Live Commentary

  • Peter Gagelmann takes pity on Hoffe and blows the final whistle after a mere four seconds of stoppage time despite the occasional stoppage. Bayern and in particular Arjen Robben, were outstanding and Hoffe simply had no answer. Thanks for joining me today and do return in just over an hour for Kaiserslautern - Dortmund! Auf Wiedersehen!
  • 90'
Sigurdsson looks for the consolation goal but his right-foot strike is comfortably stopped by Kraft.
  • 89'
In fairness to Hoffenheim, they are a better side than they have shown today. A better side than Bayern have allowed them to be today. The home side are in cruise control as they see out the game although Schweinsteiger's ball is well cut out by Alaba. Salihovic undoes that good work with an aimless long punt forward, which is nowhere near Ibisevic.
  • 87'
Great run from Ribery and he looks to have threaded the perfect ball through to Mario Gomez, who is very very harshly pulled back for offside by the assistant referee. A tight call indeed.
  • 85'
Ironic cheers from some parts of the stadium and appreciative from others as space opens up for Babel who looks for his first goal in Germany but Kraft makes an easy save to his left from the Dutchman, who went for placement.
  • 84'
    SubstitutionArjen Robben Hamit Altıntop
  • 84'
Arjen Robben receives a standing ovation from the crowd as the two-goal hero is taken off for Hamit Altintop. The Dutchman underlined today just why he is considered as one of the best players in the world. Let him run at your peril.
  • 82'
    Yellow Card Sejad Salihovic
  • 82'
Frustration gets the better of Salihovic and he picks up a booking - his seventh of the campaign.
  • 81'
    Assist Franck Ribéry
  • 81'
    Goal Arjen Robben
  • 81'
TORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! ABSOLUTELY GLORIOUS FROM ARJEN ROBBEN!!!!! He bends the ball wonderfully into the opposite corner on his left peg. Quite magnificent - so much movement on the ball, which flummoxed Tom Starke. How Robben could be afforded so much room is almost as incredible as the execution of the strike itself.
  • 80'
Another fine turn from Weis opens up space on the left as he beats Lahm to the ball but Tymoschuk is quickly across to help out his team-mate.
  • 79'
Babel puts the cross in from the left, which lacks a great deal of pace but is floated up there, tempting Kraft out of his goal and the young goalkeeper makes no mistake. He is looking for his first clean sheet in the Bundesliga and is just over 11 minutes away from that. Will it now be a case of the commentator's curse?
  • 77'
    SubstitutionBoris Vukcevic Gylfi Sigurdsson
  • 77'
Hoffenheim's final change sees Gylfi Sigurdsson coming on for Boris Vukcevic. The Icelandic midfielder was perhaps a surprise omission from the starting line-up as he is a useful source of goals, especially from dead-ball situations.
  • 76'
As Hoffe prepare their final sub, Ribery's corner is eventually cleared by Weis after an airshot from Thomas Mueller. Robben is torturing the Hoffenheim defence today and he goes past Compper down the outside before winning a corner kick. Robben takes the corner and Starke punches the ball away with his right fist.
  • 75'
The tenacious Beck wins the ball for his side high up the field and plays in Ibisevic. However, as the striker lets fly, Tymoschuk puts his body on the line and makes an excellent block. Bayern counter and win a corner after Gomez is thwarted.
  • 74'
Some excellent passing in the midfield frustrates Hoffenheim and Alaba slides in a little too eagerly on Pranjic, conceding the free kick in the process.
  • 73'
Excellent defensive work from Bayern whose organised and disciplined shape allied to targeted pressing pushes Hoffe back into their own half, forcing the likes of Babel to have to come deeper to get involved. When Hoffe look for the ball over the top, Bayern are always alert to cut it out.
  • 72'
Good build-up play from Salihovic and then Weis leads to nothing as Ibertsberger's shot is blocked. Hoffenheim recover the ball and are keeping it well enough but they lack the tempo to their game to worry Bayern.
  • 71'
Pranjic gives the ball away, not for the first time, but he is able to win it back barely a second later. Bayern are so calm in possession, aided of course by their three-goal cushion. Robben wins a free-kick when he is tripped first by Weis and then by Salihovic who completes the hatchet job on the Dutchman.
  • 69'
Ribery dinks the ball back for Luiz Gustavo whose first time cross strikes Beck and goes behind for another Bayern corner. Ribery takes and picks out Tymoschuk just outside the box. The Ukrainian fluffs his volley although he was put under a good deal of pressure as Hoffe worked out what the plan was.
  • 68'
Beck gets around Ribery and gives the Frenchman a taste of his own medicine! Badstuber head the ball behind for a corner, which Compper had the chance to head towards goal but he mistimed his jump. In fairness, perhaps the delivery in from Salihovic was a touch too high.
  • 67'
Mueller cuts inside, which creates a gap for Ribery on the left. The Frenchman delivers a fizzing ball to the back post aiming for Robben but Ibertsberger slides in and puts the ball behind for a corner.
  • 65'
Vukcevic is down injured for a few moments after coming off worse from a Schweinsteiger challenge. Schweini is slightly injured too but both players shake hands, acknowledging the fact there was no malice involved on the part of either party. Just a coming together.
  • 64'
Robben ran at the Hoffenheim defence, coming inside from the right hand side on his left foot at top speed and as the space opened up for him, he drilled the ball into the bottom corner. Hoffe had plenty of numbers back but no-one took responsibility and Robben most certainly was not complaining.
  • 63'
    Assist Philipp Lahm
  • 63'
    Goal Arjen Robben
  • 63'
TORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR BAYERN!! Robben on the scoresheet and he puts the game beyond Hoffenheim! Hoffe paid the ultimate price for not closing the Dutchman down and he has his third goal in four games this season.
  • 62'
Hoffe are trying manfully and Salihovic is toiling away with some nice touches but it is not coming off for the away side at the moment, who lack the coherence and fluency of Bayern's offensive players.
  • 60'
Simunic is living dangerously today and he hacks the ball upfield in the nick of time as Gomez was threatening to charge it down and force another embarrassing mistake from the Aussie-born former Hertha man.
  • 59'
Babel looks to haul Hoffe back into the game but his cross from the right is overhit and then Weis miscontrols Vukcevic's second ball in from the left. As you can tell from the above sequence, Hoffe's wingers have switched sides in an effort to confound the Bayern defence.
  • 58'
    Yellow Card Andreas Beck
  • 58'
I said dangerous and it was a good effort from Ribery on target although Starke did not have too much trouble in punching it away with two fists.
  • 58'
Beck becomes the latest player to go into the book as he does a Simunic and leaves a leg in, knowing that he could ill afford to let Robben skin him down the left wing. Another free-kick in a dangerous area for Bayern.
  • 57'
A flattish delivery finds Schweinsteiger at the back stick after being flicked on by Vukcevic. He takes a touch and looks to strike it into the net on his right foot but Ibertsberger is in the way. And Robben is back on the field.
  • 56'
Simunic is punished for dilly-dallying on the ball and Bayern are able to break due to the Croatian's error. Gomez and Mueller almost had too much time between them and the latter is denied as he looks to place the ball in the opposite corner - Starke tips it behind and Ribery takes the corner.
  • 54'
    Yellow Card Josip Simunic
  • 54'
Robben is led off the field by two members of the medical staff after coming off worst from Simunic's sly challenge, in which the Croatian international dangled a leg in the Dutchman's path as the winger looked to go down the outside. Simunic receives a booking and rightly so.
  • 53'
Top work from Luiz Gustavo whose dispossession of Tobias Weis was like taking sweets from a baby as the saying goes. The jury is still out on the €15m man as a left-back but at the moment it is more important he plugs a problem position than that he slots in for the now departed Mark van Bommel.
  • 52'
Gomez gets to the by-line and floats the ball in to the near post looking for Mueller however, Compper gets an important head to the ball to keep the score at 2-0. Gomez is sporting a haircut remarkably similar to the World Cup Golden Boot winner.
  • 50'
Mueller finds Robben on the right - so quick is the Dutchman that the ball struck him on the heel. He recovers back to continue the attack, which ends up with Pranjic's cross-cum-shot from the left, which passes wide of the goal. The former Heerenveen man is yet to score this season but has six assists.
  • 49'
A scrappy period of play ends as Badstuber is fouled by Ibisevic and Bayern have a free-kick. Robben is then flattened by Ibertsberger seconds later giving Bayern a chance to get into their passing game once more.
  • 47'
Ibisevic lays the ball off to Beck whose first time cross is headed clear before the Bosnian and Schweini challenge for the ball ; the striker attempting a bicycle kick, à la Rooney in the Manchester derby. Ibisevic then lashes out at Schweinsteiger, who stands his ground and refuses to be drawn in to the hostilities. The Hoffe striker has been on the edge all afternoon if truth be told.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionIsaac Vorsah Josip Simunic
  • 46'
Hoffenheim have made a second change at the break, introducing veteran defender Josip Simunic in place of Isaac Vorsah who picked up a knock in the first-half to his knee. No changes for Bayern, who kick us off after the interval.
  • The half ends with Mueller annoyed at himself for not making more of Robben's ball into the box. Bayern lead 2-0 at the break and at times their football has been sensational. What is ominous is that they still look to have a lot left in the tank. Can Hoffenheim do a Koeln? Join me in fifteen minutes to find out! Bis dann.
  • 45'
There will be one additional minute at the end of the first-half. Robben gets in the cross from the right, which is headed away by Vorsah. Moments later, Compper heads Ribery's cross back to Starke.
  • 44'
Robben looks to burst into the penalty box as he goes through the gears but Compper makes a perfectly timed sliding challenge and wins the ball fairly.
  • 42'
Vukcevic puts an excellent cross into the box, which Pranjic takes no chances with, playing the ball behind for a corner. From the Salihovic corner, it's headed towards goal at the near post by Ibisevic but Kraft can save comfortably.
  • 40'
The flag is up for offside, which saves Hoffe after another great attack from Bayern. Mueller, had the chance to play it out to Robben on the right but he chose to shoot. It looped up over the defender to Gomez who was offside. Bayern showing some superb technique in tight spaces, which is proving too hot for the Hoffe defenders to handle at times.
  • 40'

It looped up over the defender to Gomez who was offside. Bayern showing some superb technique in tight spaces, which is proving too hot for the Hoffe defenders to handle at times.
  • 39'
Great save Starke!! Robben floats in the free-kick and Schweinsteiger is incredibly allowed to ghost into the penalty area unmarked. He stabs the ball towards goal and Starke reacts superbly to tip the ball over the crossbar in a fine reflex save.
  • 38'
    Yellow Card Tobias Weis
  • 38'
Substitute Tobias Weis picks up a booking for a clumsy challenge from the side on Mueller, with the studs up. It's his fourth booking of the season.
  • 37'
Excellent alertness from Badstuber who anticipated the run of Babel into the channel, got across and used his body strength to put himself between the player and the ball and win the free-kick.
  • 36'
Bayern sportingly put the ball out of play as Hoffenheim have a player down injured inside the penalty box, which is Vorsah. He has a problem with his left knee after being caught in a Starke - Mueller sandwich. Lots of ice being employed by the medical staff.
  • 35'
A rare mistake from Bayern at the back and Vukcevic scrambles the ball into the path of Ibisevic, whose shot is blocked. Salihovic then plays the ball back across goal and Badstuber is there to tidy up and avert an embarrassing episode for the home side.
  • 34'
Luiz Gustavo picks out Gomez over Mueller, with the striker in acres of space and indeed it was too good to be true as Gomez had strayed a couple of yards offside.
  • 33'
Glorious ball from Robben to Mueller however, just as Mueller is about to pull the trigger, the defender gets across and makes the block. Bayern have just upped the ante in the last minute or two.
  • 32'
Schweinsteiger with a fine interception and he immediately looks for Mueller, who wasting no time, tries to help it on to Robben but it's cut out. Hoffe's counter culminates in Kraft being forced into a comfortable save to his right from Salihovic's 25-yard effort.
  • 30'
Salihovic slides in on Schweinsteiger and makes a good tackle only to be caught on the face with a trailing elbow.
  • 28'
Pranjic runs into trouble in midfield and loses out however, Vukcevic's pass forward is too strong for Weis and Luiz Gustavo is able to recover the ball and take the throw-in.
  • 27'
Gomez limps off. Meanwhile, Ribery floats in the free-kick, which Vukcevic clears away. Hoffe counter with Vukcevic but Lahm is across to intercept before the pass can reach Ibisevic.
  • 26'
Beck goes in hard on Gomez's shin and the big striker looks to be in some pain. Beck was stretching for the ball and he clipped Gomez's knee with his studs. Gomez went down clutching his shin immediately and he is now being attended to by the medical staff.
  • 25'
Hoffenheim win a free-kick over on the left, which Salihovic takes as usual. Ibisevic makes contact with the back of his neck and so his now trademark appeal for the corner falls on deaf ears.
  • 24'
Bayern make more money through commercial revenue than any other team in world football - €172.9m last season. Their major sponsorship deal is with Deutsche Telekom, €22m a season guaranteed but with performance-related bonuses.
  • 22'
Luiz Gustavo looks to break forward for Bayern but his touch deserts him and Hoffe win it back. Despite Bayern's superiority, Hoffe have had more possession so far - with 57.8% of the ball. Of course, Bayern lead 2-0 in the only statistic that really counts!
  • 21'
Ribery gets around the outside of Beck and drills the cross in low on his left peg but it's cleared away to temporarily relieve the pressure on Hoffenheim. Bayern are really fired up and playing some outstanding football so far.
  • 20'
    SubstitutionSebastian Rudy Tobias Weis
Sebastian Rudy makes way for Tobias Weis and is understandably not too happy at being replaced. Weis will line up on the right of the midfield three and hopefully, from a Hoffe viewpoint, provide more solidity down that side.
  • 19'
Rudy wins the ball back with a strong but fair challenge. The ball breaks for Salihovic who lifts the ball over the crossbar with his left-footed strike.
  • 18'
Hoffenheim are understandably shellshocked and indeed Pezzaiouli is preparing to make a first substitution of the game. Tobias Weis has been called back from his warm up and is in the process of doing up his shoelaces as he readies himself for an early entrance.
  • 15'
    Assist Franck Ribéry
It's Mueller 7th goal of the league season to go with a further 7 assists. Excellent work from Ribery to set it up - the Frenchman retrieved the ball after his shot was saved at close range by an advancing Starke, having been played in initially by the man who would go on to eventually score the goal.
  • 15'
    Goal Thomas Müller
TORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR FC BAYERN MUNCHEN!! Bayern are rampant and Muller makes it 2-0!!!! The World Cup Golden Boot winner finds the near corner having come inside and beaten Alaba.
  • 14'
Decent ball from Beck from deep on the right-hand side. Ibisevic gets his head to the ball and he heads it wide though he was offside when the ball is played. Any attempts to win a corner were always futile on the part of the Bosnian striker.
  • 13'
Glorious work from Thomas Mueller to take the ball down, keep it under control and then backheel it into the path of Gomez despite the presence of several Hoffe defenders. However, Gomez's ensuing shot is then unsurprisingly blocked and he gives away a free-kick in his frustration.
  • 12'
Babel looks to come inside but he takes too long, biding his time for the right opportunity to shoot and Pranjic is able to make the block. Luiz Gustavo plays a neat ball through for Robben. The Dutchman cuts the ball back into the centre of the penalty box, looking for Gomez, but Ibertsberger is perfectly stationed to cut it out.
  • 11'
Bayern come again and confusion reigns inside the box as Compper hooks the ball away just before Starke gets there. Andreas Beck is then flattened in the follow-through. Tymoschuk then blasts the ball towards goal by which time Starke has recovered to make the save.
  • 10'
It is Ribery after all and without much of a run-up, he strikes the ball, which hits the wall and goes behind for the first corner of the game. Ribery takes that corner, which is cleared initially at the near post and then by Babel.
  • 9'
After thinking about it, Peter Gagelmann blows for a free-kick to Bayern after Mueller is felled by Rudy just outside the box in a central area. Ribery fancies this one, as does Tymoschuk. In fact, Robben is preparing to strike it!!
  • 8'
Babel brings down Schweinsteiger inside the centre circle and Bayern can build from midfield. Neither side showing a great deal of urgency although as I type that, Ibisevic is penalised for a foul on Tymoschuk from behind.
  • 7'
Boos from the Bayern crowd who want Hoffe to get on with it after another patient spell of possession. Vorsah ends up ceding possession as his long ball is cut out by Schweinsteiger. However, Hoffe win it back although the ball over the top evades Ibisevic.
  • 5'
Marco Pezzaiouli said before the game that Hoffe would come to attack and they have no other choice now. Beck looks to have space down the right and he finds Vukcevic but Bayern get bodies across and force Hoffe back into their own half. No panic from the men in blue in possession however. Salihovic swings in the cross from the left, which is overhit and goes out for a throw with Rudy unable to make up the ground.
  • 4'
Hoffenheim are looking to calm themselves down and keep the ball for a sustained period of time in order to play their way into this game.
  • 3'
The early goal has given the Allianz Stadium a real lift. Gomez has netted his 17th strike of the Bundesliga season and he showed why Bayern turned down two mega bids from Chelsea and Liverpool in the January transfer window.
  • 2'
    Assist Arjen Robben
Ribery found Mueller who spread the play to Robben on the right. The Dutchman, in far too much space, picked out Gomez perfectly and the in-form striker did the rest ; steering the ball home past a helpless Starke.
  • 2'
    Goal M. Gómez
TORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR FC BAYERN MUNCHEN!!! Mario Gomez!!! An incredible start for the champions with Ribery, Mueller and Robben all combining to devastating effect!!
  • 1'
Hoffenheim look to attack from the off but Luiz Gustavo makes an important intervention in the opening seconds to snuff out any hopes of a lightning quick start for the visitors.
  • 1'
Referee Peter Gagelmann gets us underway. Hoffenheim kick off in their all blue strips and Bayern are in their usual red and white. First time in 9 months Robbery have played together.
  • Hoffenheim: Starke - Beck, Vorsah, Compper, Ibertsberger - Rudy, Alaba, Salihovic - Vukevic, Ibisevic, Babel. Subs: Sigurdsson, Weis, Firmino, Mlapa, Haas (gk), Simunic, Jaissle
  • Bayern Munich: Kraft - Lahm, Tymoschuk, Badstuber, Luiz Gustavo - Schweinsteiger, Pranjic - Robben, Mueller, Ribery - Gomez. Subs: Breno, Butt (gk), Klose, van Buyten, Hamit Altintop, Ottl
  • There is considerable anticipation ahead of the game with the news that Robbery are reunited in the starting line up. Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery can finally link up and if that was not tempting enough, there is the mouthwatering prospect of Thomas Mueller between them and Mario Gomez leading the line. Luiz Gustavo faces his former club for the first time and David Alaba lines up against Bayern.
  • Guten Tag and Willkommen to's live commentary of the clash between Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim. Two of Germany's most attacking teams square up today with Bayern looking to bounce back after surrendering a two goal lead last week to lose in Koeln. Hoffenheim were involved in a five goal thriller of their own but came out on top against Kaiserslautern.
