Full time in Istanbul and Galatasaray secure the three points after a very close and hard-fought encounter. The match was far more entertaining than the low-scoring results suggests, but all that matters is that Gala are still in with a shout of qualifying.
90' + 2'
It looks like Gala may have done enough here tonight. Cleverley plays a high ball for King and he heads the ball on, but Macheda is offside.
Young's corner is a bit of a floater that seems to hang in the air, but after the referee spotted Hernandez impeding Muslera, he pointed for a free kick.
Corner for United as Hernandez lures in the left-back before slipping in King. The youngster fires in a good cross, but it it put behind.
United having a final push for an equaliser and it almost came. Macheda's persistence pays off as he steals the ball in the area and squees a ball through to Hernandez, but Eboue knocks it away.
Buttner does well to find Young over Eboue, but the England international wastes a good chance as he puts the ball through the defender's legs and hurls himself to the floor.
United make their third change of the night as Joshua King comes on for Danny Welbeck. The young Norwegian has immense pace.
The home side are now attempting to play keep-ball as they look to run the clock down, but they don't do a very good job of it as they put it out for a throw-in in the United half.
Wasteful from the visitors, yet again. United played the free kick short instead of pumping it into the area and it comes to nothing, while Galatasaray looked to spring a counterattack.
United win a free kick just inside their opponents' half as Jones broke forward only to be bundled to the floor by Inan.
What a strike by Altintop! Gala had possession down the left and Amrabat cut the ball back to the former Real Madrid man who let rip. The ball flew towards the top corner of the goal, but crashed down of the crossbar and United cleared.
Yellow CardBurak Yılmaz
Less than savoury play by Burak as he gets into the area and then proceeds to fall to the floor like a sack of spuds. Jones is not happy and the referee books the Turk.
Rafael is walking a tightrope as he commits another foul. From the resulting delivery, a Burak header goes narrowly wide, but Lindegaard, had it covered.
We may have another delay here now. Hernandez flicked on a long-ball for Welbeck, but after being crowded out, the England forward pressured Muslera. The goalkeeper collected the ball and then decided to roll around despite minimal contact from Welbeck.
After a short delay due to an Inan knock, Gala are back on the offensive, but after skipping past Buttner Altintop goes for goal, only for his effort to be blocked.
They may be losing, but one cannot fault the attitude of the United players. Many were expecting them to be intimidated by the atmosphere, but there have been no such signs yet.
United certainly look far more dangerous in attack than they did in the first half. This time the ball drops to Powell and he plays a delicate half-volleyed pass over the defence for Hernandez, but instead of hitting it first time, he takes a touch which allows Riera to get a foot in.
Great move by Galatasaray. They keep possession very well in the centre before Inan spots Eboue's run down the right. The Ivorian latches on to a pass played behind Buttner and cuts a ball back from the byline, but no one is there to meet it.
And so ends a period of play where United had three corners, but they were all so poor by Anderson that they resulted in very little. Sir Alex Ferguson was far from happy, and understandably.
United are getting closer. The ball was put back into the danger area where Anderson, Welbeck and Hernandez were waiting, and the Brazilian just managed to get a shot in, but it goes behind for a corner.
Anders Lindegaard is forced into another good save. Eboue charged forward before shooting, but his effort was deflected and seemed to be heading for the far side of the goal, but Lindegaard tips it round the post. Galatasaray's corner comes to nothing.
Good chance for United goes begging. A clever pass in between two defenders sets Welbeck free down the right. He cuts in side and finds Hernandez, but the Mexican's first touch wasn't great and his shot is deflected wide before being swept up by Semih.
United looking to reply immediately, but whenever they have the ball, they are whistled and booed by almost the entire stadium. Galatasaray are looking far less nervous.
In truth, Galatasaray probably deserve the lead as they have forced Lindegaard into a good performance so far. It will be interesting to see how this young United team responds.
GOAL!!! Galatasaray take the lead against Manchester United! Altintop's corner was fizzed in towards the far post and Burak Yilmaz heads it into the top corner of the net.
Great save by Lindegaard as Melo arrives late and heads Eboue's cross on goal, but the Dane palms it over.
Galatasaray attacking with intent at the moment and have plenty of numbers forward.
Jones almost makes a mess at the back as he plays a pass against Elmander, but luckily for him it doesn't get too far from him and he clears properly.
Good strike by Riera! Eboue's advanced throw-in is worked out to Riera, about 30 yards out, and the Spaniard fires in a volley, but Lindegaard catches it down to his right.
Galatasaray's first meaningful attack of the second half unsurprisingly comes down their left. Amrabat does well to hold off Rafael before turning him and marching on. He gets into the area and tries to cross, but it is blocked back on to him by Jones and it goes out for a goal kick. Rafael has to be careful.
Off we go for the second half.
45' + 1'
The referee blows his whistle to bring an end to the first half, with Emmanuel Eboue rolling around in pain.
Galatasaray looking for a final bout of pressure in this first half, but they give possession away cheaply in United's half.
Nick Powell hits the bar! Cleverley produced an excellent delivery from the corner and it found its way all the way to the far post where Powell arrived late to head the ball against the crossbar.
Fantastic play by Welbeck as he out-paces Nounkeu down the right, then cuts into the area, beating three players in the process and before Powell wins a corner.
Gala back on the front foot, but Altintop's attempted cross is blocked well by Buttner.
Waste of a set-piece for United. Anderson takes it short to Cleverley before receiving it back again and crossing, but it is effectively cut out by the first man. That has been United's problem in this match so far, the final ball.
Another Galatasaray attack breaks down and Powell tries his luck from range, looking to produce a trademark strike, but it deflects over for a corner, again.
The Brazilian curls the corner in and Muslera is forced to get his fingertips to it, sending it round the far post for another corner, but this one comes to nothing.
Anderson takes the free kick on the right wing but it goes behind for a Manchester United corner. Anderson to take.
Anderson breaks out of the area and finds Hernandez who skips round Nounkeu before getting hauled down on the right. United free kick.
Good save by Lindegaard! Altintop gets the ball on the edge of the area and fires low and hard, but the Dane saves down to his right. Seconds later Inan is claiming for a penalty after supposed handball by Buttner, but nothing is given and United counter.
Amrabat is definitely being used more since Rafael picked up his yellow card. The tricky Moroccan seems their best bet at creating chances, with the Turks offering precious little down their right-hand side.
United found themselves in a spot of bother then. After wasting a free kick in a decent area, Galatasaray broke with effect as Amrabat held off Jones and then went down under the pressure of the defender in the area. He immediately got back up and crossed, but Lindegaard punched it away.
Powell harshly penalised as he used his strength to keep Melo from the ball before spinning round him, but the referee saw a foul.
United certainly aren't being dominated, but whenever they do break forward, they are not getting enough bodies in advanced positions, generally. When they do, the service to Hernandez and Welbeck has been poor.
Yet again Powell plays a lofted ball towards Hernandez, but as before it was poor, being hit way too long and it is easy pickings for Muslera.
Amrabat certainly seems insistent on scoring from range as he has another attempt from well outside the area, but again it takes a deflection and is easy for Lindegaard.
Good spell by United as they knock the ball around well in midfield before breaking forward, but as has been the case so far, the final ball from Cleverley was far from good enough and it rolls through to Muslera.
Good chance for Gala! The free kick was whipped in with pace and Yilmaz flicked it on, but his header sailed just over.
Free kick to Galatasaray on the left flank after Rafael tripped Amrabat. He'll be in for a tough evening now up against the Moroccan.
In the end the corner comes to nothing, but it could have produced so much more. The ball somehow went over the United defence and looked to drop to Yilmaz, but he completely missed his header from two yards out as the ball drops over him.
Galatasaray are straight back on the attack as Altintop gets away from Buttner before crossing. Lindegaard punches it as far as Amrabat who jinks past Rafael and shoots, but Carrick nods it behind.
Good play by Anderson as he evades an Inan challenged then bursts away from Altintop. The Brazilian then looked to pick out Hernandez in the area, but Riera just stretched to head it away.
Nick Powell robbed Melo of the ball in the centre and the visitors surged towards the area. Powell found Welbeck, who in-turn picked out Powell again, but Kaya did well to stick a foot in and clear.
The match appears to have settled into a pattern as Galatasaray control possession while United look to spring counterattacks, and it nearly worked perfectly.
Offside flag up against Nordin Amrabat as the Moroccan tried ghosting in behind the United defence, but ultimately failing. United have not looked troubled at the back yet.
United win a free kick on the left as Buttner tricks his way past Melo before being fouled. In the ensuing attack Cleverley's ball over the top is headed clear.
Welbeck involved again as he loses possession to Altintop, but he battles back and gets the ball again, leaving the midfielder in a heap. The forward then tried to find Hernandez, but the pass was poor.
Yellow CardSemih Kaya
First yellow card of the game, and Galatasaray are lucky not to be down to ten men. Alex Buttner cleverly escaped the attentions of two men in his own half before stretching for the ball, getting clattered by Semih Kaya in the process. The Turk went in two-footed, but he gets only a yellow.
United back on the attack, however. Welbeck finds himself in behind Eboue and cuts the ball back into the danger area, but no United player is near it. Galatasaray nearly make a meal of the clearance, but it is dealt with in the end.
United struggling to get any meaningful possession at the moment. A break looks to be on as Danny Welbeck controls the ball in the centre circle, but Melo bullies him off the ball.
The home side have their first shot of the match thanks to some bizarre defending by Phil Jones. The defender attempted to pick Rafael out, but his dreadful pass is headed back to Felipe Melo who shoots from long range. Lindegaard spills the shot and Jones smashes it clear.
The first chance of the match falls to Manchester United, but they can't make the most of it. A poor pass is intercepted by United and the ball is worked out to Danny Welbeck on the left. He squares the ball inside for Tom Cleverley, but his shot is deflected into the arms of Muslera.
Galatasaray are certainly pressing very high early on, with Anders Lindegaard in the United goal already having several touches.
We are underway in Istanbul as Galatasaray kick off.
Phil Jones makes his first appearance of the season, coming in for Rio Ferdinand, while Patrice Evra is replaced by Alex Buttner at left-back. Anderson and Tom Cleverley both come back into the team as Ryan Giggs and Ashley Young make way, while Chris Smalling is replaced by Darren Fletcher. In attack, Danny Welbeck starts alongside Javier Hernandez and Nick Powell makes his Champions League debut.
Manchester United also suffered a surprise loss at the weekend, but with the Red Devils already through to the next round of the Champions League, Sir Alex Ferguson has made seven changes.
The home side have made four changes from the team that lost 3-1 at home to Karabukspor at the weekend. In defence Semih Kaya comes in for Cris, while Hakan Balta is replaced by Albert Riera, potentially filling in at left-back. In midfield Emre Colak drops out for Nordin Amrabat and former Bolton man Johan Elmander replaces Umit Bulut in attack.
Manchester United: Lindegaard; Rafael, Jones, Carrick, Buttner; Fletcher; Anderson, Powell; Cleverley; Welbeck, Hernandez. Subs: Jonhstone, Wootton, Young, Macheda, Vermijl, Cole, King.
First of all, the teams. Galatasaray: Muslera; Eboue, Semih, Nounkeu; Hamit Altıntop, Selçuk İnan, Felipe Melo, Riera; Amrabat, Elmander, Burak Yılmaz. Subs: Ufuk Ceylan, Cris, Birinici, Kurtulus, Baytar, Colak, Bulut
