ALMOST A GOAL FOR FIORENTINA! Montolivo plays wide for Vargas on the left, who crosses in low for Gilardino. The Italian tries to prod it to Mutu, but Barzagli gets back just in time to block the pass.
Will we have some late drama? The ref has added three minutes of injury time.
Del Piero runs at the heart of the defence and tries a one-two with Luca Toni on the edge of the area, but the return ball is overhit and Boruc watches it bobble out of play. At the other end, Bonucci just manages to get in front of Gilardino, who was waiting to pounce at the near post.
Grosso's ball into the area for Toni is half-cleared by the Viola backline and falls to Pepe. Another cross is attempted, but it's far too long and goes out of play.
Pepe crosses for Marchisio and the midfielder does a nifty stepover in the area before his shot is blocked. Juve threatening late on!
Luca Toni takes the ball of the foot of Marchisio in the Fiorentina area - yes, you read that correctly - both players went for the shot, but Marchisio was in the better position. Unfortunately for Juve, Toni's effort is charged down.
Right after I say that: Gilardino controls with his back to goal in the area and turns to fire, but his shot is blocked by the combination on Bonucci and Barzagli. A decent chance for the Viola, who are looking to nick one at the end without any luck.
Chances are becoming few and far between as this match winds down. With 15 minutes left there has been no inclination of anyone grabbing a winner in Florence.
Vargas whips in an outswinging corner and Gilardino gets his head to it, but once again it's off target. It was a difficult angle as the striker was leaning away from goal.
Matri spent most of the match isolated and Del Neri is hoping for Toni to repeat his efforts against last week as the 2006 World Cup winner replaces the former Cagliari star as the focal point of the attack.
Cerci, who huffed and puffed, but failed to blow Juve's house down, is replaced by Adem Ljajic as Mihajlovic looks for some inspiration from his bench.
Del Piero fails to connect with Matri in the area and fiorentina burst the other way. Another 'ex' in this match, Felipe Melo, halts their counter by bringing down Montolivo.
Montolivo sees Mutu wide open on the left and volleys it from the centre of the pitch toward the Romanian, but the former striker is offside against his former team.
Yellow CardFrederik Sorensen
Fiorentina try to be clever on the freekick, as Mutu fakes a shot and does a low pass across the edge of the area for Montolivo, but it doesn't come off and the midfielder's effort is blocked.
Del Piero has an immediate effect. He controls the ball inside the area and shoots past his marker, forcing Boruc into a tough save. It would have been a dram start for the veteran.
Alessandro Del Piero
Fiorentina ask for a penalty after Kroldrup is felled in the box, but the referee correctly waves to the player to get up. Soon after, Del Piero makes his entrance, returning from injury and replacing Krasic.
Young full-back Sorensen comes on to replace Marco Motta, who had another poor fairly average performance in Juventus colours.
Another chance goes begging for Juve. Pepe surges on the counter and crosses for Krasic, but the ball goes over the by-line and it's a goal-kick for the hosts.
The ball is bogged down in midfield and a passage of the team's gifting possession to one another comes to an end when Montolivo is fouled.
Aquilani has a long-range attempt blocked after being set up by Krasic. The Serbian midfielder has barely been involved thus far and will need to get more touches on the ball if the Bianconeri are to create a true opening.
Montolivo intercepts in midfield and scuffs his shot wide to the onrushing Cerci, who whips in a ball for Gilardino and the striker's header to the far post bounces just wide with Buffon seemingly beaten. A good attempt from the hosts.
JUVENTUS MISS A GLORIOUS CHANCE! A corner somehow finds it's way through a crowd of players to Bonucci, who is standing right in front of Boruc at the edge of the six-yard area, but his attempt goes straight into the former Celtic shot stopper's gloves.
We're back for the second-half as referee Orsato restarts proceedings. Will one of these teams break the deadlock?
The whistle blows for half-time, and a rather disappointing 45 minutes to proceedings comes to an end. Let's hope that the second half will prove to be far more productive.
Danger occurs in the Fiorentina box, after the ball stays in mid-air for an uncomfortable duration and there is a scramble to win it. Fabio Grosso loses out and it is safely collected by Artur Boruc.
Matri, not for the first time, is caught offside after racing past the last line of defence too early to collect a long through ball.
Riccardo Montolivo is penalised and referee Daniele Orsato awards Juventus a free-kick in a dangerous position. However, nothing comes of it and play resumes as normal.
The match has begun to drop in quality, after such a promising start to proceedings. Both teams are struggling to retain the ball in rather scrappy fashion.
Melo is penalised for a handball in his own half. Vargas lines the freekick from about 30 yards away from Buffon's goal but once again the chance is wasted as he shoots into the crowd and fails to worry the Juventus custodian.
Bonucci shows some poise in turning away from Gilardino in his own area and clearing while under pressure following De Silvestri's low cross from the right corner.
Montolivo attempts a long range effort, but Barzagli gets a touch and it takes the sting off it for Buffon to gather with ease as it remains 0-0, despite being a fairly open match.
Grosso tries one of his trademark over-lapping runs down the left, but the ball into the area for him is too deep and Boruc anticipates the former Italian international, beating him to the ball.
Juventus have done absolutely nothing as attacking force in this match, yet to test Boruc in the Fiorentina goal. thus far it's the home side asking all the questions.
Mutu carries the ball on the counter as the Viola have numbers going forward, but he opts to shoot from long distance and well over the net rather than pass to Cerci or Gilardino.
Buffon restarts with a goal kick and Marchisio and Behrami bicker for a minute or so after the Juventus man wins a foul in midfield.
Another chance for Fiorentina as Gilardino connects with a long ball over the top, but his effort is too tame and Buffon collects with ease as the ball floats into his hands.
SO CLOSE FOR FIORENTINA! Montolivo does well to old off Krasic in the area and his pass is deflected to Cerci. The winger volleys toward goal and a deflection leaves Buffon stranded, but it goes just over the crossbar!
Fiorentina win a freekick on the left flank after after Mutu is fouled by Grosso. The same Viola player whips it in to the near post, but Felipe Melo clears easily.
Aquilani slices the Fiorentina backline with a through-ball down the centre for Matri, but the in-form striker is a couple steps offside.
After another Fiorentina attack that was ultimately fruitless, it's now Marco Motta down on the ground. This match has had a fairly choppy start.
Behrami's cross to the far post after surging down the right channel is too far for Gilardino and Buffon watches the ball go out of play.
Cerci asks for a foul after being bundled over by Bonucci, the referee says the player got a touch on the ball and he appears to be right, but it's the Juve centre-back who is limping trying to shake off an injury.
The match is now underway at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. Let's hope for another fierce contest between these two long-time rivals.
FIORENTINA: Boruc; De Silvestri, Gamberini, Kroldrup, Pasqual; Cerci, Behrami, Montolivo, Vargas; Gilardino, Mutu. JUVENTUS: Buffon; Motta, Bonucci, Barzagli, Grosso; Aquilani, Melo, Marchisio; Pepe, Matri, Krasic.
