingers that Del Neri wanted and I think this proves the esteem.

"This team (Palermo) doesn't need pressure for sure. We have to believe in the work that we do. We have to believe in each other and the fans have to help sustain us."

The good news for Palermo is that striker Fabrizio Miccoli is back from injury for the clash with Juventus in Turin as Rossi himself claimed, saying, "Miccoli is doing his best to come back as soon as possible.

"With some more points in the league, his return would have been more gradual. In any case, it's now down to me in terms of how I use him."

Quagliarella scored a brilliant goal against Udinese at the weekend and he will again be starting on Thursday evening. The Italy international striker is not one of the best or prolific but the 27-year-old is one of the best available for Juve. Indeed, the former Udinese and Napoli hitman can pop up with crucial goals from time to time.

J. Pastore

Position: Midfielder

Pastore will again have to be the creative fulcrum for Palermo in Turin. The Argentina international hasn't had a great campaign so far but he will have to be the Sicilians' creator-in-chief against a Juventus defence that can fall apart from time to time.
