  • FULL TIME! Dortmund have got their second-half of the season off to the perfect start with a brilliant 3-1 win over their main title challengers Leverkusen. Three goals in ten minutes after the break put pay to Bayer's hopes and they are now 13 points behind Dortmund. Thanks for joining me, do take time to read our report and ratings. Join us tomorrow for more coverage, including Wolfsburg-Bayern and Schalke-HSV. Until then, Auf Wiedersehen.
  • 90' + 2'
Another presentable effort from outside the box from Lewandowski, who drills his shot low towards goal, where it's easily held onto by Rene Adler.
  • 90' + 1'
Piszczek is down and clutching his right boot after being caught by Castro with a late challenge. The former Hertha man gets up and is fine to see out the final few minutes of this game.
  • 90'
After a foul from Kuba, Leverkusen put a decent ball into the box but Piszczek's header back is claimed by Weidenfeller. There will be three minutes of stoppage time.
  • 89'
There's a little altercation between Vidal and Sahin as the Chilean refuses to accept that he was the guilty party but it's soon calmed down by the referee.
  • 87'
    SubstitutionKevin Großkreutz Felipe Santana
  • 87'
Dortmund make a tactical change, bringing off two-goal hero Kevin Grosskreutz for a third centre-half in the shape of Felipe Santana.
  • 85'
Kiessling is a reinvigorated man! Brilliant play to nick the ball away from Schmelzer before firing off the shot, which is narrowly wide of the goal. At least die Werkself are showing glimpses of why they are in the top three of this league.
  • 84'
Vidal releases Castro on the overlap but the cross is smashed upfield in no-nonsense fashion by Subotic. Dortmund are trying to soak up the pressure and maintain their two-goal cushion.
  • 83'
Leverkusen win a corner off Piszczek and it's an excellent delivery into the box from Renato Augusto but Manuel Friedrich's header goes wide. The defender puts his hands to his forehead as he knows that was a big chance to make it 3-2! Bayer are not quite dead and buried yet!!
  • 82'
Only the second goal of the season for Kiessling but a welcome confidence boost for the striker who has missed a huge chunk of the campaign through injury. It restores respectability to the scoreline and gives Bayer some hope.
  • 81'
Renato Augusto it was with the ball in from the right - a delicious curling ball, which took Weidenfeller out of the game. The ball bounced wickedly across the penalty box to Kiessling at the back post and he got in behind Hummels to divert the ball home.
  • 80'
    AssistRenato Augusto
  • 80'
    GoalStefan Kießling
  • 80'
TORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR LEVERKUSEN - Stefan Kiessling has slid the ball home at the back post but he has also hurt himself in the process - his momentum took him into the post and his shin took a very painful blow. Fingers crossed he will be OK.
  • 79'
The Dortmund fans have been brilliant all evening, outsinging the home supporters and they have had every reason to be cheerful. Magnificent defending from Subotic to snuff out Derdiyok who tried to control Vidal's through-ball into the box.
  • 77'
Barrios runs in behind the defence and looks to cross into the box. It takes a deflection off Reinartz before Schwaab takes no chances and puts the ball behind for a corner, which Sahin will take.
  • 74'
Weidenfeller punches away the free-kick from Vidal with both fists. Brilliant play from Castro to get down the left and around the outside. No-one wants to shoot for die Werkself before Renato Augusto eventually puts his foot through it. Hummels is in the way, right in front of Weidenfeller, and he deflects the ball behind to the cries of handball from sections of the crowd.
  • 72'
Vidal is a little too overenthusiastic there as he fouls Sahin. Not even the triple change has done anything to alter the dynamic and probable outcome of this match.
  • 70'
    Yellow CardManuel Friedrich
  • 70'
Well won by Kuba in defence and he looks to spring Barrios forward in behind the defence. However, Adler reads the ball well and he comes out of his area to clear. Barrios acknowledges the goalkeeper's fine anticipation. Moments later, Barrios goes for goal from the wide position and once more Adler is up to the task, as he tips the ball over before claiming the subsequent corner with ease.
  • 68'
    SubstitutionMario Götze L. Barrios
A chance for the 7000 strong Dortmund contingent to applaud Mario Goetze off the field and rightly so - he's been superb in place of Kagawa. Lucas Barrios is his replacement - Lewandowski will play just off the Paraguayan international.
  • 68'
Barnetta finds fellow sub Vidal but the Chilean's shot is blocked by Hummels. Kiessling's header is then comfortably saved by Weidenfeller, who could have caught that in his sleep.
  • 67'
Vidal falls under the challenge of Goetze inside the Dortmund box but the whistle had already been blown. Barrios is getting ready to come on for the last 20 minutes or so.
  • 66'
Barnetta and Derdiyok between them try to force a way through the defence but they lose the ball in the sea of yellow shirts. Dortmund attack with Kuba and Goetze - outstanding play from the youngster, who wins the throw-in. He is having a ball out there and Reinartz looks completely bewildered out there
  • 64'
And not even Adler can escape the comedy of errors as his attempted clearance upfield crashes off Schwaab and behind for a corner.
  • 63'
Vidal is rightly penalised for a trip from behind on Da Silva, much to the consternation of the home crowd.
  • 62'
Castro jinks inside and receives the ball back but his shot squirts hopelessly wide of the goal. Dortmund looking very comfortable against a shellshocked Leverkusen.
  • 61'
    SubstitutionLars Bender Arturo Vidal
Vidal - eight goal Vidal - comes on for Lars Bender. We won't see Ballack at all this evening.
  • 60'
    SubstitutionPatrick Helmes Eren Derdiyok
Barnetta's compatriot Eren Derdiyok enters the fray in place of Patrick Helmes as Heynckes makes a switch upfront.
  • 60'
    SubstitutionSidney Sam Tranquillo Barnetta
Sidney Sam comes off for fellow winger Tranquillo Barnetta, who of course scored in the reverse game between these two sides.
  • 59'
That's more like it from Leverkusen. Sam, over on the right, runs at Schmelzer before coming inside and firing off a decent shot on goal, which Weidenfeller comfortably saves. Barnetta about to come on.
  • 58'
An astonishing three goal blitz from Dortmund after the break but they have been hugely aided by some haphazard defending from Leverkusen and in particular, Manuel Friedrich.
  • 55'
    AssistKevin Großkreutz
Once again, Leverkusen have no answer to a long-throw from Piszczek. Manuel Friedrich makes a complete dog's dinner of the interception and Mario Goetze is allowed to race through on goal. The Kagawa replacement keeps his head and strokes the ball past Adler.
  • 55'
    GoalMario Götze
TORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR BVB!!!! Do not adjust your screen! They have scored again and this time it's Mario Goetze who slides the ball home under Adler and it is 3-0 for Dortmund.
  • 54'
Manuel Friedrich went asleep and Grosskreutz latched on to Lewandowski's header before smashing the ball into the net. Atrocious defending on both goals from Manuel Friedrich, who got the nod from Jupp Heynckes after some good form in December.
  • 53'
    Yellow CardKevin Großkreutz
That was the fifth goal of the season for Grosskreutz, who was booked for an emotional celebration in which he ran over to the Dortmund fans. Harsh but those are the (ridiculous) rules.
  • 53'
    GoalKevin Großkreutz
TORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR BVB!!! Kevin Grosskreutz at the double!!! Another horror show in the Leverkusen defence and Grosskreutz blasts the ball home with aplomb. 2-0 for the league leaders.
  • 50'
Piszczek's long throw evaded the Leverkusen defence. There was a handball from Schwaab but play continued and Grosskreutz found himself free, in behind the right-back before firing home past a helpless Adler. A deserved lead for the league leaders.
  • 49'
    GoalKevin Großkreutz
TORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR BVB!!!!!! First goal of the Ruckrunde is scored by Kevin Grosskreutz who smashed the ball home at the far post.
  • 48'
Kuba bursts in behind the Leverkusen defence and fires a cross in at the near post. Lewandowski almost gets there but Adler clears behind his own goal in unorthodox fashion and the ensuing corner is headed clear and out for a throw.
  • 47'
Da Silva's first contribution is a foul, and again Kiessling is the victim! Helmes goes for goal from 35 yards out but his free-kick finds the well-placed Weidenfeller.
  • 47'
Goetze tries an outrageous flick with the outside of the boot to release Kuba but Castro steps in. Sahin is then penalised for a foul on Kiessling, which caught the striker in the nether regions shall we say!
  • 46'
    SubstitutionSven Bender Antônio da Silva
  • 46'
Dortmund kick us off in the second period after waiting for the Leverkusen side to emerge from the dressing room. Still no Ballack, though he did warm up quite vigorously at the break.
  • 46'
Welcome back for the second half. Dortmund have made one change at the break with veteran midfielder Antonio da Silva replacing Sven Bender in the midfield.
  • Michael Ballack is warming up at the half-time break. He heads a very strong looking Leverkusen bench - could he make an impact off the bench? Meanwhile, it looks like Antonio da Silva will come on for Dortmund.
  • The half-time whistle blows and it's scoreless at the break. Both teams have given little away although Sven Bender struck the post and Lewandowski was denied by Adler when 1v1. Join me in fifteen minutes for the second-half.
  • 45'
There will be one additional minute at the end of this first-half.
  • 45'
Lewandowski stirs up the cries of anticipation from the away fans but he's wrongly flagged for offside when he looked to be level with the last defender.
  • 43'
So nearly for Leverkusen! Renato Augusto flashes the ball across goal from the right-hand side of the box but it's so well hit that Kiessling and Helmes cannot possibly catch up to poke it towards goal.
  • 42'
Leverkusen fail to deal with Goetze's corner as Adler failed to come with authority, provoking confusion among the men in black and red. However, the ball is eventually scrambled clear at the far post.
  • 42'
Lewandowski fires a shot off from distance and again it takes a deflection, this time off Schwaab's back and it's another corner for Dortmund.
  • 41'
Excellent tackle from Schmelzer to stop Schwaab in his tracks. Bayer look to build again but there's no way through the yellow wall.
  • 40'
Grosskreutz loses out in midfield after an excellent bit of play from Sahin to escape the pressing of Helmes. The move eventually leads to the cross from Sam, stood up for Kiessling in the penalty box. He leaps between Hummels and Subotic but he can't quite keep his header under the crossbar and a relieved Weidenfeller sees it over.
  • 38'
Helmes wins the free-kick off Grosskreutz who for some reason was tracking the striker. Good hold-up play from the striker, who needs to get more involved in his side's attacking play.
  • 37'
Excellent work from Rolfes, first to win the tackle then to retrieve the loose ball and play it forward. Sam gets the cross is from the left after sprinting in behind Piszczek but Hummels is there in the ideal position to slide the ball behind for a corner away from the onrushing Helmes. Top class defending from Hummels.
  • 36'
Kiessling receives a stern telling off from the referee for an illegal challenge on Sahin on the halfway line. Leverkusen certainly don't need to be reduced to ten men against a side of BVB's quality.
  • 34'
The corner is headed away at the near post before Goetze looks to recycle the ball and keep the attack alive. His first touch is brilliant ,taking him past the first man but Reinartz comes across and the ball goes harmlessly behind.
  • 33'
Schwaab loses out to Lewandowski, who goes for goal from distance. His shot takes a deflection off Manuel Friedrich and curls around the post. Adler had it covered but it was a scare for Bayer and BVB have a corner.
  • 32'
A wasteful ball from Sam, which only succeeds in finding Schmelzer, who calmly heads the ball back to Weidenfeller. The former HSV winger has been disappointing so far down the left. Maybe a swap with Renato Augusto would be worth trying until half-time.
  • 31'
A hopeless shot "on goal" from Kuba after Lewandowski did well to help on Goetze's pass. Kuba's effort seemed more an attempt to find the Dortmund fans in the corner than to score a goal.
  • 30'
Renato Augusto draws the free-kick for his side as he waits for Marcel Schmelzer to obstruct his progress. Free-kick around 35 yards from goal right of centre but Weidenfeller comes out of his goal to claim Augusto's ball in with ease.
  • 28'
Schwaab is caught out by Grosskreutz after a lax touch. Good pressure from the left winger before the right-back recovers to force a throw and prevent Grosskreutz from racing down the flank.
  • 27'
A sloppy touch from Renato Augusto allows the ball to go out of play as Dortmund look to get their combination play going in order to outwit this Leverkusen defence.
  • 25'
BVB looking to apply some pressure but the Leverkusen defence holds firm and Augusto plays what looks to be a great ball for Kiessling but it's just too strong for the striker, who missed a lot of the Hinrunde through injury.
  • 23'
Adler to the rescue!!! Defence splitting ball through to Lewandowski but Adler was wide awake, even if his defence were not and he spreads himself in front of the Polish striker and makes a very, very important stop!
  • 22'
Some neat passing from Dortmund comes to an end when Renato Augusto wins the ball back from Grosskreutz but they're unable to take advantage of their endeavours.
  • 20'
Terrific ball to the far post by Piszczek looking for Grosskreutz at the back stick and an even better defensive header from Schwaab behind for Dortmund's first corner - from which Hummels flashes his header wide!!! Adler came and did not collect but he did enough to put off the big centre-half.
  • 19'
    Yellow CardStefan Kießling
  • 19'
The first yellow card of the Rueckrunde goes to Stefan Kiessling for a foul on Sven Bender who came in from behind and fell victim to the striker's high boot, being caught in the face.
  • 18'
Nice interplay between Kuba and Goetze but the Pole's cross is headed away at the near post. Sam looks to counter down that left side but he also sees his cross find an opponent.
  • 17'
Sahin plays the ball forward to Lewandowski but he was fooling no-one with the handball up against Reinartz. Free-kick taken by Adler upfield.
  • 16'
Excellent sliding tackle from Lars Bender to then feed Castro on the left. His cross is blocked but Dortmund fail to initially clear their lines. However, at the second-time of asking, Subotic clears up the mess. A few nerves from both sides at the back in the opening 15 minutes.
  • 15'
Hummels looks for the ball in behind Reinartz to find Kuba but it's slightly overhit and it goes through to Adler. However, Rolfes then loses the ball and lets in Dortmund. The move breaks down when Kuba slips - never a foul there from Castro the left-back.
  • 13'
Kiessling plays an excellent ball, which was intended for Helmes but finds Sam on the left-hand side. However, Piszczek and then Kuba thrwart Leverkusen's progress.
  • 11'
Outstanding defending from Neven Subotic!!! Kiessling breaches the offside trap and races through on goal. However, the Serbian defender raced back and put in a timely sliding challenge on the striker to put the ball behind for a corner.
  • 11'
Kiessling leaps to flick on Adler's goal kick however the understated but impressive Piszczek tidies up and strokes the ball back to his goalkeeper.
  • 9'
Leverkusen get the advantage from the referee but they fail to capitalise as Helmes' cross into the centre is disappointing and straight to Weidenfeller. Renato Augusto meanwhile is down injured and Weidenfeller puts the ball out of play. Sven Bender pleads his case to the referee, that he was going for the ball, even if it looks ungainly on the replay.
  • 8'
A rather curious ball played back from Sahin to Weidenfeller from the centre circle. Dortmund will now look to build from the back. Subotic's long-ball forward is headed clear by Manuel Friedrich.
  • 7'
Brilliant move from Leverkusen, which almost comes off down this right-hand side however Renato Augusto was just a little too ambitious with his touch and not even the pacy Brazilian could beat Weidenfeller to the ball on that occasion.
  • 6'
Disapproving howls from the home fans as Kiessling is penalised for bundling over Sahin. Dortmund take the free-kick quickly however, Lewandowski is offside as he goes up for the ball with Adler.
  • 6'
Great ball from Kuba to Goetze as Dortmund counter but Castro gets across and makes the interception before he's caught by the playmaker.
  • 5'
A nervous moment for Manuel Friedrich at the back as he eventually shepherds behind for a goal kick with Robert Lewandowski lurking inside the box.
  • 4'
Dortmund win another free-kick, this time slightly more towards the left. Goetze takes this time but it's straight into the arms of Adler.
  • 4'
OFF THE POST!!! A brilliant delivery from Sahin onto the head of Sven Bender whose header strikes the post with Adler beaten! Almost the opening goal for the visitors.
  • 3'
Leverkusen lose the ball on the halfway line and Kevin Grosskreutz storms forward before he is fouled by Lars Bender as the two tussled with each other. Free-kick around 35 yards from goal.
  • 1'
The 7000 strong Dortmund contingent are bouncing up and down in the corner. An impressive number given that they were originally allocated 3000 tickets.
  • 1'
Referee Peter Gagelmann gets us underway as Patrick Helmes and Stefan Kiessling kick us off.
  • The players come out to the Starwars music and there's no shortage of top stars on either side. Leverkusen are in their black and red strips with der BVB in yellow and black.
  • Juergen Klopp's first Bundesliga game in charge of Dortmund was a 3-2 win away to Leverkusen on 16 August 2008. I predicted the exact same scoreline tonight. However, Leverkusen have just one defeat in the last 22 games and will be a tough nut to crack, their defensive frailties at home notwithstanding.
  • Borussia Dortmund: Weidenfeller - Piszczek, Hummels, Subotic, Schmelzer - Sven Bender, Sahin - Kuba, Götze, Großkreutz - Lewandowski. Subs: Barrios, Feulner, Felipe Santana, Dede, Antonio da Silva, Langerak (gk), Zidan
  • Bayer Leverkusen: Adler - Schwaab, Reinartz, M Friedrich, Castro - Sam, Lars Bender, Rolfes, Renato Augusto - Kießling, Helmes. Subs: Barnetta, Balitsch, Giefer (gk), Ballack, Vidal, Hyypiä, Derdiyok
  • As for Dortmund, Lucas Barrios has been deemed not quite fit enough to start after a virus and so his able deputy Robert Lewandowski is the lone striker. Mario Goetze is handed the role of Shinji Kagawa-Ersatz in between Kuba and Kevin Grosskreutz. It's 4-2-3-1 as usual for the runaway league leaders.
  • Jupp Heynckes' intentions were betrayed earlier in the week with the news that he will go in to tonight's game with a 4-4-2 system. There is no place for veteran Sami Hyypia in the defence and Arturo Vidal joins the Finn on the bench as Lars Bender is given the nod in midfield alongside Simon Rolfes. The Chilean missed some training sessions during the week looking after his son, who was ill. Thanks to @cheekybackheel for that snippet of info!
  • Guten Abend und it gives me great pleasure to welcome you all back to the Bundesliga. It's been a very eventful winter break but there's no substitute for the action on the pitch. And what a clash we have to open the Rueckrunde - league leaders Borussia Dortmund's trip to the Bay Arena to face third-placed Bayer Leverkusen. Die Werkself beat der BVB on the opening day of the season 2-0 with goals from Tranquillo Barnetta and Renato Augusto. I'm Gary Niblock and I'll be guiding you through the best of the action this evening. Any comments, feel free to tweet either myself @goalGary or my distinguished and erudite colleague Clark Whitney @Mr_Bundesliga.
