Could do nothing about the goal and was otherwise a spectator.
Not as impressive as he can be but still a positive influence down the right-hand side. Tried his luck from long range on a couple of occasions.
A forgettable first half in which he lost possession and was caught out of position. Also should have got a head on Xavi's cross. Improved after the break but perhaps could have got a tackle in as Bayer scored the consolation.
Did well defensively and linked up well down the left-hand side before departing in the second half.
Positive in defence in the absence of Puyol and did just enough to put off Derdiyok as the Germans almost pulled a goal back in the second half. But in truth, he was rarely tested.
Slightly below his best but still controlled the midfield along with Iniesta before both departed. Provided an assist for Messi's first with a brilliant through ball and was given a rest with the tie long over.
Didn't have his shooting boots on but provided an assist for both Messi and Tello, as well as some excellent link-up play.
Buzzed around the Leverkusen area and set up Messi's second goal in a lively display. Replaced early in the second half, along with Xavi, with his presence no longer needed.
A quiet night for the midfielder, who kept it simple and played some good passes. Little to do defensively, especially in the second period.
His worrying dip in form continues and on a night when Barca scored seven, he never looked likely. Looks to be lacking confidence and missed one fantastic opportunity. Not as involved as he should have been.
Five goals in a wonderful performance from the Argentine. Opened the scoring with a neat effort clipped into the corner, cut in from the right to slot home a great second, chipped Leno with his right foot for the third, netted a fourth from an angle and then curled in a great fifth. And it could have been more. A perfect performance.
Made one good save early on from Pedro, but was poorly positioned for Messi's first goal and should have saved Tello's second. A miserable night.
Much like Schwaab, he cannot be blamed too heavily as Messi produced a masterclass, but none of the back four got tight enough on their rivals and Barca's forwards were allowed far too much space around the Bayer box. Caught out time and again.
Did well up against Pedro, but the Tenerife-born winger wasn't on his game anyway. Struggled, like the rest of his defensive team-mates, to deal with the threat of Messi, who cut in to score once from the right and clipped another over Leno from a position Kadlec should have been covering.
Started well and made some strong tackles in the first half, but was ultimately overrun by the brilliance of Messi and Tello. Could have done with more support from this midfield.
Some brief moments down the left as he ventured forward in the first half, he also helped restrict the threat posed by Dani Alves. Leverkusen were pushed back for large spells, however, and he had little impact in the attacking third.
Made one vital intervention in the second half, but was beaten at will by substitute Tello, who came on and scored both of his goals down the left. Also allowed Messi to escape for Barca's first.
The only Leverkusen man who could compete with Barca in midfield, the tireless Germany international shackled Dani Alves, denying Barca width on the right. Senselessly substituted by Dutt early in the second half.
Unable to provide much of an outlet on the right and was pegged back deep to help with the defending. That still didn't stop both Messi and Tello casuing havoc down that channel. Offered little in an attacking sense.
Chased shadows for most of the game, as he was clearly out of his league. The captian had neither the technique nor the quickness required to match Barca in midfield, and was a reactionary. Did well to assist Bellarabi's goal, but it was far, far too little, and far too late.
Looked dangerous early in the contest, running into the channels and dragging Pique out of position, but what is an attacking player to do in such a one-sided match? In the end, disappeared completely from the action.
The striker had a thankless task, receiving little of the ball at the business end of the pitch. One neat piece of skill fashioned a chance that drifted across the face of goal, but not a night he will remember fondly.
- 13 Pinto
Came on for Adriano and slotted in well at the back. Not responsible for the late Leverkusen goal.
- 32 Bartra
- 39 Cuenca
A late substitute, the Malian threatened with a header and was a positive presence.
- 30 Sergi Roberto
Scored within a minute of his Champions League debut and added another six minutes later. One for the future and on this evidence, the present as well. Much more dangerous than Pedro.
- 36 F. Giefer
- 5 M. Friedrich
Replaced Renato with 23 minutes left but offered little as Barca continued to rack up their goal tally.
- 17 M. Ortega
Came on as a second-half substitute and showcased his motor on occasion, but those instances were few and far between. For all his talent and ability, he had no lasting effect on the game. Could take a lesson from Bellarabi.
- 28 E. Zenga
Came on as a late substitute and troubled the hosts with his running. Played a great 1-2 with Rolfes and scored a consolation goal with a brilliant finish. With two goals in as many games, he surely must be closing in on a starting berth.
