Had one scary moment in the 60th minute when he kicked the ball right into Derdiyok, but was solid otherwise. Pulled off some good saves today.
D. Van Buyten
Back to his best from four years ago. Unshakable at the back, giving Derdiyok a torrid game, and had a hand in two goals. Made a mistake in the build-up to Bayer Leverkusen's only goal of the game however.
The right-back completely neutralised the threat of Renato Augusto. Bombed forward every chance he could. An excellent display.
Forced to leave the pitch after picking up an injury in the 15th minute. Did well before that.
Was immense in the centre of the pitch earlier this season and did not disappoint today. Sprayed the ball around superbly and covered a lot of ground.
More than deserved his goal as he ran like a man possessed today. Unstoppable on the flank, and always tracking back to help Contento out.
Rock-solid at the back, and rarely gave anything away. Distributed well from defence, and tackled superbly.
Had Mario Gomez scored one less goal, Schweinsteiger would have been top of the match. He bulldozed Bayer Leverkusen in midfield today with crunching tackles and stunning work-rate and provided two assists. A world-class performance from the Germany international.
Back to his best today as he provided two assists and was a nightmare for Castro on the right wing. He terrorized Vidal after the wing-back was replaced at half-time, and never stopped running today.
Silenced his critics with a scintillating performance. Scored a hat-trick in 18 minutes to effectively end the game as a contest, and was oozing confidence whenever he was on the ball.
He was not very comfortable playing behind Gomez, but did well nonetheless. Went on a few good runs, and showed good intuition.
Scared off potential suitors with an abysmal performance today. Did not make a single save and this really tells the whole story.
Played way too close to Reinartz, and lacked the pace to deal with Mario Gomez. His positioning let him down on more than one occasion.
Had a torrid time against Thomas Muller as he had no answer to the World Cup 2010 Golden Boot winner's direct running. Substituted at half-time, and was at fault for at least two goals today.
The best player for Bayer Leverkusen today. Tried really hard to make things work in attack, but faced Contento in a very good form. Had a few dangerous shots at goal.
Had an interesting duel with Ribery today, and was pretty solid at the back. Did not go forward often however.
Played out of the park in every sense as he first struggled against Schweinsteiger in the centre of the pitch, and then against Muller on the left wing. Was on the receiving end of some tough tackles.
Had a miserable game. Scored an own-goal and chased shadows for most of the encounter.
His new tan was the only thing surprising in his game today. Missed two good chances in both halves and did not really impress.
Nutmegged by Ribery for Bayern Munich's fifth, and generally had a bad game. His marking and hesitancy to close down opponents let down the Werkself today.
Took his only chance of the game well, but was generally marked out of the game by Daniel Van Buyten. Looked isolated for big parts of the game.
- 36 F. Giefer
- 17 D. Vida
Short 10-minute cameo.
- 4 S. Hyypiä
Came on for Gonzalo Castro at half-time and replaced Arturo Vidal in the centre of the pitch. Had a better game than the Chilean in the middle of the park.
- 7 T. Barnetta
Missed a glorious chance three minutes after coming on, and generally had a bad game.
