Galatasaray-Real Madrid Preview: Blancos hunt La Decima

Carlo Ancelotti's side begin their assault on another crown with a potentially tricky trip to Turkey on Tuesday

Real Madrid were dumped out of the Champions League by Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals last season but will fancy their chances of lifting the trophy for a 10th time this term.

With Carlo Ancelotti now at the helm, los Blancos have enjoyed a fruitful summer of recruitment, with
Isco, Asier Illarramendi and Gareth Bale the club's stand out signings over the summer.

Madrid will have to do without midfielder Xabi Alonso who remains on the sidelines with a broken foot, while Ancelotti confirmed Iker Casillas will start his first game of the season having been displaced by Diego Lopez.

Galatasaray ended their 12-match winless streak against Spanish opposition when they played Real in the quarter-finals last season, as they recorded a 3-2 home victory that ultimately proved in vain as Mourinho's men progressed 5-3 on aggregate.

With Ronaldo on a run of 21 goals in his previous 19 Champions League matches, the Turkish side face a tough challenge in securing a repeat success.

Yet Galatasaray do boast a fine recent record in Istanbul, losing only two of their last 14 home European matches.

The Turkey international was among the top marksmen in the Champions League last term, and though he may not be as high profile as the likes of Didier Drogba or Wesley Sneijder, he will be absolutely key to his side's chances of pulling off an upset.

G. Bale

Position: Midfielder

Whether he will start is up for debate due to his fractured pre-season, but the world's most expensive player began his Madrid career with a goal at Villarreal on Saturday night, and with his every move under close scrutiny, Bale will be looking to commence this Champions League campaign in style.

Editor's Prediction

Madrid struggled to garner a positive result here last season, but their performance in the first leg ultimately saw them through and they will be desperate to hit the ground running in a group that also contains the danger of Juventus.
