AND IT IS OVER! The referee blows his whistle for the end of the game! Bayern Munich record one of their biggest wins against Bayer Leverkusen winning 5-1! Simon Rolfes opened the scoring with an own-goal early on, and Mario Gomez bagged a hat-trick before half-time. Eren Derdiyok clawed one back for Bayer Leverkusen, but Franck Ribery answered with the fifth and last goal for this game! Bayern Munich reclaim third place in the standings after Hannover failed to win yesterday! Stay with us for our post-match materials and do not forget to join us later today four our live coverage of Napoli - Udinese later today!
A wonderful attack from Bayer Leverkusen ends at the feet of Tymoshchuk, who makes a delightful clearance. Die Werkself pulled off some delightful one-touch passes there.
Ottl! Hits the bar! Then Mueller! Dispossessed! First Ottl had a shot from inside the box hit the bar, and then Mueller failed to turn with the ball on the right side of the penalty area. It was nearly six here!
Breno also came on for Daniel Van Buyten moments ago. The big Belgian had a stunning game today, barring his only mistake in the build-up to Bayer Leverkusen's sole goal so far.
Daniel Van Buyten
Andreas Ottl substituted Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Vidal left for Michal Kadlec three minutes ago. 'Schweini' had a great game today, unlike Arturo Vidal.
SIDNEY SAM! The striker send a wonderful shot from outside the box, but his thunderous drive missed narrowly to the left!
It is probably safe to say now that Bayern Munich have the three points in the bag. Stranger things have probably happened, but I, personally, have not seen four goals in twelve minutes.
Yellow Card Arturo Vidal
Talk about efficiency! Four shots on goal for Bayern Munich and five goals! If you are wondering how that is possible, I remind you that Simon Rolfes scored an own-goal today.
Assist Daniel Van Buyten
Goal Franck Ribéry
5-1! FRANCK RIBERY! He certainly deserved a goal today! The midfielder superbly slid the ball between Reinartz's legs and finished low from the right side of the box.
Rolfes with a handball in the centre of the pitch, and should have received a booking here.
BALLACK! Into the wall, then DERDIYOK! Jorg-Butt saves the Swiss striker's powerful volley from 20 yards out.
Bayer Leverkusen with a great chance to get another goal from a free-kick outside the box. Michael Ballack is behind the ball.
BALLACK! Great chance for the ex-Germany national team captain! The midfielder was picked out just outside the six-yard box in an offside position, but flashed his header over the bar! Big miss from the ex-Bayern Munich player.
Most probably Derdiyok's strike will be a mere consolation, but anything can happen in football as everyone seems to say nowadays.
MUELLER! Bayern Munich break away on the counter with Thomas Mueller on the right wing, but the World Cup 2010 Golden Boot winner sees his cross for Mario Gomez cleared in the centre of the box.
Bayern Munich concede a couple of corners, the ball is cleared, brought back into the box, and it IS 4-1. Eren Derdiyok pulls one back for Bayer Leverkusen! Van Buyten did not make the best of clearance and the ball landed just ahead of the Swiss striker, who volleyed just before Bastian Schweinsteiger could block his shot.
Goal Eren Derdiyok
Miroslav Klose fouls Arturo Vidal on the right wing. The Chilean has taken a fair share of rough tackles by Bayern Munich players.
Butt with a comical moment as he clears a ball right into the path of Eren Derdiyok. Luckily for him, he is able to reach for the ball and hoof it away.
KIESSLING! The strike was picked out by Balitsch on the left side of the box, but failed to connect properly with his head and his finish went wide on the left post.
Tymoshchuk was booked for a crunching lunge on Sidney Sam! He is playing with fire in his belly!
GOMEZ! The striker superbly dribbled on the right side of the box before cutting back for Mueller who was just a step too much ahead to reach for the ball near the penalty spot.
Yellow Card Anatoliy Tymoshchuk
Van Buyten superbly wins the ball on the right wing from Renato Augusto. The big Belgian has had a great game today.
Bayer Leverkusen are passing the ball at the back comfortably, looking for space to exploit in Bayern Munich's thick midfield and defensive line.
Ribery superbly backtracks to dispossess Hanno Balitsch and win a throw-in for Bayern Munich, and to think he was at risk for this game! He looks fitter than ever!
Lars Bender replaced Gonzalo Castro. The full-back had an abysmal game with three goals coming from his zone.
The second half begins ...
45' + 2'
The first half is over. Bayern Munich are on course to record one of their biggest wins against Bayer Leverkusen! Simon Rolfes gave Die Roten the lead with an own goal in the 7th minute, and Bundesliga top goalscorer Mario Gomez bagged a hat-trick in eighteen minutes. This seems to be over as a contest, but with Bayern Munich throwing away lesser leads than this, one never knows! Join us after the break for the second half of this game.

GOAL! MARIO GOMEZ WITH A HAT-TRICK! Bayern Munich hit Bayer Leverkusen on the counter! Bastian Schweinsteiger released Mario Gomez on the right side of the box, and the strike powered a finish past Rene Adler and it is 4-0. Bayern Munich will withdraw at half-time with a healthy lead!

Goal M. Gómez
GOAL! MARIO GOMEZ COMPLETES HIS BRACE! Van Buyten of all joined the attack and powered his way into Bayer Leverkusen's box before squaring for Mueller, who in turn send a superb cross for Gomez on the left side of the box, and the Bundesliga's leading goalscorer converted from close range.
Sidney Sam tries to power his way past Contento, but the full-back makes a vital interception and clears the ball.
Schweinsteiger has been a freight train in the centre of the pitch today, running like a man possessed and closing down opponents. Certainly an improvement over his recent performances.
Cleared by Reinartz into the path of Augusto, who tip-toes ahead of Diego Contento, but the full-back manages to outrun the Brazilian and block him to the ball as Die Roten win a throw-in on the left.
Lahm on a rampaging run on the right and manages to win a corner-kick on the right. Ribery will take it.
Great intervention by Diego Contento as he clears the ball ahead of Renato Augusto. In all honesty, however, he was the first one to make the mistake that started this attack by Die Werkself.
GOMEZ! FREE ON GOAL! Offside! The striker was released on the right side of the box, and saw his finish saved by Adler. It was offside anyway.
BAYERN MUNICH! ALMOST THREE! Ribery send in a looping cross from the left, Mueller managed to latch on to the ball, send a low cross for Gomez, but it was cleared. Adler was way out of position here and this was a golden chance!
Renato Augusto with a rough tackle on Bastian Schweinsteiger and is lucky to get away with it. The Bayern Munich captain looks surprisingly healthy today.
This is certainly the best possible start Andrea Jonker could have had to his caretaker career as Bayern Munich coach. Die Roten are two up and are oozing confidence!
GOAL! BAYERN MUNICH DOUBLE THEIR LEAD! MARIO GOMEZ SCORES! Thomas Mueller won the ball near the corner flag, tried to get past Vidal, but saw his ball blocked. He raced to win it again, superbly managed to pick out Gomez in the centre of the box, and the striker do deftly flick past Adler here.

Goal M. Gómez
Klose and Ribery run like men possessed as they try to take the ball away from Balitsch. The Bayer Leverkusen defender finds Renato Augusto on the wing, but the Brazilian is dispossessed by another Brazilian, namely Luzi Gustavo.
Schweinsteiger scythes down Vidal with a crunching tackle and is lucky not to be booked here.
Ottmar Hitzfeld is there in the stands to support Bayern Munich today. 'The General' led Die Rekordmeister to their most recent Champions League triumph in 2001.
Bayer Leverkusen are playing some wonderful football here with some delightful one-touch passes. The last attack from Die Werkself ended with Daniel Van Buyten winning the ball yet again for Die Roten.
Balitsch is send flying by a strong push by Ribery! The French winger could have been shown the yellow card here!
Interesting statistics here ....... : ...... The combination of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery have been involved in 15 of Die Roten's last 18 goals!
Gomez ruins two wonderful flicks by sending a very poor cross which allows Bayer Leverkusen to attack on the counter with Ballack releasing Eren Derdiyok on the left, but the Swiss attacker is stopped by Daniel Van Buyten.
Contento comes on for Pranjic, who has been plagued by fatigue in the last month. He was substituted against Inter in the first leg of the Champions League between the Nerazzurri and Die Rekordmeister.
Wonderful run by Gomez on the left as he tip-toes the ball past Balitsch, and then crosses for Tymoshchuk, who in turn tees it up for Schweinsteiger, but Schwaab is first to the ball and clears the danger.
Mueller tries to go past Castro, but the defender makes a wonderful sliding tackle and The Bavarians win a throw-in on the right.
Now Bayer Leverkusen are on the front foot and are trying to penetrate Bayern Munich's defence through the wings. Renato Augusto just won a free-kick outside the box.
A breath of relief for the Bayern Munich faithful! If Bayern Munich hold on to these result, they will leapfrog Hannover in third place!
Assist Bastian Schweinsteiger
Own Goal Simon Rolfes
GOAL! BAYERN MUNICH TAKE THE LEAD! Rolfes own goal! The midfielder was the wrong place, at the wrong time and the ball met his head after a corner kick, and it is Bayern Munich 1-0 Bayer Leverkusen!
BALLACK! The ex-Bayern Munich man was released on the left side of the box by Sidney Sam, but was well blocked by Lahm, and Die Roten cleared the danger.
Vidal is bulldozed by Schweinsteiger in the centre of the pitch and wins a free-kick for his team. It promises to be an exciting duel between these two in the middle of the park today.
Bayern look fired up for this one and are starting to lay a siege on Bayer Leverkusen's goal. Moments ago Mario Gomez had the first strike on goal, but his header went straight into Adler's head.
