The keeper made a number of outstanding saves during the first half to keep Madrid at bay. Benzema, Marcelo and Callejon were all thwarted by Varas but his poor clearance lead to the opener and a bad challenge conceded a penalty from which the second was scored.
Started the game impressively but struggled to cope with the Madrid onslaught that followed. He was thoroughly tested but did manage to make some impressive challenges to keep the visitors at bay.
A disappointing night from the left-back as he allowed the visitors to get past him time and again. He was one step off the pace and looked outclassed up against such esteemed opposition.

The Argentine found it difficult to get the better of Marcelo on the night. His involvement on the right was minimal but for a bright run that enabled him to supply the cross for Aspas to net the equaliser.
A well-executed volley almost gave his side a 10th-minute lead but Diego Lopez managed to keep it out. However, he failed to continue to such a standard and was overrun in the middle of the park.
Screened his defence impressively and did not allow Real Madrid to completely pull apart his back four. His cover was valuable but he did not think positively enough when his side remained in with a chance of a result.
A tricky performance from the Dane as he looked extremely confident on the ball. He put some brilliant crosses into the box but unfortunately for Celta his team-mates could not capitalise. He could perhaps have got more shots away himself, though.
Proved he was going to be a real handful as he forced Diego Lopez into his first save with just 15 seconds on the clock. He got a somewhat fortuitous goal but he deserved it for calling the keeper into action frequently.

The former Chelsea man struggled to get involved in the action throughout. He tracked back regularly, perhaps more than he would have liked, but almost grabbed a goal with a well-struck free kick in the first half.
A few top saves early in the game proved to be crucial as he stopped Madrid from going behind. He commanded his area well and always positioned himself in the correct areas to ensure he was in total control.
His inability to clear a long ball offered Aspas a chance after just 15 seconds and that set the tone for the start. He then missed a glorious chance later in the half but atoned for that error with a brilliant clearance in the second.
The Brazilian made some crucial challenges during the early exchanges, limiting the effectiveness of Celta down his flank. He pushed on as much as possible to aid him team was only denied a goal by a brilliant Varas stop.
Not one of his best performances in a Madrid shirt as Aspas' pace and movement caused him no end of trouble. However, when it came to facing up to the attacker he regularly came out on top with cool and composed tackles.
The Croatian showed his quality from set pieces as his delivery was consistently impressive. He made a few good passes from deep but never really unlocked the stout Celta defence.
The Germany international had a relatively decent game, the highlight of which was a great pass that put Marcelo in on goal. He linked well with the attackers but was withdrawn at half-time.
Helped inspire his side after a slow start with a number of coruscating runs from deep. Celta struggled to pick him up as he drifted across the field to great effect, however his final pass was not quite there.
It proved not to be the striker's night as despite some impressive movement he could not get the better of Javi Varas. He was thwarted by the keeper on three separate occasions before being withdrawn.
Was unable to get involved in the action throughout the game. He was largely underused on the right flank but did not go in search of the ball either. He had one great chance to find the net but Varas was equal to it.
The Portuguese took a while to get into the game, but rattled the bar with a good header in the first half. He found the net with a simple finish soon after the break and added a second from the spot.
Made his side instantly more dangerous after replacing Khedira at half-time, as his raking passes stretched the Celta defence.
The Brazilian was impressive after coming on for Callejon in the 66th minute. His brilliant run led to the penalty that ultimately proved decisive.
Replaced Benzema in the 66th minute but fared no better in front of goal. He missed two glorious chances late on to close out the result.
