My name is Ben Cullimore and it's been an absolute pleasure describing all of the action to you this evening. Until next time, goodbye!
Everton, who are now unbeaten in their last four league games, remain in 12th place in the table but move to within three points of Newcastle United ahead of their tough clash away to Chelsea on Wednesday evening, whilst Liverpool, who stay in seventh place, next face fifth-place Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Tuesday.
Both sides battled hard all evening long and, as a result, both should be happy with the point. Everton will no doubt be the happier of the two due to their position in the table, but they made Liverpool work extremely hard, and, with plenty of chances at both ends of the pitch, the game could have gone either way.
FULL-TIME: EVERTON 0-0 LIVERPOOL
90' + 2'
Everton are trying their hardest to push forward as they search for what would surely prove to be the winning goal, but Liverpool are sitting deep as they look to hold on to what would be a well-earned point.
The fourth official has indicated that there will be three minutes of added time.
Sturridge sprints down the left wing, weaving in and out of a plethora of Everton players, before cutting the ball back to Gerrard. The captain steadies himself before trying to curl a low shot towards the bottom left hand corner of the goal, but it's poorly struck and rolls several yards wide of its intended target.
Brilliant save by Mignolet! Barkley sends an absolutely fantastic pass across to Coleman on the right hand side of the penalty area, and the Irishman then unleashes a fierce shot that the Liverpool goalkeeper does extremely well to parry away with a strong diving stop.
And the second is Alcaraz, who replaces Besic.
With little over five minutes left to play, Everton have decided to make a double substitution. The first player to come on is Barkley, who takes the palce of Naismith.
Fantastic opportunity for Lambert! Sturridge sends a pass across the edge of the penalty area to Gerrard, who then beautifully flicks the ball into the path of the substitute. He turns and fires a low shot but it's not hit as well as he would have liked and is easily stopped by Mignolet.
Liverpool have decided to make their final substitution of the evening, with Lambert coming on to replace Sterling.
Everton look full of energy and belief as they push forward! Barry and Naismith link up well on the right flank but the latter is eventually dispossessed just as he is about to unleash a low cross.
Yellow Card Muhamed Besic
And, finally, Besic is shown a yellow card, presumably for starting the whole thing by crashing into Ibe and lying on top of him as the Liverpool youngster tried to get up.
Yellow Card Steven Naismith
As is Naismith, who seemed to be one of the most vocal of the Everton players.
Yellow Card Jordan Henderson
Eventually, after much pushing and shoving, Henderson is awarded a yellow card for his part in the altercation.
It's all heating up now! Besic and Ibe clash as the latter tries to push forward down the right wing, and suddenly it all kicks off, with almost every player on the pitch involving in a pushing match near the halfway line.
Once again, Lukaku and Can are involved in a fierce fight for the ball on the left flank, and this time the Belgian comes out on top before Skrtel dispossesses him with a brilliant sliding tackle.
Lukaku and Can battle for the ball near the cornerflag on the right flank before the latter is eventually brought down by the Belgian, who was causing the German all sorts of problems with his strength.
Gerrard curls the resulting free kick towards the edge of the six-yard box but it's comfortably cleared by a diving header from Jagielka.
Yellow Card Bryan Oviedo
Again, Ibe and Oviedo go head-to-head, but this time the youngster is brought down by the Everton left-back, who receives a yellow card as a result.
Great chance for Sturridge! Ibe beats Oviedo with ease before cutting the ball back to the substitute, who fires a quick shot towards goal that's blocked brilliantly by Jagielka on the edge of the six-yard box.
Everton break away quickly, with Coleman darting down the right flank before sending a deep cross towards the back post, but it's overhit and ends up sailing harmlessly out of play for a goal kick.
Lennon and Coleman link up well on the right hand side of the Liverpool penalty area before the latter curls a dangerous cross towards Lukaku, but Skrtel is able to get a head on it first to clear the danger.
Allen and Naismith clash in the air, and Everton are awarded a free kick 30 yards out as a result. It's fired towards the penalty spot but is disappointing and fails to clear the first man.
A poor pass across goal from Sakho almost gifts Everton with the perfect opportunity to break away quickly, but, once again, Skrtel is there to clean up the Frenchman's mess before the hosts can take advantage of the mistake.
After patient build-up play from Liverpool, Henderson picks up the ball in the middle of the pitch and attempts to find Sturridge with a quick through-ball, but Coleman does extremely well to dart across and cut out the danger with a vital interception.
And now the hosts have decided to make a substitution, with Mirallas making way for Lennon, who comes on to make his first appearance for Everton.
It's all Liverpool at the moment as they boss possession in the middle of the pitch. Everton haven't been able to get started yet and the crowd are starting to get restless as a result.
Liverpool have decided to make their first change of the second half, with Sturridge coming on to take the place of Coutinho.
Fantastic strike by Gerrard! The resulting corner pinballs around the Everton penalty area before eventually dropping to the captain, who unleashes a great scissor kick that deflects off the head of Naismith and just over the top of the crossbar.
Sterling again! This time, he darts into the penalty area to make contact with a Countinho pass near the byline, but Joel pulls off another good save to deny him at the near post.
Coutinho wins the ball back again in a dangerous position inside the Everton half of the pitch. He charges forward before teeing up Sterling on the left hand side of the penalty area, but the youngster ends up sending his strike straight into the grateful hands of Joel.
Barry is dispossessed midway inside the Everton half of the pitch, allowing Coutinho to break away quickly, but the Brazilian releases the ball too early and ends up bringing a promising attack to a disappointing end.
Great strike by Mirallas! The Belgian fires a curling shot from the resulting set-piece that ends up missing the near post by a few agonising inches.
Naismith is brought down from behind by Allen, and Everton are awarded a free kick in a very dangerous position 30 yards out.
And we're underway once again!
The two teams are making their way back out onto the pitch ahead of the start of the second half. Neither side have made any substitutions during the half-time break
It's been a thoroughly entertaining first half, with both sides battling hard and being presented with good opportunities at either end of the pitch. Liverpool have gone closest, however, with youngster Ibe hitting the post with a brilliant long-range strike, but Everton have also had their fair share of chances in front of goal, with Naismith and Mirallas putting in particularly good performances. With the two teams so evenly matched, this could go either way!
HALF-TIME: EVERTON 0-0 LIVERPOOL
45' + 2'
Liverpool patiently pass the ball around before Gerrard sends a deep cross towards the back post, but Jagielka is there to cut it out with a strong header.
45' + 1'
After receiving treatment from the Liverpool medical staff on the touchline, Coutinho makes his way back onto the pitch for the final minute of the first half.
The fourth official has indicated that there will be two minutes of added time.
Besic and Countinho clash in the middle of the pitch, leaving the Brazilian in a heap on the floor and in serious discomfort.
Ovideo is left in acres of space in the middle of the pitch, allowing him to dart forward quickly before trying to find Naismith. However, Henderson shows great awareness to beat the Everton man to the ball before kick-starting another Liverpool attack.
Ibe beats Oviedo before trying to skip past Besic near the byline, but the Bosnian pulls off a good tackle to dispossess the youngster and send the ball out for a corner, which Everton deal with comfortably.
Mirallas wins the ball off Allen before darting into the penalty area from the left wing, but a good tackle from the Welshman ends up winning a goal kick for Liverpool after the ball ricocheted off the Belgian before flying out of play.
Yellow Card James McCarthy
McCarthy flies into Countinho and brings the Brazilian crashing to the ground with a heavy challenge, and, as a result, he becomes the first player to enter the referee's book.
Great strike by Coutinho! The Brazilian twists and turns on the edge of the penalty area as he tries to find a way past McCarthy. After three turns he eventually unleashes a curling shot towards the top right hand corner of the goal, but Joel does well to save it with an impressive stop.
Besic picks up the ball in the middle of the pitch and quickly sends it out to Mirallas on the left flank, but the Belgian's first touch is heavy and he ends up sending it out of play for a Liverpool throw-in.
Great defending again by Skrtel! This time, Barry launches a wonderful long pass forward that flies over the top of the Liverpool back line and onto the chest of Lukaku, but the Slovakian defender does well to dart across the box and dispossess the Belgian before he can shoot.
Mirallas does well to skip past Can with ease before trying to penetrate the penalty area with a determined run, but he's dispossessed by Skrtel just as he's about to send a through-ball into the path of Lukaku.
Sakho is dispossessed in a very dangerous position midway inside the Liverpool half of the pitch. Mirallas then darts forward and into the right hand side of the penalty area before trying to cut the ball back to Naismith, but Henderson does well to intercept the pass at the vital moment.
Ibe hits the post! Fantastic strike from the youngster! He pushes forward, weaving in and out of a sea of blue shirts, and unleashes a brilliant shot from 25 yards out that sails past Joel only to ricochet off the woodwork. What a goal that would have been!
Naismith and Can battle for possession on the left flank, with the latter just about able to hold onto the ball before it away from danger near the cornerflag.
After receiving medical attention for a few moments, Naismith jogs back onto the pitch to return to action.
Naismith is on the floor and looks to be struggling with a mystery injury, one that may force him off at this early stage of the game.
Great opportunity for Everton! Coleman battles his way down the right wing before sending a brilliant cross to the far post, but it takes Naismith completely by surprise and he's unable to make the chance count.
Henderson launches a lovely lofted ball from the halfway line that almost finds Sterling on the edge of the Everton penalty area, but Jagielka does extremely well to intercept it with a strong header.
What a chance for Ibe! Moreno charges down the right flank before cutting inside and teeing up Sterling, who rounds two defenders before firing a low cross-cum-shot that Joel is just about able to jump in front of to deflect out of the way of the youngster.
Lucas will play no further part in the game, and Allen has come on to replace the injured Brazilian.
Lucas seems to be in some discomfort as he gingerly limps off the pitch to receive further treatment for what looks like an unfortunate muscle injury.
Gerrard picks up the ball in the middle of the pitch and fires a wayward pass out of play for a throw-in, and the Everton fans respond with a deafening roar of delight.
Besic powers through the centre of the Liverpool midfield before trying to set up Lukaku with a deft through-ball, but Can does incredibly well to cut out the pass with a vital interception.
Great stop by Joel! Gerrard curls a brilliant shot from the resulting set-piece that seems destined for the top left hand corner of the goal, but the Spaniard is just about able to tip it over the top of the crossbar with a fingertip save.
Barry flies into Coutinho and brings the Brazilian down with a clumsy challenge, resulting in a free kick for Liverpool in a very dangerous position 25 yards out.
Joel rushes to collect a deep through-ball, but is caught too far out of goal and with Sterling in possession. He rushes back as the youngster twists and fires a low shot towards goal, but, luckily for the Everton goalkeeper, the strike ends up bouncing just wide of the near post.
Nervy moments at the back for Liverpool! Sakho is caught in possession on the right hand side of his own penalty area and is dispossessed by Naismith, who then back-heels the ball into the path of Mirallas. The Belgian is slightly offside, however, and a promising-looking attack is brought to a disappointing end by the linesman's flag.
Liverpool patiently pass the ball around deep inside their own half of the pitch before Can sends a lofted ball forward, but it's completely overhit and ends up missing all available red shirts before finding Joel.
Ibe sprints down the right wing before cutting inside and playing a quick one-two with Sterling, but Oviedo uses his strength to good effect to get in front of the youngster and shepherd the ball out of play for a goal kick.
Great play by Liverpool! Sterling pushes forward through the centre of the Everton midfield before sending the ball out to Moreno, who then quickly plays it back to the youngster. He turns and fires a low shot towards goal but it's blocked well by Jagielka on the edge of the penalty area.
Moreno pushes over Naismith from behind, and Everton are awarded an early free kick on the right flank as a result. It's whipped into the centre of the box but it fails to find a blue shirt before Mirallas is flagged for offside.
And we're off! Everton get us underway, attacking from right to left.
The two sides are making their way out onto the pitch, with just a few minutes to go until kick-off. As expected, the atmosphere is electric, with both sets of fans in fine voice!
As for Liverpool, boss Brendan Rodgers has also decided to make two alterations to the side that won against West Ham in their last Premier League outing, with the biggest talking point being the inclusion of youngster Jordan Ibe, who takes the place of Lazar Markovic on the right wing. Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard returns to the starting lineup in place of Adam Lallana, who is out injured.
Roberto Martinez has made just two changes to the Everton side that started against Crystal Palace last weekend, with Bryan Oviedo and James McCarthy coming into the squad to take the place of Leighton Baines and Aiden McGeady, respectively.
Liverpool substitutes: Ward, Johnson, Lovren, Allen, Markovic, Sturridge, Lambert.
Liverpool XI (3-4-3): Mignolet; Can, Skrtel, Sakho; Ibe, Henderson, Lucas, Moreno; Gerrard, Sterling, Coutinho.
Everton substitutes: Griffiths, Browning, Alcaraz, Gibson, Barkley, Lennon, Kone.
Everton XI (4-2-3-1): Joel; Coleman, Stones, Jagielka, Oviedo; McCarthy, Besic, Barry; Mirallas, Lukaku, Naismith.
There's just over 15 minutes left to go until kick-off, so let's have a look at how the two teams will be lining up this afternoon...
As for Everton, they finally brought a torrid six-game winless run to an end with a narrow 1-0 victory away to Crystal Palace last Saturday, but they are still far from where they want to be in the Premier League table. With just six wins all season, they start the game in 12th place, six points clear of the relegation zone but with tough clashes against Chelsea and Arsenal coming up in the next two weeks. A win today would be their first against their local rivals since October 2010 - one that also came at Goodison Park - and would go a long way to finally kick-starting their season after a poor first half of the campaign.
Here it is! The always thrilling Merseyside derby is upon us once again, and this instalment is guaranteed to be a cracker! Today marks Steven Gerrard's final derby appearance before his move to LA Galaxy in the summer, and for that reason alone it is going to be a special occasion, but this afternoon's clash is also one that both sides cannot afford to lose, and, as a result, it looks as if it's going to be an extremely tense contest. Liverpool start the day in impressive form, with five wins from their last six games, and last weekend's 2-0 victory at home to West Ham United means that they also begin the clash in seventh place, just four points behind Arsenal.
Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of today's Premier League clash between Everton and Liverpool. My name is Ben Cullimore and I will be keeping you up to date with all of the action from Goodison Park.
