His main concern seemed to be in collecting stray balls as Milan's strike force had so many near-misses. Made a good fingertip stop on an Ibrahimovic header though.
When not attempting overhead clearances with Milan players on his back he was turning in a fairly solid display, though he offered enough space for Milan to have scored more than just once.
Should have done better as Pato put the Rossoneri ahead, but improved somewhat thereafter. Helped out by the deep support of the Grifone midfield.
Still doesn't convince as a left back, but was happy enough on the rare occasions he got forward with the ball at his feet.
Fed through a delicious ball for Floro Flores despite being under pressure from two men as Genoa levelled on the stroke of half-time. Put in an excellent shift to show he's firmly back as a Grifone player.
Is there a player with more commitment in Serie A? A real heart-on-sleeve professional who helped to break up Milan's long periods of pressure through sheer force of effort.
Still one of Genoa's most vital components, despite all the comings and goings of the past eight months. His desire on the run and his set piece threat kept Milan honest throughout.
Brought discipline and desire to the right back role as he gave his side plenty of width and helped to snuff out many of Flamini's better moments.
Found it tough to keep up at times as Milan's slick passing game tended to bypass the Genoa midfield. He'll have better games for the Rossoblu.
Had to exit all too early due to injury.
A. Floro Flores
Provided a real figurehead for Genoa's play which has been missing for too long. Together with his goal threat, he added something new, and took his goal very well.
Didn't have to make too many outstanding saves, but was forced to be on his toes rather often, as Floro Flores, Paloschi and Rossi all troubled.
Back in his rightful spot of centre-back he looked at ease when pulling across to snuff out dangers, particularly in the second half when his side gambled more and more.
Got down the right pretty well, but his crosses were too hit and miss, and he was often exposed in behind, particularly by Palacio.
Something of a liability still at times, and Milan continue to come up short in the search for a long-term solution at left back.
Continues his decent run, though he did allow Floro Flores to drop off him once too often.
Not as convincing on the left of the three as he is on the right, but got forward well in the channels to cause some real headaches at times.
When does he not get his job done in midfield? Provided the brawn behind the attacking brains, but seemed to run out of energy on his return to action.
M. van Bommel
Played the pivot role as well as you'd expect, and was forever directing the troops with great authority. He's yet to finish a Milan game anywhere but at the Marassi.
Fired home the opener during a spell in which he and Robinho looked like bagging four each. But he went missing a bit in the second half, and a Milan winner looked most likely to come from Ibrahimovic and Cassano.
It was probably easier to score than miss when he fired over early on, but he linked well with Pato thereafter without ever convincing in front of goal.
Just not his day, and it looked it towards the end as his head began to drop. So many near-killer passes went astray, he hit the wall with a decent free-kick chance, and Eduardo tipped away his header from his tip-toes.
- 73 A. Scarpi
Brought on in stoppage time.
- 24 E. Moretti
- 42 Miguel Veloso
Replaced Floro Flores and caused almost as many problems, very nearly pouncing when Yepes stood off him.
To say an early introduction wasn't part of their original plans, he still seemed to play the substitute role late on as he stretched MIlan left and right on the counter.
- 30 F. Roma
- 15 S. Papastathopoulos
- 18 M. Jankulovski
- 10 C. Seedorf
- 52 A. Merkel
Played a bit part late on and failed to have the required decisive impact on the game.
Created some headaches after coming on, but his afternoon was summed up when he ran the ball out in stoppage time... it was all about if onlys.
