Both sides harbour ambitions of playing in the Champions League next season...Mixed Summer
Fiorentina's season has already started on the backfoot as it has been announced that Stevan Jovetic will be out for several months with injury. Jovetic is one of the Viola's prized assets and his absence is potentially dangerous for their ambition of finishing in the top four in Serie A.
Last season the Florence-based side finished a modest 11th after ending in the top four in 2007-08 and 2008-09. This time they will aim to do much better than that but it will depend on how fit their players are.
The arrival of Gaetano D'Agostino, Felipe and Artur Boruc has strengthened Fiorentina's already talented squad and they will look to start with a home win against Napoli.
Refreshed And Rejuvenated
Napoli had a great time last season as they finished ahead of Italian and European giants Juventus in sixth and had a chance to play in this season's Europa League. As a matter of fact, Walter Mazzarri's side have qualified for the group stage, thanks to Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani's goals against Swedish club Elfsborg in the play-off tie.
This season Napoli will target a top four finish and the Azzurri do have the resources to do so. Last season under Roberto Donadoni they made a disappointing start to the campaign but since the advent of Mazzarri the Neapolitans have been going from strength to strength.
However, Napoli's away form last season wasn't really that good but they will hope for a good result in Florence on Sunday evening.
Jovetic is a long-term injury concern while Santana and Ljajic are also unavailable. Gamberini is serving a two-match ban.
Probable Lineup (4-2-3-1): Frey, De Silvestri, Natali, Kroldrup, Pasqual; Montolivo, Zanetti; Marchionni, D’Agostino, Vargas; Gilardino
Vitale is out and so is Pazienza, who is suspended. Cavani could start in the wake of Fabio Quagliarella’s reportedly impending move to Juventus.
Probable Lineup (3-4-1-2): De Sanctis, Grava, Cannavaro, Aronica; Maggio, Blasi, Gargano, Dossena, Hamsik; Lavezzi, Cavani
