• MAGE SOLAR Stadion, Freiburg im Breisgau
Referee: M. Fritz
• Attendance: 24000
N. Subotić 54'
M. Götze 83'
Time for me to bid you goodbye, but be sure to check out the other matches from across Europe today and tomorrow. In fact, Arsenal v QPR is midway through the second half right now, I'd recommend checking that one out!
Borussia Dortmund are confirmed the victors as the referee belatedly blows for full-time. Goals from Subotic and Gotze gave the visitors a win in what was a scrappy victory against a laboured Freiburg.
90' + 2'
90' + 2'
Weidenfeller's finally on his feet and hoofs the free-kick up the snow-covered pitch.
90' + 1'
Weidenfeller and Makiadi collide inside the box and both players are down. The Freiburg player is hauled to his feet but the Dortmund keeper looks winded and remains on the floor for now.
Gotze is whistled and booed off the pitch by the home fans, who are annoyed by how long he is taking to leave the field of play.
Dortmund don't look even remotely like they will concede two goals in these final few minutes of action.
Freiburg really should be 3-0 down!! Scheiber is through on goal inside the area but curls his effort wide of the left upright. His team-mates wioll be rolling their eyes at that miss, but at least it shouldn't cost them anything thanks to their two-goal lead.
Weidenfeller punches a quality free-kick from Schmid away from the top left-hand corner to ensure Dortmund still have a clean sheet.
Yellow Card Ilkay Gündogan
Assist Robert Lewandowski
Goal Mario Götze
GOAL! That's game over! Mario Gotze gets his third strike of the season, the Germany star latching onto Lewandowski's ball into the box and finishing with a calmly struck shot into the bottom left corner of the net. Freiburg 0-2 Dortmund!
Reus - who has been fairly quiet this afternoon - makes way for Julian Schieber. He'll be looking forward to getting wrapped up and warm I expect!
10 minutes left for the visitors to hold onto their lead. Can Dortmund do it, and in the process get a vital three points to shorten the difference between them and Bayern Munich to nine points?
Yellow Card Neven Subotic
Freiburg defender Diagne has been superb this afternoon despite them behind 1-0 down. He puts in two extremely important tackles to make sure Dortmund don't extend their lead.
The hosts are becoming more careless in possession as they frantically try to craft or carve an equaliser.
Piszczek almost makes it 2-0 to Dortmund! He bursts into the box and cinnects with a whipped ball from the left, but has to watch his first-time shot dribble agonisingly wide of the left post.
Yellow Card Daniel Caligiuri
Daniel Caligiuri becomes the second Freiburg player to enter the ref's book and the third altogether.
The atmosphere remains bubbling but you've got to wonder for how much longer at the rate of chances we're being given!
I should probably stop saying 'X team are on top at the moment' because it always seems to curse them and swap the domination around! But Dortmund are back on top and looking more likely to score a second than concede an equaliser.
Dortmund get a pair of corners, with the first nodded behind and the second headed away to get rid of imminent danger for Freiburg.
Play has (hopefully only) momentarily slipped back into eye-scratchingly scrappy mode. The snow isn't relenting though the fans are trying their best to generate a good atmosphere with chanting at the Mage Solar Stadion.
Oh dear, oh dear! Reus has ballooned the free-kick nowhere near the goal!
Yellow Card Matthias Ginter
Dortmund have another tasty-looking free-kick - Ginter pushing over Reus as he tried to catch him 30 yards from goal.
Vegar Eggen Hendenstad replaces Jendrisek, who has had sporadic chances in front of goal but not as many as he might have liked.
Is a Freiburg fight back on the cards? The hosts have been in the ascendancy since the Dortmund opener...
Super save from Weidenfeller! Jendrisek has the ball at his feet only five yards or less from goal but stutters with the shot to get the ball out of his feet and the Dortmund goalkeeper rushes out to block his eventual effort.
Dortmund, as you might have guessed, have been by far the more dominant side this half and fully deserved to take the lead.
Assist Marco Reus
Goal Neven Subotic
GOAL! Makiadi concedes a free-kick and Reus whips it in from deep. Subotic runs across the front of the Freiburg defence and flicks it on with a header that flies in at the back post! Borussia Dortmund lead 1-0!
Gotze so close to getting the first goal! The attacking midfielder lifts his first-time volley over the bar from eight yards after Kevin Grosskreutz's graft down to the byeline in the right half of the box.
A powerful run from Lewndowski sees him through on goal inside the box but Diagne Fallou gets a crucial slide tackle in on the Poland international to deny him a goal or even a shot.
If you've just joined the LIVE! then you haven't missed much to be honest. An opportunity here and there but a serious lack of quality, probably due to the weather. On the other hand, the snow could see players make costly mistakes, so who's to say we won't see a torrent of goals this half?! (My optimistic hat is firmly donned...)
Lukasz Piszczek forces a last-ditch save from Baumann in the first chance of the half.
Dortmund get the second half started! No half-time changes and no change in the heavy snowy weather either.
The referee blows for half-time and the players quickly head in to warm up after a snow-ridden and low-on-quality first half. Freiburg arguably had the better chances but neither side can claim they played significantly better than the other really. In fact, neither side can claim they played particularly well at all!!
Reus whips a low, hard cross in from the right which Freiburg fail to clear, and Ilkay Gundogan dummies with his second touch 20 yards out before firing just wide of the right post with his third touch.
The first half really is stuttering towards a scrappy, chance-less end. I imagine all the players are thinking about the warmth of the dressing rooms!
More handbags-of-sorts between Kehl and Makiadi! Both put in poor tackles on each other on the Dortmund left wing but the referee waves play on.
Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl gets the first booking of the game for a slightly late slide tackle on Makiadi inside the centre circle.
Yellow Card Sebastian Kehl
The snow, by the way, is pouring down more heavily than ever. It's times like this when you really don't envy the goalkeepers who don't have the opportunity to move around and get warm!
Straight away at the other end, Dortmund string together a number of delicate passes and give us the best football of the match, though nothing comes of it as the final pass is blocked.
Schuster breaks into the box, Weidenfeller closes him down, the Freiburg skipper squares it but there's no team-mate there to put the ball away and Dortmund can clear.
Freiburg have won another corner, as they push forwards in their numbers hoping to get first blood!
...and Freiburg very nearly score from it! In fact, Guede probably should score that, as he escapes his marker and nods inexplicably far over the crossbar eight yards from goal.
It's Dortmund's turn to give away a free-kick 30 yards from goal, Subotic the guilty party this time...
Hummels has to clear it for a throw-in after Scmid whips in a dangerous low ball from the right.
Lewandowski has a pop-shot from just outside the box but it skews slightly wide of the left post, with Baumann looking relieved to watch it go wide.
Schmelzer curls it in instead of firing it and his fellow defender Mats Hummels very nearly got a flick-on with his head. A good training-ground move that one!
Ginter concedes a free-kick a good 30 yards from goal. Dortmund didn't make the most of a similar set piece earlier - will it be different this time around?
Play really is laboured in the snow. Short passes are what's needed but long balls are being employed far too often, as players become frustrated at the lack of chances.
Kruse fires a wasteful shot in from the left. Freiburg head coach Christian Streich fumes on the touchline!
Max Kruse almost gets to the ball before Weidenfeller, but the key word there being 'almost'. Freiburg are more than holding their own at the Mage Solar Stadion so far.
A cheeky flick from Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp on the touchline as the ball careers out for a throw in! Silky skills!
Gotze with a typically excellent through ball down the right for Lewandowski, but he can't reach it this time. Nice vision though from the Germany starlet.
OFF THE POST! From the corner, Jendrisek nods it onto the left upright, before Dortmund scramble clear. Freiburg are desperately unlucky not to be ahead from that chance!
Nevan Subotic slides in a tackle to give away the first Freiburg corner of the match. Good pressing and passing from the home team to win that one.
Karim Guede has a look of surprise on his face as he concedes a free-kick for handballing it just outside the Dortmund area. Hard to tell if the ref got that one right or not to be honest.
Dortmund are the side looking more likely to score at the moment but neither side can build on solid momentum due to the conditions I expect.
Mario Gotze wins a free-kick after Freiburg captain Julian Schuster's wayward tackle. The 30-yard attempt is easily dealt with inside the left post by Oliver Baumann however.
Matthias Ginter puts the ball out for a Dortmund corner, which Freiburg try to counterattack from, albeit unsuccessfully.
The players are gradually getting used to these difficult conditions and there are only flashes of qualityon display at the Mage Solar Stadion so far.
Marcel Schmelzer - the goalscoring hero of the midweek win over Real Madrid for Dortmund - can't connect onto Robert Lewandowski's cross from the right wing at the back post.
Freiburg are pressing down the left via a multitude of throw ins. Eventually a cross is whipped in but Erik Jendrisek can only tamely header the red ball towards Dortmund keeper Roman Weidenfeller.
The hosts get us underway! The first snowy game of the Bundesliga season!
Dortmund are all in yellow and Freiburg are in red tops and black shorts.
The first signs of winter are among us, football followers! There's snow pouring onto the pitch with the players out and ready to roll.
The hosts today have beaten Dortmund just once in the last 10 years. In fact, in their history, Freiburg have only beaten the reigning Bundesliga champions three times in the league!
Less than 10 minutes until kick-off now, so let's have a bit of a stat attack!
Borussia Dortmund: Weidenfeller; Schmelzer, Hummels, Subotic, Piszczek; Kehl, Gundogan; Grosskreutz, Gotze, Reus; Lewandowski.
Freiburg: Baumann; Mujdza, Ginter, Diagne, Guede; Schmid, Schuster, Makiadi, Caligiuri; Kruse, Jendrisek.
First up, let's have a look at the team line-ups...
