South Africa travel to Botswana in what will be their second qualifier on the road to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil on Saturday afternoon, with both sides desperate to come out of the clash with a positive result following a disappointing start to the qualification phase.

South Africa’s 1-1 home draw against Ethiopia on the first day of 2014 World Cup qualifying was nothing short of disastrous for Bafana Bafana. The indisputably terrible result on Sunday cost coach Pitso Mosimane his job and assistant Steve Komphela now steps into the limelight in a caretaker role ahead of the announcement of a new man in charge. Things could have been worse on the day, as it took the 2010 World Cup hosts until the 77th minute to level through Katlego Mphela.

Needless to say, much more is expected from the South Africans who so far have failed to build on their respectable showing on the world stage two years ago. Now they must travel to Gaborone to face an equally desperate Botswana side this weekend. The Zebras disappointed in a similar fashion this past weekend, losing 2-0 away to the Central African Republic in what was the C.A.R's first ever World Cup qualifier victory.

South Africa will be without defender Tshepo Masilela following a knee injury sustained against Ethiopia, while Siyabonga Sangweni is also unavailable through injury. Thulani Serero returns to the team after missing the match against the east Africans following the death of his father.

Botswana will take on Bafana without SuperSport's Mogogi Gabonamong, who withdrew from the team citing family problems as the reason behind his decision to opt out of the match.

With Ethiopia and C.A.R taking up the other spots in Group A, this encounter becomes an important launchpad from which the winner can begin to make their comeback following a poor start to the campaign.

The striker is a talented player with an eye for goal. His abilities in attack will be important against Bafana Bafana, and he will need to score if Botswana are to have a chance.

K. Mphela

The Sundowns attacker has been one of the few consistent goalscorers for the national ream, and the fans will be counting on him to find a goal or two in Gaborone.

Editor's Prediction

Both teams are under pressure to record a positive result, but South Africa are the stronger side and should come out on top.
