October 27, 2013
• Juventus Stadium, Torino
Referee: D. Doveri
• Attendance: 38767
A. Vidal 23'
C. Tévez 36'
Juventus stay third in Serie A, level on points with Napoli in second, while Genoa suffer their first defeat under Gasperini. In truth it could have been much more than 2-0 as the hosts were utterly dominant. I've been Tom Maston and thanks for joining me.
The referee blows his whistle and Juventus are back to winning ways with a fairly simple 2-0 win over an under-par Genoa. Vidal's contentious penalty gave them the lead before Tevez marked an excellent display with a well-taken goal. Conte can be very satisfied with his charges.
90' + 2'
Genoa finally create something as Vrsaljko delivers a sumptious cross and Fetfatzidis has a free header in the box. He can't control his effort though and it goes over the bar.
There will be three minutes of stoppage time. Juventus have been comfortable all match and are heading for three points.
A neat dummy by Tevez allows Giovinco to get a strike in on goal, but his effort is well blocked. Juventus just running the clock down now after a comfortable afternoon.
Final change for Juventus as Padoin replaces Vidal in midfield.
Kucka looks to fire in but his effort is into the wall. Set-pieces really haven't been great from either side today.
Opportunity for Genoa to pull one back here as Pirlo fells Centurion and the visitors have a free-kick in a good position...
Almost the icing on the cake for Juventus as Pirlo plays a delightful ball through the heart of the Genoa defence for Tevez to latch onto. The striker looks to take it around Perin but his touch isn't great and the goalkeeper collects.
Giovinco his head in his hands over on the left hand side after Kucka falls on him and kicks him in the face as he goes down under a challenge. All accidental and the striker is eventually back on his feet.
A third and final change for the visitors as Centurion replaces the hard-working Bertolacci.
Opportunity for Genoa to counter-attack as Bonucci gives the ball straight to Kucka. The midfielder traded passes with Fetfatzidis but then loses out with more home players tracking back. Wasted chance for the visitors.
Conte is shuffling his pack now as Llorente makes way, with Giovinco on in his place.
Paolo De Ceglie
That's a bit better from Llorente as he picks up the ball on the edge of the area, cuts inside onto his left foot and drives a powerful effort just over the bar. The home side follow that with their first change as De Ceglie replaces Asamoah.
Barzagli wins the ball on the right before Vidal looks to find Llorente. The Spain striker's touch is poor though and he loses the ball. He hasn't been at his best today.
Pogba wins a free-kick as he wins the ball on the edge of his own area and looks to relieve some pressure. Genoa have certainly improved in the second period without really threatening.
A slight worry for Genoa as Antonini goes down holding his calf after clashing with Pogba. He seems to be OK though and makes his way back onto the pitch.
Half-chance for Vidal as he latches onto Tevez's through ball, but the midfielder's shot is a weak one and Perin can collect.
Despite there only being two goals in it this match already seems to be winding down. Juventus are more than comfortable and seem happy to just keep the ball.
Genoa are certainly looking to get the ball forward more, but they are still to really test Buffon in the Juventus goal.
Tevez and Llorente have both been involved today but have struggled to show they can work as a partnership. A couple of poor passes signal that they are still working on forming a relationship.
Konate has struggled to get into this match since his introduction, but he is at least proving to be an outlet for Genoa. They just need the striker to hold the ball up much better when he gets it and they may have a chance.
Yellow CardIoannis Fetfatzidis
There have been two bookings in this match, and both have been for simulation. Fetfatzidis is the latest to have his name taken as he looks for a penalty with Isla putting him under pressure. The referee gets it right though.
Genoa are still camped inside their own half. Sooner rather than later they are going to have to try and find a way back into this game rather than watch Juventus play the ball around them.
DOUBLE SAVE! Perin has certainly been the visitors' star man today, and he again denies Juventus with a fantastic piece of goalkeeping. He first parries a powerful drive from Tevez before reacting quickly to tip away Llorente's effort from the rebound. Super stuff.
Despite their change in formation Genoa are still struggling to put together any periods of possession. It could be a long second half.
Pirlo finds the wall for the seocond time in this game and Genoa can clear.
Genoa look to be trying to match up Juventus's formation as they revert to three at the back with wing-backs. They could be about to go three down though as Chiellini wins a free-kick on the edge of their area...
Gilardino and Antonelli are the men who have been withdrawn as Genoa chase the game. The visitors then get us back underway. Can they mount a comeback?
Changes are being prepared by Genoa, with Fetfatzidis and Konate being given plenty of instruction at the break. We will see who is replaced as the teams make their way back onto the field.
Genoa may be slightly aggrieved by the contentious nature of the penalty, but in truth they have been poor. Perin and the woodwork have kept the scoreline respectable and they must look to keep the ball better in the second period. I'll be back in ten minutes to see if they can stage a comeback after the break.
The half-time whistle and Juventus can be very satisfied with their first-half showing. Goals from Vidal and Tevez have put them in complete control, and on the balance of play their 2-0 lead is the least they deserve.
Just a single minute of stoppage time at the end of the first half.
Tevez is everywhere now as he fires another effort over the bar from the edge of the area. The opportunity arose when Biondini and Bertolacci got in each other's way on the right-hand side; a moment that summed up Genoa's first half rather well.
Almost a third for Juventus and a second for Tevez. Asamoah is again involved as he swings in low cross from the left that is just too far in front of the Argentina forward.
A bit of concern here for Genoa as Bertolacci stays down after taking a blow to his head. He seems fine though and finally makes his way back onto the field after some treatment.
Genoa looking to come forward as they now look to chase the game, but they cannot find any way through. Gasperini may be forced into changes at the break.
GOAL! Tevez has looked threatening without getting a sight of goal, but he has made no mistake here when he's got his opportunity. Asamoah shows nice skill on the left before laying the ball inside, and the summer signing from Manchester city ghosts past one defender before slotting past Perin. Too easy for the hosts.
The game has certainly slowed down somewhat after a frantic opening half hour. Juventus should have more but they will be happy to be ahead.
A rare effort on goal from Genoa as Marchese lines up a shot from 35 yards. His strike is a poor one though and is well wide of Buffon's goal.
Another chance goes begging as Pogba again misses his opportunity. The midfielder robs Biondini on the edge of the area before cutting inside, but he cannot find the necessary bend to trouble Perin.
Pirlo is taking things up a gear as a sumptious ball forward finds Pogba on the left. The midfielder opts to cross but the ball is well cleared before Llorente can reach it in the middle.
As I type that Genoa almost get in as a Biondini cross from the right almost finds Gilardino in the middle. The Italy striker needs more than just scraps to feed on though.
Genoa just haven't got into this match at all and have almost been spectators as Juventus pass the ball around them. Poor from the visitors so far.
GREAT SAVE! Almost a second for the hosts as Perin again excels himself. A long ball forward sets Tevez free, and the striker does well to wait for support before finding the onrushing Pirlo. The midfielder shows neat feet to get one-on-one with the goalkeeper but cannot find the net with his low placed effort.
Penalty GoalArturo Vidal
GOAL!!! The Chile midfielder is cool as you like as he sends Perin the wrong way in slotting into the left-hand side of the goal. Replays suggest the foul that led to the penalty may have been just outside the box but Juventus don't care. They lead 1-0.
PENALTY! Juventus have been excellent and they have a chance now to take the lead. Asamoah is the man who wins the spot-kick as Biondini needlessly trips the wing-back right on the edge of the area. Vidal the man to step up...
Another chance for the hosts as Chiellini meets a Pirlo corner but his header is too high.
OFF THE BAR! Genoa are camped inside their own box at the moment. Vidal is the latest to try his luck with a powerful drive from 20 yards, and the midfielder is unfortunate to see it bounce back off the crossbar with Perin beaten. Would have been a superb goal.
Only into the wall from the Italy maestro and the visitors eventually clear after a poor cross from Chiellini.
Opportunity here for Juventus as Tevez is tripped by Biondini around 30 yards from goal. A definite foul this time. Pirlo stands over it...
More good interplay from Juventus ends with Tevez getting a shot away. His effort is deflected wide before the resulting corner is cleared. Hosts dominant at present.
GREAT SAVE! Genoa living dangerously here as Perin keeps the scores level. The goalkeeper flaps at a deflected Tevez cross but recovers well to block Llorente's volley from close range. That's two big chances in as many minutes.
GREAT CHANCE! Best opportunity of the opening moments is wasted by Pogba as the France midfielder delays his shot too long and Perin can block at his feet. The former Manchester United man had plenty of time but fluffed his lines.
A first period of possession for Genoa ends when Pogba wins the ball on the left-hand side. The visitors are struggling to get a foothold here.
Juventus are certainly being patient in their build-up, with Chiellini and the rest of the defence seeing plenty of the ball. They are being put under no pressure from the Genoa forwards.
Yellow CardCarlos Tévez
The first booking of the afternoon is a contentious one. Tevez is seemingly tripped 25 yards from goal by Biondini, but instead has his name taken for simulation. No complaints from the striker however.
A first half-chance for the hosts as Pogba does well to keep the move alive before feeding Asamoah. The wing-back swings in a cross but Llorente cannot make enough contact with his header and the ball dribbles harmlessly wide.
The home side have certainly started the brighter and are keeping possession well. No sights of goal as yet though.
Early appeals for a penalty from the home side as Pogba breaks into the box before going down under pressure from Portanova. In truth it was good defending though and the referee waves play on.
The home side kick-off and we are underway...
The two teams have made their way out onto the pitch and we are almost ready for kick-off...
We are just moments from kick-off now in Turin as the Serie A champions look to get back on track. It's matches like this that they must win if they are to catch Roma at the summit and retain their title.
Last weekend's defeat to Fiorentina was La Vecchia Signora's first defeat of the season, and after throwing away a two-goal lead Conte will be hoping for a big reaction from his team. New strikers Tevez and Llorente haven't exactly hit the ground running, having found the net just five times in Serie A, and the home supporters are looking for them to boost their side after a tough week.
On the other hand Genoa have struggled for consistency so far this campaign, winning just two of their first eight league fixtures, and start today's match 16th in Serie A, just three points above the relegation zone.
After Napoli's earlier win over Torino, Conte's side need a win to draw back level with Rafa Benitez's side in second place. They have a 100 percent home league record so far this season, and it would take a brave man to bet against a victory for the hosts this afternoon.
So Juventus make three changes from their 2-1 defeat at Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, as Bonucci, Isla and Asamoah replaces Caceres, Ogbonna and Marchisio in the starting eleven. Meanwhile Genoa make two changes from their win over Chievo last time out.
Genoa: Perin, Antonini, Marchese, Portanova, Manfredini, Vrsaljko, Antonelli, Biondini, Kucka, Bertolacci, Gilardino.
Juventus: Buffon, Chiellini, Bonucci, Barzagli, Isla, Asamoah, Vidal, Pogba, Pirlo, Tevez, Llorente.
Before we head into more build-up, let's take a look at the two starting line-ups the respective coaches have named...
Hello and welcome to live coverage of the Serie A encounter between champions Juventus and Genoa. Antonio Conte's side have stuttered of late after suffering back-to-back defeats against Fiorentina and Real Madrid, but will be confident of getting back to winning ways at the Juventus Stadium. I'm Tom Maston and I'll be guiding you through all the action.
