Thankyou for following on Goal.com!
The referee calls time! Barcelona survive a late scare and take all three points! A good performance from them, and had they been just a little more clinical it could have been four or five goals, but Getafe would not roll over and accept defeat. Great match!
90' + 3'
Getafe are nearly, nearly able to grab a vital and impressive point, as they play a great ball into the box, and Pique is able to clear his lines! Great defending!
90' + 1'
Barcelona again piling the pressure on Los Azulones, passing brilliantly in front of goal, and patiently looking to probe the backline.
Villa comes off after a poor performance, to be replaced by Jeffren.
AssistVíctor Sánchez Mata
GoalManu Del Moral
2-1! El Geta in with a shout! Manu picked up a lovely cross from the right wing, and blasted the ball past Alves and into the net! We could be in for an exciting end to the night now!
Yellow CardPedro Mosquera
Los Azulones still controlling play here. They are doing a good job of stifling Barcelona's possession play, but it's come far too late as they are on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline.
Andrés Iniesta Luján
Messi attempts to get through the Getafe defence with a pass to Villa, but there are three men between him and the Spanish forward, who stop the pass from running through.
The result here may be no surprise, but what is perhaps more of a shock is that of Barcelona's front three, it has been Bojan who has looked sharpest tonight. Villa's not having a great night, and Messi is creating chances, but just doesn't look clinical in front of goal.
Michel makes a change to his side, as Parejo comes off to be replaced by Pedro Mosquera.
The game has really lost a lot of it's spark in these last few minutes. Both sides still looking to go forward, but looking somewhat ineffective.
Getafe's defence again under pressure, as they are forced to witness a brilliant passing move right under their noses, but eventually intervene and Codina picks up the loose ball ater a Xavi pass was deflected high towards him.
Getafe go close as a corner is swung into the head of Manu, who puts his attempt narrowly wide of the post! Good effort!
Bojan comes off to be replaced by Seydou Keita, another player who doesn't necessarily get much playing time, but is in brilliant form lately.
Los Cules applying pressure again now, as Bojan attempts to swing a cross into the box from the right wing, but cannot find a way past the defence.
Barcelona trying to push forward now, but they are met by a resolute defence.
The game really slowing down now, with Barcelona passing well in midfield.
A great run by Messi ends with a brilliant tackle stopping the Argentine in his tracks! He ran across the defence brilliantly, stumbling once but springing to his feet in no time, and is unlucky not to have built a really threatening attack.
David Villa forces Codina into a fairly easy save with a long range effort. It was hit well, but was never really going to challenge the man between the sticks.
Barca slowing the game down now, just moving the ball around midfield, and doing well.
The Blaugrana again pushing forward as Villa, who is having a surprisingly bad game, picks up the ball on the left and tries to play Messi in for goal, but his pass finds its way into Codina's hands.
Another nice attacking move for Barcelona, as Messi finds Bojan on the right side, and Bojan looks to play a ball through for Villa, which is way too long and goes out for a goal kick.
Barcelona really in the swing of things after that goal, as they now look to go forward again, as Iniesta switches the ball over to the right wing, looking for the run of Alves, but the pass is a little too long and goes out of touch.
GOAL! Bojan counfounds his critics! He's come under a lot of fire this season, and has scored in two consecutive games now! A great pass from Messi found him on the right side of the box, and he made no mistake in placing it into the corner of the net! Great goal!
Slow start to the second half here, neither side really able to string together a series of meaningful passes.
The second half is underway now!
The referee calls time on the first half! A good performance from Barcelona sees them 1-0 up at half-time, but Getafe have looked dangerous, and the Blaugrana defence have looked shaky, so anything could happen in the second half!
45' + 40'
Getafe looking the better side in the last few minutes to be honest, playing Barcelona at their own game and passing the ball around well.
45' + 36'
Ibrahim Affelay is ready to come onto the pitch, and he will take the place of Andres Iniesta, who has had a surprisingly quiet night.
Villa comes close to doubling Barcelona's lead, but he fires just wide! A brilliant ball came over the defence and found the Asturian inside the box, but he fires his effort the wrong side of the post.
Los Cules are enjoying a strong period of dominance, passing the ball brilliantly in midfield, and really controlling the tempo of the game. No rush to go forward.
Barcelona have had three penalty shouts denied so far, although all three looked like dives. Unbefitting of a side that prides themselves on their work ethic.
Barcelona calling for another penalty now, and they are denied again! Villa passed the ball across the box to Bojan, who went down under what appeared to be very minimal contact from the defender! Had he carried on running, he might have been able to score!
Xavi goes close for Barcelona! A wonderful passing move in front of the defensive line ends with Alves finding Xavi just inside the 18 yard box, and the midfielder has a go, but his effort is just wide of the post! It was far from a powerful strike, and it looked as though the keeper had it covered in truth.
Victor Valdes called into action for the first time, as captain Casquero picks up the ball inside the six-yard box, and puts his effort straight at the keeper! Brilliant opportunity for Getafe, and the skipper really should have buried it!
David Villa has a pop from the left side of the box, but Cata Diaz is able to get in the way! Crucial block!
Getafe have a freekick in midfield now, as Mascherano commits a pointless foul. It's not his first foul of the game, and he's lucky not to have been booked yet.
Yellow CardDavid Villa
Villa picks up a yellow card for diving inside the box, deserved. It was a definite dive looking for the penalty, and the referee was wise to it.
The Blaugrana are really in control of this game, passing brilliantly in midfield and constantly pushing forward. Getafe still look a threat on the counter, but Barca have had a few good chances, and it could easily be 2-0.
Messi takes the free-kick, and fires it into the wall.
Yellow CardCata Díaz
Cata Diaz picks up a yellow card for a nasty challenge on Lionel Messi, and now Barcelona have a free-kick in a dangerous position. Xavi and Messi standing over it.
It appears that Getafe have weathered the storm, as they are limiting Barcelona to the middle of the park for now, but the Catalans keep looking for a way forward.
NEARLY! In an eventful few seconds, Barcelona are denied a penalty claim by David Villa, probably the right decision, and Messi rounds the 'keeper, only to see his effort blocked on the line, and Villa fires his rebound over the bar! Crazy pressure from Barcelona!
That goal really isn't the type you expect to see from Barcelona, who have been known to walk the ball into the net, and memories of Andres Iniesta's Stamford Bridge wonder goal in the 2009 Champions League semi-final spring to mind.
GOAL! ALVES! The Brazilian full-back picks up the ball about 25 yards out after a poor clearance, and powers a first-time shot straight into the back of the net. Beautiful goal!
Arizmendi has a pop for Getafe, just inside the box, after some sloppy defending allows him to pick up the ball, but he fires wide.
Barcelona forward now, and Bojan attempts to cross into the box, but it's too close to Codina, who comes off his line and catches the ball without any real difficulty. Right idea from the young Spaniard though.
Getafe attempt to get forward again, as Cata Diaz swings a pass over to Manu on the left wing, but he's caught offside.
Getafe, though unable to carve out any real opportunities so far, are showing a willingness to attack. Barcelona's defence looking surprisingly strong so far.
Worth remembering that if Lionel Messi is able to score tonight it will be the fifth consecutive league game in which he has done so.
SO CLOSE FOR BARCELONA! Xavi lifts a fantastic pass over the defence, to Messi who was onside when the ball was played. The Argentine traps the ball on his chest, before attempting an extravagant bicycle kick, which Codina was wise to and makes a quality save to deny La Pulga. Great chance, and a great save!
Corner is swung in, and cleared with ease.
Barcelona look dangerous as Adriano picks up the ball on the left wing, but a good challenge reduces the threat and Barcelona have a corner.
Barcelona looking somewhat desperate so far. Getafe are passing well and forcing Barcelona to chase the ball, and the Catalans are biting.
Yellow CardDaniel Alves
Alves picks up an early, deserved yellow card for a lunge on Manu, as the striker attempted to charge down the left wing. Nasty challenge, and Alves needs to be more careful if he wants to avoid adding to Barcelona's woes in that area of the pitch.
Barcelona get the game underway, after a minutes silence to honour the victims of the recent earthquake in Japan.
One has to wonder how Barcelona will do in defence tonight, as Milito is forced into the side for a rare start, and Ardiano features at left-back, a position he is perfectly capable of playing in, but he hasn't featured there much since signing for Barcelona.
And Getafe will line up as follows: Codina; Sanchez, Marcano, Cata Diaz, Torres; Arizmendi, Casquero, Parejo, Borja; Albin, Manu
Good news for Barcelona as Alves and Messi, who have both battled injuries in the week, are both set to start. Full line-up: Valdes; Alves, Pique, Milito, Adriano; Xavi, Mascherano, Iniesta; Villa, Messi, Bojan
Hello and welcome to Goal.com's coverage of Barcelona's La Liga clash with Getafe! Two attractive sides on display, and Getafe are likely to try and take the game to Barcelona. Should be a good game!
