The under-fire goalkeeper had very little to do but produced an excellent diving save to keep out Damjanovic's glancing header in the second-half. Did look rather uncomfortable with the ball at his feet.
Won the majority of headers up against Damjanovic and looked an assured, international-quality central defender in everything he did.
His left foot offered great balance as he looked to overlap Welbeck and deliver crosses. Produced good deliveries and link-up play while he was never troubled defensively.
A solid performance from the Everton man. Good reading of the game and an enjoyable physical battle with Damjanovic.
A perfect international debut for the Tottenham winger as he produced a man-of-the-match display and capped it with a tremendous goal. His fearless running caused Montenegro all sorts of problems and forced the opener, while his fine 25-yard strike with his weaker right foot wrapped up the points.
Was intelligent tactically as he sat in midfield and tried to start England attacks. Kept his passing simple but might have made more of his customary runs into the box.
The England captain looked to drive the team forward from central midfield and then join attacks on the edge of the penalty area. His passing and shooting were both somewhat wayward but he set a high tempo.
Showed clever movement and running and, after some misplaced shots in the first-half, made a real difference after the break. Forced the first goal with a powerful strike and the second with a strong run and cutback.
Was lively as the spearhead of the Three Lions' attack and his creativity troubled the Montenegro defence. Provided a cheeky backheel to Welbeck in the build-up to England's second goal before getting on the scoresheet in added time by converting the penalty he won himself.
Missed a glorious first-half chance to open the scoring but made up for it with a close-range finish in the 48th minute. Picked the ball up in dangerous area and always looked to knit together the home team's attacking moves in the final third.
The Montenegro goalkeeper was clearly targeted by England and his handling was unconvincing throughout - not least as he palmed Welbeck's shot for Rooney to score.
A poor performance from the left-back as he struggled to come up with a solution to stop Townsend's direct dribbling.
The right-sided midfielder worked hard but had no real impact until his mis-hit shot was turned in by Damjanovic.
Looked pedestrian at times against the sharpness of England's forwards. Produced some important interventions but didn't do enough to stop England creating chances.
The centre-back had a difficult task in coping with the interchanging of England's attacking players and afforded Welbeck and Sturridge too much space, especially when he tired. It was he who produced the challenge of frustration on Sturridge for the added time penalty.
Provided a superb block to keep out Sturridge's goal-bound flick in the first half but appeared to be struggling before being replaced by Beqiraj in the 57th minute.
Played on the left side of the Montenegro attack but spent a large part of the game tracking back defensively. Did look to get at Walker more in the second half but enjoyed no luck in that area.
Worked hard in midfield and was tidy on the ball when in possession. Found it hard to deny Rooney and others space between the lines, however.
Was desperately unfortunate as his mis-kicked clearance in the 62nd minute bobbled in to the far corner of the goal. Appeared very tired in the second half, however, especially after spending most of the game pressing England midfielders.
The Manchester City man showed some glimpses of star quality, particularly in the second half when his side finally showed some attacking ambition. The highlight was a wonderful strike from 30 yards that smashed against the crossbar.
The big forward caused England a few problems with his physicality - and that was before he reacted sharply to score for the visitors. Had earlier forced Hart into a great save with a glancing header.
