So just to confirm, Leverkusen move upto second in the table, eight points behind leaders Dortmund who entertain Werder Bremen in just over an hour. Hamburg remain in ninth but can surely say goodbye to any slight hopes of a title challenge. Thank you for joining us today, I hope you have enjoyed this one as much as we have. Be sure to check out all the other action this afternoon on the site. Thank you and you're very welcome to join me, Luke Matthews for live coverage of the Dortmund versus Werder game in an hour. Peace.
FULL-TIME! Fantastic 4-2 victory for Leverkusen here who maintain their unbeaten away record this season in the league. The Rhine club showed some devastating counter-attack football at times while showing a ruthlessness in front of goal that just wasn't there for Hamburg.

Yellow CardRuud Van Nistelrooy

HSV have struggled to get near the Leverkusen area after scoring their second of the afternoon. What could this mean for Hamburg's already inconsistent season?
It's all Bayer at the moment as Derdiyok sees his header brilliantly tipped over the bar by Rost. Luckily for the home side, the corner is wasted.
So Leverkusen are heading into second place at the moment with Mainz not playing until tomorrow.
Another chance for Leverkusen. This time Lars Bender sees his header from Scwaab's cross saved well.
Bayer look like they could score at will at the moment with HSV committing forward. This time Derdiyok is challenged by Demel just as he's about to hit the trigger.
Wow wow wow. Great game we have here in Hamburg. Time is against the home side but who knows what could happen?
4-2! What a second-half! Substitute Heung Min Son crosses the ball to Trochowski who smashes a 20 yard effort off the post before Elia collects the ball from six yards and hits it goalwards. Adler does his best to stop the ball from going over the line but to no avail as the goal stands.
4-1! IT'S RENATO AGAIN! The Brazilian is again played in down the right but who then beats Aogo before making his way towards Rost. The angle is very tight as he attempts to put the ball between the 'keepers legs. He somehow manages to squeeze it between with the ball rebounding off Rost's leg and into the net.
Tomás Eduardo Rincón
Both sides making substitutions now. Bayern looking to consolidate their lead with Hamburg looking to get back into it.
So Bayer appear on course for their sixth away Bundesliga victory of the season which is a brilliant record. Could be nine games unbeaten too if they away side can hold onto their lead which they have done so many times this season.
Another poor challenge. This time Kadlec brings down Pitroipa but the home side waste the resulting set-piece. Leverkusen defending well at the moment.
After some good link-up play between Trochowski and Pitroipa down the left the German international plays a low ball into the Leverkusen six yard box but Adler does well to hold onto the ball with the likes of van Nistlerooy waiting to pounce.
Just to confirm, the flying Dutchman that is Eljero Elia is on for ze Roberto. But is it too late?
3-1! BRILLIANT FINISH BY RENATO AUGUSTO! Castro clips a great ball down the right for the unmarked Brazilian who then makes his way into the box before poking the ball past Rost into the far corner from a tight angle.
The home side are trying to pick theirselves up now but it will be a tough task. Maybe a substitution or two is on the cards?
So hammer blow for Veh's men who had started the second half so well. However Leverkusen were certainly threatening another goal with some bright counter-attacks.
TORR BAYER! The away side take the lead once again from the resulting corner and Vidal makes amends for his earlier own-goal. Barnettta crosses and after the ball bobbles around a little it breaks to Vidal who manages to power a header past Rost and the man on the line. Big goal.
Good play by Renato to dance his way past two HSV defenders into the box. Demel makes a great last ditch challenge to put it out for a corner.
Yellow CardDavid Jarolim
Yellow CardSidney Sam
Jarolim is booked after a challenge on Vidal. There has been a quite a few mistimed challenges and every time one occurs the game threatens to blow up with other players getting involved. This time Sam and Aogo decide to push one another before the ref breaks it up.
Much improved game in the second half. The tempo is certainly quicker with both sides looking for that all important third goal of the game.
This time it's Sam's turn to jinx his way down the right before cutting the ball back to Derdiyok. The young Swiss has a hard task but scoops the ball way over the bar while under pressure from Westermann.
Barnetta shows good pace to beat Benjamin down the left but there's far too much power on his attempted cross with Derdiyok unable to stop the ball going out for a goal-kick.
Hamburg look the better team at the moment and are putting die Werkself's defence under considerable pressure. Pitroipa in particular looks very lively.
Own GoalArturo Vidal
TOR HSV! The home side have started the second half well and get that much needed equaliser. Trochowski's whipped corner appears to be heading towards Westermann but in an effort to clear the ball first, Vidal gets his foot on the ball and volleys it off the post into his own net.
CLOSE FOR HSV! Pitroipa plays the ball back to Trochowski and the diminutive international smashes an effort goaqlwards from 25 yards. The shot leaves Adler sprawling but heads just over the bar.
Guerrero and van Nistlerooy get us underway in the second-half. How can the home side get back into this one? Surely Armin Veh will be looking to make substitutions if his team doesn't improve in the next 10 minutes.
HALF-TIME! Bayer head into the half-time interval with a 1-0 lead courtesy of a smart finish from ex-Hamburg man Sidney Sam. A game of few chances but the away team have taken theirs and are arguably good value for their lead. Be sure to join us for the second half. HSV are sure to come out a little more attacking which will hopefully make for an improved second half.
45' + 1'
Absolutely nothing. Trochowski manages to get the ball over the wall and on target but no power whatsoever on the strike as Adler claims easily.
Free-kick in a great position for HSV here as Castro brings down Guerrero right on the edge of the area. What can the home side do?
Well well well, that was a shocking effort by Renato Augusto. Barnetta pings a ball back to the Brazilian yet his 20 yard volley is not very Brazilian as it heads towards the corner flag.
HSV are seeing a lot of the ball at the moment and Leverkusen seem happy to let them have it. Surely the away side will look to use the pace of Sam and trickery of Barnetta on the counter-attack to cause their opposition more problems.
Great block by Friedrich! Trochowski's low ball looks to have found the lurking van Nistlerooy six yards out but the former Mainz defender makes an excellent block.
Yellow CardCollin Benjamin
Booking for Benjamin for a dangerous lunge on Rolfes. The replacement right-back needs to be more careful with challenges like that. A fairly dirty game so far.
Can Hamburg get back into this one? Remember, Leverkusen have not lost a game this season when they have taken the lead. However there's a first time for everything.
CLOSE FROM HAMBURG! Adler fails to deal with a cross heading towards van Nistlerooy and parries the ball into the path of ze Roberto 15 yards out. The Brazilian attempts to scoop the ball over the 'keepers and Friedrich's head but to no avail, the ball drifts over the bar.
TOR LEVERKUSEN! 1-0 to the away side and it's the former Hamburg man Sidney Sam who grabs the goal. Barnetta this time actually plays a decent ball into the box and Vidal leaps to flick the ball onto Sam. The tricky winger is at a tight angle on the left side of goal but manages to squeeze the ball into the far-right corner. Great finish.
Barnetta whips in a ball from the right but its a poor one and Derdiyok fails to get anywhere near.
Yellow CardMichal Kadlec
Poor effort there by Guerrero. After some patient build-up the ball comes out to the left for the Peruvian who then sees his shot/cross drift wide of the Leverkusen goal.
There has been a lot of bite so far in this one but a lack of quality currently leaves us goalless. The game could really do with a goal.
First shot on goal for Bayer but that was never troubling the veteran Rost. Derdiyok was played in one on one but his effort was tame and saved easily by the 'keepers foot.
Not the greatest of games so far with both managers sure to be looking for more from their respective sides. Interestingly Armin Veh played under Jupp Heynckes at Moenchengladbach in the 1980's.
Opportunity for ze Roberto to whip in a set-piece from the right, Hamburg commit men forward but his cross is poor and cleared by the first man.
First real sight of goal for van Nistlerooy who is played in on the left side of the box by ze Roberto. The veteran predator takes a touch before firing in a low left-footed effort that is no trouble for Adler as it rolls into the side netting.
Yellow CardStefan Reinartz
First booking of the game goes to Reinartz for a flying challenge Guerrero from behind. Needless challenge there with the Peruvian going nowhere.
Very slow start to this one with Leverkusen now seeing more of the ball. Hamburg will be keen to avoid conceding an early goal. Today;s away team have never lost this season after taking the lead.
Jarolim is already getting stuck in on the opposition with a strong challenge on Vidal who is making his 100th Bundesliga appearance today.
Not much happening here so far in terms of chances on goal. Leverkusen look well organised defensively and the home side will have to rely on van Nistlerooy's experience and guile to break through die Werkself's defensive rearguard.
The home side have settled the quicker of the two and are passing the ball around well at the moment.
Leverkusen get us underway here but give the ball away to the home side. Heynckes will be hoping that's not a sign of things to come as Pitroipa fires in the first shot of the game from 20 yards. The ball drifts aimlessly high and wide.
Two very strong starting line-ups here today including the return of both captains, David Jarolim and Simon Rolfes. Surely the battle today will be won in midfield?
Bayer Leverkusen: Adler, Castro, Friedrich, Reinartz, Kadlec, Rolfes, Vidal, Sam, Renato Augusto, Barnetta, Derdiyok
Hamburg: Rost, Benjamin, Demel, Westermann, Aogo, Pitroipa, Jarolim, Ze Roberto, Trochowski, Guerrero, van Nistlerooy
Here come the teams...
Guten tag and welcome to Goal.com's coverage of today's encounter between Hamburg and Leverkusen from the Imtech Arena. The home side have had an indifferent first half of the season and currently sit in ninth. Bayer on the otherhand sit in third place and will be looking to build on this. Both sides will be looking to end 2010 on a high but who will prevail today?
