• MAGE SOLAR Stadion, Freiburg im Breisgau
Referee: P. Gagelmann
• Attendance: 24000
S. Kehl 58'
I'm Alex Moretto and I'd like to thank you all for joining me here today as Borussia Dortmund leap four points ahead of Bayer Leverkussen in second place. Good bye!
FULL-TIME: FREIBURG 0-1 BORUSSIA DORTMUND. Sebastian Kehl gives the visitors three points with his second half wonder strike. Freiburg will feel hard done by after the first half, and will consider themselves unlucky to have come away with nothing after putting in such a strong performance.
90' + 3'
90' + 3'
A substitution coming now for Dortmund as they waste the final seconds off the clock...
90' + 2'
Three glorious chances for Dortmund, who somehow don't yet have a second goal! Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang and Grosskreutz all in on goal. The Armenian is dispossessed while the others can't beat Baumann with their shots!
We're reached the 90th minute. The referee's assistant signals two minutes of stoppage time as a long balls goes astray, rolling out for a Dortmund goal kick.
UNBELIEVABLE! What a wasted opportunity for Dortmund on the counter! Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan break in two-on-one, but the Gabon international can't pick him out with the pass, when he probably should have shot. With Baumann out of his net, the ball rolls to the substitute Hofmann but he blasts it over the bar!
Dortmund finally string a few passes of their own together on attack, but Kehl, perhaps inspired by his goal, tries a shot from 25 yards out that rolls slowly wide at the neat post. Very hopeful from the BVB captain.
Instinctive save from Weidenfeller! Piszczek scuffs on a clearance attempt allowing Mehmedi to chase a bouncing ball in the box. Weidenfeller is out with safe hands to collect, but he did get rather fortunate on the bounce there, as a slightly higher bounce could have spelled disaster for Dortmund!
Freiburg being urged on here by the fans! They looked more like scoring when it was 0-0. Dortmund are clogging the midfield well, and Freiburg are struggling to find space on the ball.
Dortmund are starting to get more aggressive in midfield, forcing the hand of Freiburg. Hummels and Kehl both intercept forward passes, and make it very difficult for the hosts to push forward as we enter the final 10 minutes.
Mehmedi charges in now on what looks like a promising attack for Freiburg. He has options in the middle, but holds onto it far too long, again conceding possession. Third time the Swiss international has turned the ball over in an attacking position in the last 10 minutes.
STAT ATTACK: Freiburg’s four wins are tied for fewest in the league this season with Nurnberg and Braunschweig.
Schuster down and in considerable pain after Grosskreutz stomped on his leg, unintentionally. Both teams use the stoppage to make a substitution, the second for Dortmund, and the third and final one for Freiburg.
Again Mehmedi wastes a good opportunity! He gets into some great positions with his dribbling skills, but again tries to do to much and turns it over.
Another substitution for Freiburg as German under-20 international Felix Klaus comes on to add some real firepower to the hosts in attack. Freiburg certainly are going for it here.
STAT ATTACK: Dortmund have won four of their last five Bundesliga matches, after winning just one of their previous seven (2D, 4L).
Dortmund are uncharacteristically lacking quality on attack. Aubameyang gets into space but his touch fails him as Schuster tracks back to dispossess him. Schieber starts up another attack, but is completely out-muscled by Krmas.
The 31-year-old Oliver Kirch comes on to settle things in the midfield, a Nuri Sahin gives way. It's just the second appearance of the season for Kirch, his first coming in this season's reverse fixture against Freiburg.
Mehmedi shows his skill, side stepping two defenders and getting into a shooting position. One touch too many from the striker, however, as he can't get a shot off and concedes possession.
Great chance for Freiburg shortly after the restart. Gunter dispossesses Kehl at the top of the box, and runs the length of the pitch on the counter only to be let down by his final ball as he tried to pick out either striker inside the box.
Assist Kevin Großkreutz
Goal Sebastian Kehl
GOOOOOOOOAL! Unbelievable finish from Sebastian Kehl who latches onto a ball and hits it first time from 30 yards out, lofting it over the head of the keeper and just under the bar! Dortmund have their lead out of nothing.
Freiburg looking increasingly dangerous with each attack. First Zulechner is picked out at the top of the box, but his shot is blocked by Hummels. Gunter then picks out Mehmedi with a ball over the top, and the Swiss striker beats Sokratis, but his cross is sniffed out well by Hummels who again is there to bail out his center-back partner.
Schieber with two glorious chances that he can't convert! First Aubameyang plays him in, but he isn't quick enough to latch onto the end of the ball, rather lazily going after the pass. Then Mkhitaryan delivers a low cross that he somehow puts wide of the goal.
Great defending from Sorg who reads Mkhitaryan well to intercept his pass and sniff out a dangerous looking Dortmund attack.
Schieber makes a nice run but can't pick out a pass with plenty of options around him. Schuster gives it right back to Dortmund, however, and Grosskreutz finds Schieber again in the box as he cannons a shot just wide of the near post.
The corner is cleared, and the ball is played all the way back to Weidenfeller who smartly charged out to beat Mehmedi to the ball.
Dortmund get the second half underway and charge forward right from the start. Grosskreutz makes a run into the box but has his shot blocked and behind for a corner.
The players slowly make their way back out onto the pitch as we get set to start the second half.
Perhaps Dortmund are missing Lewandowski more than we know. The Polish striker has scored 10 goals in seven all-time matches against Freiburg, failing to find the back of the net only once.
HALF-TIME: FREIBURG 0-0 BORUSSIA DORTMUND. The hosts will be thrilled with their performance in the first half, looking the more dangerous of the two teams. They will, however, consider themselves cheated out of two big decisions from the referee, first not to award a penalty on Sokratis' handball, then allowing the central defender to escape a poor challenge with only a yellow card. Dortmund will likely look to take a few more chances on attack in the second half, but seem to be struggling as a long list of injuries begins to show its effects.
45' + 1'
Freiburg play out the final moments of the half in the Dortmund end, and eventually turn the ball over prompting Peter Gagelmann to blow the half-time whistle.
After a couple minuted of both teams talking to the referee, the free kick is wasted by Freiburg as the referee signals one minute of added time at the end of the first half.
Yellow Card Sokratis Papastathopoulos
More controversy! Zulechner is in on Sokratis and manages to tip the ball past the defender who is having a nightmarish half. Sokratis slides in taking down Zulechner who was through on goal! The referee has a big decision to make but decides only to give a yellow card. It sure looked like a clear goalscoring opportunity, which has the Freiburg players up in arms yet again.
Great defending from the Freiburg captain! Scheiber is played in on the left, but tries to cut it back from a bad angle but the captain tracks back well to clear. Hummels fouls Zulechner on the clearance and Freiburg relieve the pressure.
Aubameyang is nearly played through now as Dortmund pass it around the edge of the area, but his final touch lets him down as Baumann instinctively comes out of his net to collect and sniff out the danger.
CLAIMS FOR A PENALTY! Gunter crosses a ball into the box, and it's chested down into the path of Darida whose shot appears to be blocked by the hand of Sokratis. The replay would also indicate this is the case, as the arm of the center-back prevents the ball from reaching the goal, but no penalty is awarded, much to the dismay of Freiburg.
So close for Freiburg! Schmid makes a great run down the left and picks out Zulechner in the box. The striker can't get enough on the header however, and the chance goes begging.
Yellow Card Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Mkhitaryan is shown yellow now, deservedly, as he trips up Schmid in midfield after a giveaway, preventing a dangerous attack from starting up.
It's Freiburg passing it around at the moment, but a giveaway in midfield leaves Dortmund will the ball in a promising position. Good pressing from the hosts forces BVB to pass it all the way back to Weidenfeller, very uncharacteristic of the Champions League runner-ups.
Very good defending from Pavel Krmas as he turns aside Julian Scheiber after he broke down the left. The striker looks for a cross, but can't beat Krmas who turns it out for a corner kick. The ensuing cross is cleared from danger yet again from Freiburg.
Dangerous looking counter from Freiburg, as Mehmedi charges at the defence with options to either side. A heavy touch, however, allows Sokratis to lunge forward and just clear the danger. A bit of a let down there from Freiburg's point of view.
Very clumsy challenge from Julian Scheiber, as he goes hard into the back of Matthas Ginter near the corner flag. Somehow the striker escapes with only a warning, which has Christian Streich up in arms at the decision not to show a yellow card.
Yellow Card Gelson Fernandes
Feisty play from the hosts in the midfield has left Dortmund without answers through the opening stages of the half. They can't find the space they are looking for in midfield, with nothing coming easy for them at the moment.
STAT ATTACK: Freiburg have averaged fewer than a goal per game this season in the Bundesliga, scoring 22 in 23 games. Only Braunschweig (19) have scored fewer.
Freiburg push forward yet again, with the crowd urging them on. A pass into the box intended for Mehmedi is intercepted well by Hummels however and cleared. The hosts certainly aren't lacking in confidence in the early stages, attempting to match Dortmund pass for pass.
First chance for Dortmund! Some good passing as Hummels' searching ball is flicked on by Mkhitaryan, and chested down into the path of Aubameyang by Scheiber. The Gabon international is let down by his final shot, however, as it's behind for a goal kick.
BVB look to regain control, and push forward through Mkhitaryan. The Armenian is toppled over by Schuster and wins a free kick. The ball is played into the box, but an attempted cutback is sniffed out well by Baumann who halts the attack.
Schmid again links up with Schuster in midfield, and charges at the Dortmund back four. He tries to play in Darida, but his pass has too much pace and Weidenfeller is able to collect.
Freiburg hardly look to be intimidated at the back. They're sniffing out Dortmund's attacks rather easily in the early stages and attacking with plenty of pace on the flanks. Schmid beats Schmelzer on the right, but his final ball is lacking in quality.
Aubameyang concedes a foul now and Freiburg have an opportunity to cross a ball in. Mehmedi is toppled over in the box by Sokratis, but the referee says play on, dismissing the home side's half-hearted appeals for a penalty.
Dortmund aren't keeping as much of the ball as they usually like, but some sharp passing has them looking dangerous on attack. Grosskreutz tries to pick up Aubameyang on the right, but Darida tracks back well to break up the attack.
Gelson Fernandes concedes a foul and Dortmund have a free kick just outside the top of the box. Sahin takes it, but Baumann is up to the task as he makes a comfortable save on a weakly hit free kick.
Scheiber wins Dortmud a corner within a few minutes, but Schuster is able to clear. BVB keep the pressure on after a poor clearance from Sorg, but Aubameyang can't win the ball and Freiburg break on the counter.
Freiburg kick-off wearing their all red kits, moving left to right, with Dortmund wearing their black shirts and yellow shorts. We're underway here at the Mage Solar Stadium!
STAT ATTACK: Dortmund have won seven straight matches against Freiburg, outscoring them 25-3.
CHANGES: You can add Robert Lewandowski to the long list of absentees, as the Polish striker will get a games rest with a knee injury, replaced by Julian Scheiber up top. Marco Reus and Ikay Gundogan also remain out.
SUBS: Friedrich, Hofmann, Jojic, Langerak, Kirch, Durm.
DORTMUND XI (4-2-3-1): Weidenfeller; Piszczek, Sokratis, Hummels, Schmelzer; Sahin, Kehl; Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan, Grosskreutz; Schieber.
CHANGES: Only one alteration to Christian Streich's starting XI from their 0-0 draw with Hertha Berlin last weekend, as Philipp Zulechner replaces Karim Guede as Admir Mehmedi's strike partner up top.
SUBS: Batz, Coquelin, Mujdza, Guede, Klaus, Kerk, Hohn.
FREIBURG XI (4-4-2): Baumann; Sorg, Krmas, Ginter, Gunter; Schmid, Schuster, Fernandes, Darida; Mehmedi, Zulechner.
The teams have been announced, so let us have ourselves a look at today's starting line-ups:
Freiburg on the other hand has fallen victim to the curse of the Europa League this season, but all is not lost just yet for the Brazilians of Bresigau. A win today would vault them ahead of Hamburg and Stuttgart, out of the bottom three.
Bayer Leverkusen's draw yesterday means Dortmund would pull four points ahead of them with a win today, firmly into second place, still well behind Bayern Munich in first.
Good afternoon Bundesliga fans around the world, and welcome to today's clash between Borussia Dortmund and Freiburg at the Mage Solar Stadion. I'm Alex Moretto and I'll be your in-game host, guiding you through the match LIVE as it happens!
