Bayern München won 4 - 2 on penalties
And that's all from me tonight, folks. Thanks for tuning in. What a game! Two great teams going toe-to-toe, with the underdogs losing out in the cruelest fashion. Congratulations to Bayern though, experience shines through.
And that's that. Bayern set up the dream final against Borussia Dortmund, overcoming Gladbach, who have twice been a thorn in their side this season, on penalties. Dante and Nordtveit miss the decisive penalties, with every Bayern player finding the net.
Havard Nordtveit... AND NEUER'S OUTSTRETCHED LEG SAVES IT!!!!!
Kroos... Gets it just past Ter Stegen, who dived the right way and got a hand to it.... 4-2 Bayern...
Dante... Blazes it over!!! Advantage Bayern!!
Philipp Lahm... Makes no mistake! 3-2 to Bayern!!
Patrick Herrmann.... Marks his comeback with a well-taken penalty. 2-2!
Franck Ribery.... Sends Ter Stegen the wrong way! 2-1 to Bayern!
And Daems... Squeezes the penalty past Neuer! 1-1!
And Alaba scores!! 1-0 to Bayern on penalties!
And Bayern are going to start the shoot out, with David Alaba the first man to take one...
And that's full time. Some questionable finishing from both teams, mixed with great saves and a couple of dodgy offside. 0-0 after 120 minutes, and penalties to follow! Stay tuned!
UNBELIEVABLE! Ribery sprints the length of the pitch before pulling the ball back towards Petersen. The 23-year-old is getting ready to put his side in the final with a simple finish, only to slip and allow Gladbach to clear it. Quite ridiculous.
Reus swings in a late, late corner, which Neuer drops, however the referee saves the Germany 'keeper's blushes, ruling that Dante fouled his opponent.
Robben, who has certainly been the liveliest player in extra time, cuts infield from the left, and tries to prod an effort home, only to see it drift wide. Looks as though we're heading for penalties, folks...
Robben is livid as he goes down on the edge of the box, only to be told to get up by the referee, who is having none of it.
Some distressing scenes for Bayern fans. Lahm has gone down under a heavy challenge and looks to be in serious pain.
Some cunning trickery from Ribery leaves Daems bewildered, allowing the Frenchman to feed Robben at the edge of the box. The Dutchman got it all wrong, however, and it drifts wide for a goal kick.
SO CLOSE TO THE OPENING! Neustadter carelessly gives the ball away in midfield and feeds Robben, who blasts one across the face of goal, evading a host of his team-mates, as well as every defender.
Ter Stegen at the heart of the action as he beats a powerful Robben effort wide, and confidently claims the resulting corner.
Ribery is in a state of disbelief as he is flagged offside. He was ready to set Olic up for an easy finish.
Gladbach now fall victim to the linesman's flag, as Reus flicks on a long ball to Herrmann.
The second half of extra time now. Just 15 minutes for either side to grab a winner, and avoid the dreaded penalty shoot out.
Borussia Monchengladbach are delighted as they watch their side harry their opponents, forcing them to retreat from the hosts' penalty area, right back to Neuer. Another great defensive performance from Favre's side.
The home crowd are livid as De Camargo is penalised for a foul on Alaba. The Austrian merely stood his ground as his Belgian counterpart looked to surge forward, and found himself floored in the process.
Yellow Card Tony Jantschke
Jantschke picks up a booking now, this time for tugging back Ribery.
Yellow Card Toni Kroos
Kroos picks up a booking for a late tackle on Herrmann as the Gladbach man looked to break.
Daems' cross finds De Camargo, but the Belgian's knock-down is nowhere near Reus.
Arango swings in another free kick (they've been fairly fruitful for Gladbach so far), but in his eagerness to get to the ball, Brouwers fouls his marker.
Inevitably, Bayern are forced to go long, with Ribery darting inside and shooting, but his effort trickles wide. Ter Stegen was scrambling across his goal,. but his goal was never in real danger there.
It's Bayern's turn to move forward, but they're brilliantly closed down, as they have been so many times in this match.
Some early Borussia pressure here. Reus, another star who's had a disappointing evening, sends a cross high and wide.
Wouldn't it be fitting if the two best defences in Europe (statistically speaking) had to be separated by a penalty shoot out? Will it come to that? Will we get a winner?
And we're back. Bayern get the first period of extra time started.
90' + 1'
Incidentally, Gladbach needed extra time to overcome Hertha Berlin in the last round. The closest Bayern came to needing it this season was when Robben scored a 91st minute winner against Bochum in the third round.
90' + 1'
No! We're going to have at least half an hour more, and possible even a penalty shoot out! Stay tuned.
90' + 1'
Closing seconds of normal time now. Can either side bag a winner?
Gomez, who hasn't had his finest evening in a Bayern shirt is penalised for bundling over his marker as a cross came in. He, like the rest of the Bayern front line, has been frustrated all evening.
Gustavo fells Reus, giving Arango the chance to put the ball in the box. The Venezuelan's cross is threatening, and Badstuber is forced to put it over his own bar with De Camargo waiting.
Gladbach's best chance of the match. Arango plays a ranging ball into the box which curls perfectly into Reus' path, but the 22-year-old's sliding effort is easily saved by Neuer. He really should have done better there.
And now a Gladbach chance! Brouwers gets ahead of Gustavo to head another Reus corner wide.
How that didn't go in, I'll have no idea. Gomez finally springs the offside trap, taking Kroos' through ball round Ter Stegen. However, he's pushed to wide, and is forced to pass to Robben, whose shot is blocked. Borussia Park breathes a collective sigh of relief.
It seems an additional 30 minutes is beckoning us here.
A long-throw from Jantschke is cleared as far as Reus, but the 22-year-old fails to get his effort under control and it goes well wide.
Igor De Camargo
Oh my. A second hand-ball from Gomez has ruined his side's chances of getting the opener once more. The corner comes in, evading everyone and finding it's way to Gomez, who decides to control it with his hand. It's needless, and Gladbach have a reprieve.
Nordtveit needlessly gives the ball away in the centre of midfield, and Ribery charges forward, winning a corner.
After an incredible opening to the second half, it seems to have died down a bit. Bayern's push has been halted by Gladbach playing keep-ball.
A concentrated period of possession for Bayern now. Lahm gets down the right, but Ter Stegen gets to his cross before Gomez. Could we be heading for extra time?
Some patient build up play from Bayern finds Muller on the right wing, but he doesn't get a hold of his cross properly and it swings out of play for a goal kick.
At the other end, Arjen Robben tries to bend one into the top corner, but the Dutchman gets his angles wrong and it goes harmlessly wide.
And the sub almost makes an instant impact. A threatening cross from Reus is cannoned into Brouwers' direction, but he's unable to get it under control, and Neuer grabs the loose ball.
Double change for Gladbach. Brouwers is coming on for the injured Stranzl, while Herrmann, who scored two against Bayern here two months ago, is on for Wendt.
More action at both ends. Gomez is denied by an excellent sliding tackle which launches a counter attack, but Reus misplaces the ball. Great stuff from either team.
The hosts move forward once more, with Arango feeding Hanke, but the German's chipped ball into the box is cleared away fairly easily.
Robben runs at Daems once more, but his time the Gladbach captain gets the better of the Dutchman this time.
And now Kroos has a long-range effort, but this one sails high and wide.
Reus forces a good save from Neuer with a powerful effort from the edge of the box. Plenty of venom behind the shot, but it was far too close to Neuer to truly trouble him.
Real end-to-end action here. Gomez holds the ball up well and plays in Robben, whose left-footed effort is saved by Ter Stegen. It was at a good height for the Gladbach 'keeper though.
Now it's Gladbach's turn to vent their anger at the officials. Wendt picks up the ball on the right, darts infield and is brought down in the area by Alaba's challenge. The referee, however, refuses to blow his whistle, despite the home crowd's protestations. It would have been a soft penalty, though.
AND AGAIN!!! Reus goes around Neuer, but is forced wide. He passes the ball back into the middle, and it finds Arango via a swipe from Hanke, but the Venezuelan blazes over when he should have done better. Great start to the second period.
First real chance of the second half. Robben plays a great one-two with Muller, accelerates away from Daems, and shoots into the side-netting.
Now Bayern have a corner, after a Thomas Muller through ball is deflected out of the onrushing Kroos' reach. Kroos takes the corner himself, but it's headed clear by Jantschke.
The 22-year-old's out-swinger finds Neustadter, who heads over. Decent effort, though.
Hanke plays in Reus, who wins and early corner than he will take himself.
And we're back! Bayern get the game back underway... No half-time changes, but Gladbach fans will have been glad to see Herrmann warming up during the break.
So, a great half, with plenty of chances at both ends, but there should perhaps be a goal by now. Arjen Robben has missed the pick of the chances for Bayern, with Reus squandering a great chance at the other end. Surely the opener won't be too far away...
Robben, Lahm and Muller combine well on the right, but with plenty of Gladbach bodies back, the referee decides to blow up for half-time.
ANOTHER CHANCE!!!! Hanke wins acorner on the right, which Arango expertly delivers. Dante loses his marker, but nods the ball wide. He should have done better there...
Yellow Card Arjen Robben
And Robben caps a bad couple of minutes by picking up the first booking of the game for a knee high tackle on Dante. Nasty challenge, there.
AND ANOTHER CHANCE!!! Ribery the architect again as he slips a gorgeous through ball to Alaba, whose shot is kept out of goal by Ter Stegen's outstretched hand. Bayern are certainly finishing the half on top.
What. A. Chance. Ribery beats his man down the right, and centres the ball to Robben. The Dutchman is completely unmarked, a matter of yards from the goal, but manages to send the ball well over. An absolute shocker of a miss.
Gladbach have the chance to break, but Reus' pass to Arango is badly misplaced and goes out of play for a Bayern throw. Very sloppy.
So, can we get an opener before half-time? The steady stream of Bayern chances has dried up, and although Gladbach have crafted a couple of openings, they've offered very little throughout the first half.
NEUER!! The Bayern 'keeper is clearly not in the mood to make any such mistakes tonight. Daems, of all people, cuts inside from the left and unleashes a ferocious right-footed effort that the former Schalke man beats away. Badstuber just stood off him, and allowed the shot to happen...
Manuel Neuer boots the ball clear, but is treated to some sarcastic cheers by the Borussia Park faithful, who clearly remember his poor clearance that led to Reus' opener in the league meeting here two months ago...
Well, simply put, Bayern should be ahead by now. They've had the opportunities. Gladbach have had just the one chance, which Reus squandered when he should have done better.
Robben swings in a corner which Ter Stegen drops! However, his defence is there to help him out and spare his blushes. Poor goalkeeping from the youngster, though.
A lovely flick in from the right wing finds Reus, but he's heavily monitored by the Bayern defence and the ball slips away from him.
And a great chance!! Kroos swings in the resulting free kick, but Gomez inexplicably decides to handle the ball. If he had resisted the urge, Muller would almost certainly have nodded his side in front. Silly decision from the 26-year-old.
And we're having a momentary break in play after Hanke's dangerously high foot catches Badstuber in the head.
Well, well, well. What a chance that was for Lucien Favre's side to take the lead, and a big warning to Bayern that their opponents can strike at any moment.
WHAT A CHANCE!!!! Neustadter plays a great ball through to Reus, but Neuer comes quickly off his line and blocks the Gladbach striker's shot. In the ensuing scrap, the hosts have half-hearted appeals for a penalty waved away.
Unlucky for the hosts. After a partially cleared long-throw, Gladbach work the ball back into the box. In the midst of the melee, it breaks to Wendt, who hasn't set himself well enough to react quickly enough, and the ball drifts harmlessly to Neuer.
So, a great start from Bayern, who have only been denied by the post, and good goalkeeping. Gladbach have shown the odd flash of good play, but Bayern have been the better of the two sides!
Neustadter gives away a needless free-kick in the middle of his own half, and almost pays for it. Bayern work the ball out right to Lahm, who puts in a superb cross onto Gomez's head, but Ter Stegen gets down and makes a brilliant save to divert it out for a corner.
Another long ball from Gladbach, but Nordtveit's pass towards Reus is wildly inaccurate and drifts out for a throw in.
Gladbach now try to play Reus in, but as the Dortmund-bound striker looked to skip past Jerome Boateng, his Germany team-mate came in with a superb challenge to nick possession.
Thomas Muller rises highest to flick on a long ball, but his header is too close to Ter Stegen, who seizes the ball before Gomez can get to it.
Badstuber trips Hanke and Gladbach look to break, but Arango's delivery is poor and easily cleared away by the Bayern back line. Great start from both teams!
Heavy boos from the Bayern Munich fans towards the officials, who controversially rule Mario Gomez offside as he looked to latch on to a long ball from Gustavo. The 26-year-old would have been in there.
OFF THE POST!!! Bayern move forward with Muller and Robben trying to play some intricate passing in the box. The ball is partially cleared by Dante as far as Kroos, who sends a well-placed effort beyond Ter Stegen's reach, only to see it bounce back off the woodwork.
Bayern immediately pump the ball forward, and Ter Stegen is forced to scurry off his line to volley the ball clear, which he manages to do, but it could have gone horribly wrong...
CHANCE!!! Gladbach attack down the left through Daems, who puts in a great ball towards Reus, but Neuer confidently punches the ball clear.
An aimless long ball gifts possession to Bayern, who charge forward down the right through Robben. The Dutchman is bundled over by Arango, but the referee merely gives a throw-in rather than a free kick.
And we're off! Borussia Monchengladbach get the game started and casually pass it around, giving most players an early touch.
So, we're just minutes away from kick-off. Stay tuned for all the action...
