First half goals from Lucas Barrios and Robert Lewandowski were enough to lift Dortmund to victory over Nurnberg, on a day that saw BVB secure the Bundesliga title.
The match was evenly played over the opening 45 minutes, but Nurnberg made two defensive mistakes, and the hosts took advantage by taking a commanding lead at the interval. After a chaotic string of partial clearances, Mario Gotze had his low drive parried, and Lucas Barrios tapped in the go-ahead goal on 32 minutes.
Ten minutes later, Javier Pinola was brushed aside as Robert Lewandowski turned the defender to claim a long ball, and the Pole delicately chipped over goalkeeper Raphael Schafer to make it 2-0.
In fairness, the score at half-time did not fully reflect the flow of play. The visitors enjoyed the majority of possession in spurts and for the most part, had their opponents under wraps defensively. Andreas Wolf had a clear chance to put der Club ahead on 14 minutes, but the defender smashed over the bar from 12 yards, and the visitors were made to pay for their mistakes.
Aside from the goals, Dortmund had a couple good opportunities to score. Kevin Grosskreutz had a long-ranged blast parried in the 12th minute, and shortly before his goal, Barrios mis-struck a free header into the ground and wide of the left post.
With the result all but decided, the game was less competitive in the second half. Christian Eigler had Nurnberg's best chance in the 56th minute as he slipped past Lukas Piszczek, but Roman Weidenfeller made a good kick-save to preserve the 2-0 scoreline. At the other end, Barrios and Neven Subotic missed narrowly with headers, but the biggest cheer from the crowd came 67 minutes into the game, when it was announced on the PA system that Koln had taken the lead against Leverkusen.
The result sees Nurnberg fall out of the race for a top five finish as they remain sixth, while it confirms Dortmund's first title in nine years.
