GOOOOOAAAAAAL FOR BARCELONA! David Villa latches on to a ball over the top of the Getafe defence and controls before expertly slotting home with a left-footed strike past Moya! 4-1! Game over.
Just as the game was winding down we are having a frantic finale here. End to end stuff and I think we have another goal in this game.
Barcelona seeing the match out here. Getafe don't look to be posing much of a threat to Tito Vilanova's men in the closing minutes of the match. Just under five minutes remaining.
Xavi attempts to kill off the hosts with a decent strike from 25 yards but the ball takes a deflection and trickles wide for a corner kick. The grandstand comeback from the hosts doesn't look likely.
Just as the Getafe fans looked to be heading for the exits, Sarabia pops up with a lifeline. Its unlikely, but can they provide an exciting climax to the match here?
Own GoalJavier Mascherano
GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAL FOR BARCELONA!! Pedro sends Montoya down the right and the 21-year-old teases a cross into the centre. Who else but Messi is there to tap home! 3-0 and game over.
Last change of the match from Barcelona as David Villa comes on for Cristian Tello. Villa, Messi, and Mascherano all brought on as substitutes. Not bad.
GOOOOOAAAAAAAL FOR BARCELONA!! Messi steps up and lashes a strike down the middle and although Moya manages to get a hand to it, the ball deflects into the net! 2-0!
Penalty to Barcelona! Pedro twists and turns inside the area and is clipped by the heel of Juan Valera!
Barca having a lot of possession at the moment but the second half has been bereft of out and out goalscoring chances for both sides. Twenty minutes for Getafe to find a response to the Catalans.
Tello latches on to a pass over the top down the right flank and drives forward with his lightning pace but again his touch lets him down in the final third. He has been disappointing tonight.
Penalty shout for Barcelona!!! Ohh that looked like a definite spot-kick! Messi drives into the box and takes a touch by Miguel Torres but the Getafe man slides in from behind! The referee waves play on! Messi is incensed!
Barca kicking it up a gear now. The introduction of Messi has has injected some pace and dynamism into the attacks of the away side.
Yellow CardJuan Valera
Cesc has dropped into Thiago's position in midfield and Messi has expectedly occupied the 'False 9' position.
Getafe follow suit and make a change of their own. Adrian Colunga will be replaced by summer signing Alvaro Vasquez in attack.
The sight that Getafe fans and players did not want to see. Here comes Lionel Messi and the Argentine will replace Thiago.
Tello drives down the left and cuts inside before opening his body and attempting to curl the ball into the far corner but Moya makes a fantastic save to deny the Barcelona man!
Sorry folks I spoke to soon. Puyol has went down again and he won't be able to continue. Javier Mascherano is his replacement.
The Barcelona captain has returned to the action, much to the relief, I'm sure, of Tito Vilanova.
Some concern for Barcelona at the moment as Carles Puyol is currently down with an injury. It looked like he twisted his knee sharply as he went down. Thankfully, however, he manages to walk off the park. It looks as if he'll be okay.
Getafe have started the half well. They are pressing high up the park much like they did in the opening stages of the match.
Diego Castro picks up the ball on the edge of the Barca box and attempts a shot at goal but it goes horribly wide to the left. Good build-up play but the move lacked the final product.
The second half is underway in Madrid. Getafe have a lot of work to do to save this game but Barca have not been at their fluent best so far. A fascinating half in store here.
Half time in Madrid. A solitary goal from Adriano is the difference at the moment as Barcelona lead Getafe 1-0. They don't need Messi at the moment, but will we see him in the second period? Join us in 15 minutes for the second half!
Barcelona patiently seeing out the half now. They are playing the ball around effortlessly across the park and Getafe seem to be happy to go into half time with just a one goal deficit.
Thiago, who has been Barcelona's brightest player, spreads the play to the right-hand side for Tello who lets the ball slip under his feet for a Getafe throw. The Barca youngster has been poor this half, his touch has been sub-par.
The ball is whipped in to the six-yard-box and Lopo, with the goal at his mercy, misses his header completely! Great chance squandered by the hosts and Barcelona clear the ball up the park.
Free kick in an excellent position for Getafe. Colunga took on Pique on the left-hand side of the box and the Barca man hangs a leg out to commit the foul.
What a save from Moya!! Thiago expertly chests the ball down at the back post and attempts to poke a strike into the near post but the Getafe goalkeeper makes an outstanding save to his left to turn the ball round the post!
GOOOOOAAAAAAAL FOR BARCELONA!!! Adriano scores in consecutive games! Fabregas makes a strong run through the middle of the Getafe defence and a couple of weak challenges see the ball fall at the feet of the Brazilian who strides forward and coolly finishes into the bottom right corner!
Barrada finds space on the left and stands a high cross to the back post for Pedro Leon. The former Real Madrid man attempts a controlled, side-footed volley at goal but Valdes collects close to his chest.
Xavi attempts to take the game by the scruff of the neck and drives forward at pace down the middle. He screws a shot towards goal from 25 yards but it is comfortable for Moya, who saves comfortably.
Intricate passing inside the Getafe area from Barcelona. The ball finds its way to Adriano to the left who attempts a half-volley at goal that deflects wildly over the bar. Corner to Barca.
BARCA HIT THE BAR!!! Thiago jinks between challenges on the edge of the area and unleashes a powerful shot from 18 yards that clips the top of the woodwork! Getafe let off the hook!
The free kick is whipped in at pace to the near post but Victor Valdes was fully concentrated and managed to smother the ball as it bounced in front of him. Good save.
First yellow card of the match as Sergio Busquets brings down Barrada just outside the box. The booking looked to be more for the aggressive reaction to the decision from Busquets than for the actual tackle.
Thiago shows some neat touches in the final third and attempts to burst forward through the middle put Michel makes an excellent challenge just before the Brazilian was set to release Pedro down the right.
Getafe are not without threat themselves. Colunga looks sharp in attack and is his putting in a shift in an attempt to close Pique and Puyol down when they have possession.
Two or three times now, Cristian Tello has found himself on the left one-on-one with a defender. He has attempted to utilize his pace down the flank but every time has has lost the ball with a heavy touch. He'll need to do better. He has looked bright but his final product must be better.
Central free kick for Barcelona. Xavi dinks the ball into the Getafe area and Puyol rises high and attempts to flick it on. There are no takers for Barca as the ball drops, however, and Getafe manage to punt the ball to safety.
Cesc drops deep to the outside of the Getafe box and aims to chip the ball through to Xavi who finds himself as the furthest player forward. The pass was slightly behind him though and Getafe manage to clear.
Half-hearted penalty shout for Getafe as Martin Montoya tangles legs with Adrian Colunga inside the area. Looked purely accidental and the referee appears to see it that way.
Barca, typically, have began to dominate possession in the middle of the park. The Catalan side looks particularly determined in the opening minutes of the match. With one eye perhaps on Spartak Moscow on Wednesday, perhaps Vilanova has urged his men to take an early lead so fitness can be saved in the latter stages.
With the absence of Messi, the Barcelona fans could be forgiven for being weary about the untested front three of Cesc, Tello, and Pedro. However, the early signs are good as they look very sharp in the final third.
Both side's giving their all in the early stages. A lot of intense pressing going on in the midfield are but its unlikely that this will continue for much longer.
And we are off in Madrid!
And perhaps just as fascinating: With the exception on Adriano, the entire Barcelona starting XI are La Masia graduates. Truly incredible.
A fascinating stat here: Out of the 22 players who will start the match tonight, 20 are Spanish. A true reflection of the calibre of home-grown players in the Spanish Primera Division.
Don't count out the introduction of Messi later on in the game if things aren't going Barcelona's way, however.
That's right, Lionel Messi starts the match on the bench. The Argentine has covered a lot of air miles this past week after being on international duty, so perhaps Tito Vilanova has offered a rest to the 25-year-old.
This is the starting XI of Barcelona. There is a fairly noticeable omission from the line-up of the Catalans: Valdes; Montoya, Puyol, Pique, Adriano; Xavi, Busquets, Thiago; Pedro, Cesc, Tello
The teams are in and this is how Getafe will be lining up tonight: Moya; Valera, Alexis, Abraham, Miguel Torres; Míchel, Xavi Torres; Barrada, Diego Castro, Pedro Leon; Colunga
I'm Martin Macdonald, and I'll be taking you through the action this evening.
