David Villa 40'
Full time in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Barcelona run out comfortable 3-0 winners over Alaves thanks to goals from Villa, Cesc, and a wonder striker from captain on the night, Andres Iniesta. The hosts can hold their heads high but were simply outclassed by the Catalans! Thank you for joining us on Goal.com! See you next time!
GOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAL FOR BARCELONA!! That seals it!! Fabregas drifts to the back post and loses his marker to nod home a simple header into the net after a cross dinked in from the byline! 3-0!
Aguirre Sendoa with the opportunity to get the ball into the box with a free kick from the right-hand side. The substitute whips a cross in but Pinto comes out to claim comfortable. Another wasted set-piece.
Yellow CardCesc Fàbregas
Barca beginning to take the sting out of the match with passes in and around the halfway line. Alaves continue to attempt to press but they look very, very fatigued. I doubt we will have a grandstand finish.
A break in play at the moment as Alves is currently down injured. A truly eye-watering collision with an Alaves player leaves the Brazilian holding his groin. I won't paint a picture!
The Alaves fans continue to create a vibrant atmosphere inside Estadio de Mendizorroza. They have been superb all night. Fair play to them!
Urtzi Iturrioz makes a terrific double save!! Tello stretches his legs down the inside right channel and fires a shot towards the near post that is saved. He has another bite and lashes another shot but Iturrioz saves with his legs this time!
A quiet period in the game at the moment. The hosts are indeed starting to tire and Barca look to be wearing them even more down. There are definitely more goals in this, though.
Andrés Iniesta Luján
Jonathan Dos Santos
Third and final change for the Catalans now as goalscorer Andres Iniesta comes off from another youth prospect, Jonathan Dos Santos. The Mexican will slot in in midfield.
Barcelona are cleverly halting the ascendancy of the hosts in typical style. They completing short, stabbing passes in midfield in an attempt to tire their opponents. It may be working, too.
Barcelona add more fresh legs in their team with the introduction of Cristian Tello in place of Villa. The La Masia graduate has plenty of pace to burn so beware, Alaves.
Slight penalty shout for the hosts after Manu Garcia's shot cannons off the underside of Bartra's arm inside the area. The referee waves play on and it looks like good decision. The Barca man's arm was down by his sides.
Fair play to the hosts. They could easily have capitulated after Iniesta's goal but are showing no signs of their determination waning. The game is pretty much end-to-end.
Rubio goes on a marauding run down the right-hand side and attempts to pick out Viguera inside the area but Mascherano blocks the cross with his chest and sends the ball out for a throw-in.
Guzman appeared to take exception to that decision by the linesman and has been awarded a booking for dissent.
Iniesta takes the ball out of the air with a wonderful touch before mounting a counterattack through the centre. However, Alaves reclaim possession and create a pacey attack of their own. But the ball eventually goes out for a Barca throw-in.
David Villa spreads the play to the opposite end of the park with a lovely floated pass to Dani Alves. The Brazilian cushions a pass into the path of Cesc Fabregas but the midfielder blazes his attempts over the bar.
First change of the match for Barcelona as Alex Song comes on to replace Sergio Busquets. A like-for-like substitution.
GOOOOOOAAAAL FOR BARCA!!! WAIT! NO! OFFSIDE!!! David Villa fizzes a teasing cross along the box and Alexis Sanczhez slides in to finish, but the referee gives a free kick. Its unclear whether it was offside or a foul by the Chilean! Either way it is harsh!
A moment of absolute pure class from Iniesta doubles the lead for Barcelona in the Copa del Rey. It may be a case of how many for the visitors now.
GoalAndrés Iniesta Luján
GOOOOOOOAAAAAAL FOR BARCELONA!!! Outrageous from Andres Iniesta!! The captain of the side tonight latches on to the ball 25 from goal and majestically curls it into the top corner with his first touch! Magical! 2-0 Barca!
Asier fakes a couple of shots on goal and has Montoya in knots in the inside left channel but as he is about to pull the trigger the Barca man comes in with a vital interception. Better play from the Segunda B side.
Viguera hustles and hassles the Barcelona defence and almost forced a mistake out of the Catalans but Marc Bartra remains strong to clear the ball away when Barca were a little disjointed.
WE ARE BACK UNDERWAY!
Half time in Vitoria-Gasteiz. A solitary goal from David Villa five minutes before the end of the first half is the difference at the moment in this Copa del Rey clash between Alaves and Barcelona. The visitors with plenty of possession as expected but have been frustrated for periods during the match. Join us in 15 minutes for the second half!
Chance for Alaves to peg a goal back just before the break with a corner kick. It is swing into the centre and but Barce head clear. That should be the last action of the first period...
Well the hosts are stuck between a rock and a hard place now. Do they still keep defending and limit the damage or do they go for a goal and risk being picked off by Barca?
GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAALLL FOR BARCELONA!!! They eventually make the breakthrough! Iniesta curls a wonderful pass through the centre for Villa and the striker rifles a left-footed shot into the top corner! What a finish! 1-0!
Just over six minutes to go until half time. Alaves have done extremely well to stem the flow of the Barca attacks so far, but they will still be very, very pleased to go into the break even.
Alexis Sanchez turns inside from the left-hand side and attempts to curl the ball into the top right corner but his strike goes horribly wide of the goal. Wild shot there.
Handbags at 10 paces here as Dani Alves and Manu Garcia have a tiff after the Alaves man accused the Brazilian of elbowing him in the face. They eventually shake hands and the football can continue.
The game is not a completely different situation from what Barcelona face just about every week in La Liga. Alaves are defending in huge numbers and the Catalans are being faced with a blue and white wall every time they get the ball.
Well, fairly embarrassing play-acting from Sergio Busquets. The midfielder was shoved in the back ever so slightly by Viguera and went down like a sack of potatoes. Barca get the free kick, however.
The game is getting a little feisty as we approach the half-hour mark. Javier Mascherano just went through Oscar Rubio with a crunching challenge on the touchline. The Alaves man made the most of it but the tackle wasn't without its guile.
Alaves have a great opportunity to heap some pressure on Barca with a free kick on the right-hand side. However, it is terribly under hit by Manu Garcia and the ball is headed away by the visitors. What a waste.
Iniesta tests the gloves of Urtzi Iturrioz in the Alaves goes with a rasper of a shot from the edge of the box but the goalkeeper is equal to the attempt and manages to parry it away. Barca getting closer and closer.
Montoya and Dani Alves have saw plenty of the match so far but aim to get better service into the box when they have the ball. To be fair to them, however, there is not a lot of bodies to aim at in there with Villa pushed out to the left and Cesc dropping deep.
People would be forgiven if they said that this would be a walkover by Barcelona tonight against the Segunda B outfit, but although Vilanova's side have enjoyed a lot of possession, Alaves are holding out.
First shot on goal of the match for Alaves with Jagoba Beobide testing his luck from distance but it never looked like troubling Pinto in the Barcelona goal and goes over the bar.
An outstanding period of the game for both teams at the moment. Barcelona are relentlessly winning back possession inside the Alaves half but the home side are resilient in their defending at the back. Something has to give soon enough you would feel.
Iniesta twists, turns, and drifts past a couple of challenges down the left before fizzing a cross towards the penalty spot but Delgado Jaume is there to blast the ball into the stand to safety.
Martin Montoya and David Villa link-up excellently on the left-hand side with the latter looking to thread the left-back a pass through the centre of the Alaves defence but the hosts manage to clear.
Alaves look to be slightly on the ropes and camped inside their own half but they are let off the hook when Dani Alves needlessly brings down Asier on the right wing. The Brazilian makes his return from injury tonight in the Copa del Rey.
Barca look in the mood so far but Alaves are by no means parking the bus in an attempt to stop the Catalans. They are showing plenty endeavour in trying to win back possession.
Superb work from Alexis Sanchez down the right-hand side to drift past Manu Garcia and hit the byline before reversing a teasing cross to the back post. Villa gets to the ball but sees his attempt block by a combination of Alaves defenders. Great play by the Chilean.
Barca begin to exert their authority in the match with Iniesta, Roberto and Busquets all beginning to dominate the ball in central areas. I hope Alaves are prepared for long periods of chasing the ball.
It has been a fairly frantic start to the proceeding here. Fair play to the Alaves fans, they have packed the stadium to the rafter for the visitor of the Catalan side, and are creating an atmosphere worthy of the occasion for the Segunda B leaders.
AND WE ARE OFF!
Be sure to keep an eye out for Alaves' dangerman, Guzman, tonight. The 27-year-old has netted four goals in nine games so he will likely be the best chance that the hosts have of netting tonight.
Alaves currently sit top of the Spanish Segunda B division with 24 points taken from 10 matches. They have won eight games and lost two in the league this season.
So Tito Vilanova names a very strong starting line-up tonight. However, an obvious omission is that of Lionel Messi. How do you think Barcelona will fair without the Argentine maestro? Be sure to get your thoughts and opinions on our Twitter page at @goal_intl.
This is the starting XI of Barcelona: Pinto; Alves, Bartra, Mascherano, Montoya; Busquets, Roberto, Iniesta; Villa, Cesc, Alexis.
This is how Alaves will be lining up tonight: Urtzi; Rubio, Javi Hernadez, Agustín, Manu García; Beobide, Delgado, Asier, Jonan Garcia; Viguera, Guzman.
THE TEAMS ARE IN.
I'm Martin Macdonald, and I'll be taking you through the action this evening. The Segunda B side face a momentous task in bringing down the Catalan giants tonight, but let us hope we see an entertaining match with plenty of goals!
