A quiet first half although he made a vital touch from an Anderson corner to deny Phil Jones. Was beaten by Powell's header but saved by his crossbar and saved well from Anderson again after the break.
Not much went past him although he was beaten for pace by Welbeck just before the break. A few nervy moments as United piled on the pressure looking for an equaliser but held firm.
The former Arsenal man had few problems at the back and was a threat at the other end. A great ball handed Melo a superb headed chance just before the goal and he almost scored himself with a deflected shot which had Lindegaard scrambling.
Booked early on for a flying challenge on Buttner but otherwise very little ruffled him
Was in particularly feisty mood and somehow managed to escape a booking in the first half despite late fouls on Powell, Buttner and Cleverley. Almost scored just seconds before the opener with a great header but was brilliantly denied by Lindegaard.
The captain was a threat, particularly at set-pieces where his delivery caused some anxious moments in the United defence. Set up Burak twice in the first half and provided the corner from which the striker opened the scoring.
A familiar face to Manchester United, thanks to his time at Liverpool, played at left-back but got forward to good effect and forced Lindegaard into a good save with a super strike just after the break.
Looked a threat on the right and almost scored a sensational goal with 10 minutes to go when he rattled the bar with a thunderous effort.
Another player with Premier League experience who worked hard. His flick-on set up Burak in the first half but otherwise he had little impact on the game.
Gave Rafael an increasingly torrid time, particularly after the Brazilian had been booked. Put in a busy shift and was given a huge ovation when he was replaced late on.
Having scored all of Galatasaray's Champions League goals so far this season it was little surprise to see him open the scoring with a towering header. Might have had more but was wasteful in the first half and rightly booked for diving in the second.
A few unconvincing moments yet again but produced a superb instinctive save to deny a diving Melo. Could do little about the goal but had a busy night and made several important stops.
Found it tough going against Amrabat, especially after he had been booked. Was on the line as Burak powered home the opener but could not reach it to head clear.
Dealt relatively well with Altintop, although he was helped out by Cleverley. Got forward when he could but a solid shift at left-back.
His first appearance of the season after injury and unsurprisingly looked a little rusty. Did well to keep up with an Amrabat break on the half hour and can be pleased with his return to action.
Scored the winner in the reverse fixture but found himself at centre-back with Phil Jones this time around. Not his favoured position of course, but a decent display by the captain.
Had to drop really deep to help out his defence, particularly Rafael and had a busy night.
A real bright spark in the Manchester United midfield. His passing was quick and neat and he supplied the corner from which Powell hit the bar.
Has impressed in patches this season and really tried to drive United forwards after they had gone behind. Had two efforts on goal but could not find a way past Muslera and was replaced on 73 minutes.
A confident Champions League debut from Powell who was playing Morecambe a year ago. Tried to join the front two when he could and almost capped it with a goal but his header flew back off the crossbar.
A very quiet night indeed for the Mexican. Handed a great chance to equalise on the hour mark but just took an extra touch which allowed his shot to be blocked. Had a couple of half chances late on, but could not find a way past Muslera.
A lively display by Welbeck, who has seen his first-team chances limited recently. Harried the Galatasaray defenders, kept the ball well and made a superb run in the first half going past three men.
