A. Friedrich 50' (own goal)
M. Gómez 44', 90'
That's all from here - I hope you enjoyed tonight's coverage. Until next time, all the best.
Tonight's result is a very bitter one for Austria, who deserved at least a point. In the end, Gomez may have been lucky with his first goal, but did very well to score the winner, and that made all the difference.
FULL TIME! The free kick is struck well over the bar and the final whistle sounds! Germany preserve their perfect record in qualifying with three more points!

90' + 3'
Dennis Aogo replaces Kroos. Meanwhile there is one last chance for Austria as Schurrle concedes a free kick well outside the box...
90' + 1'
Yellow CardM. Gómez
GOMEZ SCORES! 2-1 TO GERMANY! Following a corner, the ball is only partly cleared and Lahm receives the ball on the right. The captain plays a perfect cross to Gomez at the far post, and the Bayern man heads a powerful strike into the net!
Germany are camped out in their attacking area now - they've played three consecutive corners...
Hoffer leaves to a warm round of applause from the fans, and Marc Janko comes in as his replacement.
Yellow CardMesut Özil
Ozil now booked for dissent after kicking the ball away. Frustration brewing for Germany...
Muller tries to take Fuchs on in a one-on-one on the right flank, but the Mainz full-back tracks his run well and forces a back-pass. Fuchs has had an excellent match tonight...
The crowd wants a free kick for Muller's challenge on Fuchs, but instead, the whistle is blown in favour of the visitors. Free kick to Germany deep in their own half.
Less than 10 minutes to go and neither side looks like scoring. Austria need better than a draw if they are to stand a chance of qualifying, while Germany will really want to win this match for prestige.
Yellow CardPaul Scharner
Glorious turn by Ozil as he nutmegs Scharner. The centre-back takes down the Real Madrid man with a rugby tackle and earns a well-deserved booking.
Muller and Lahm combine well on the right, but Austria manage to clear. Hoffer and Friedrich are in a foot race on the other end, and the German manages to put the ball out for a throw-in.
HARNIK! Power but no accuracy from the forward after he receives a good return ball from Junuzovic. Harnik's shot misses well wide of the right post.
Solid team defending from the hosts as Fuchs gives Muller no room to use with his right foot, and Pogatetz then clears from the return of a nice 1-2 with Ozil.
Ozil plays Muller into space on the right, but the Bayern man's low cross is rather poorly struck, and easily collected.
Harnik! A speculative shot from distance, but worth a go for the Stuttgart man, who along with Alaba has been quite impressive tonight.
Next substitution for Germany: Holger Badstuber replaces Khedira, who clearly is not 100% fit after a long absence. Hummels moves into midfield.
Andre Schurrle, who recently scored his first international goal against Uruguay, replaces Podolski.
Here's an attacking substitution from the hosts - Zlatko Junuzovic comes on for Dag.
The visitors are uncharacteristically struggling with their technique now - they're giving away the ball far more easily than they do on the regular..
Ozil's free kick is deflected out for a corner. The next set dead ball is defended quite well by the hosts, who have played on their heels for the last couple minutes...
Clever play by Gomez, who plays a dummy allowing Ozil's ball to find its way to Muller. The right-winger has Fuchs beaten for pace, and wins a free kick just outside the right side of the penalty area...
Lahm gets forward on an overlapping run, but his low cross is weak and collected at the near post.
Interesting statistics: Austria have committed 13 fouls to Germany's three, but the hosts have had 51% of possession.
Very cagey stuff right now - the game is quite compressed in the middle third of the pitch. There is very little space with which to work - the question now is whether one team has enough class to take the lead.
KULOVITS HITS THE POST! He had very little angle to use but powerfully struck his shot off the outside of the left post. Austria really taking the game to their visitors now!
Own GoalArne Friedrich
GOAL! FRIEDRICH PUTS THE BALL INTO HIS OWN NET! Alaba receives a long cross near the left side of the box and delivers the ball low and towards Harnik. Friedrich sticks his leg out and redirects into his own net!
GOMEZ! Excellent work but woeful finish from the Bayern man! Ozil plays a glorious no-look pass to the striker, who makes an excellent turn past his marker and blasts well over the bar! That should have been Germany's second goal!
AND THE SECOND HALF BEGINS!
The players are returning to the pitch now and the second half is almost underway...
AND THAT'S ALL FOR NOW! Half-time in Austria. The hosts had arguably the best chance of the half and deserved at least a draw going into the break, but with typical predatory instinct, Gomez put in the only goal of the half. This one is far from over - I will be back in 15 minutes to keep you up to date with all the action.
TOOOOOOOOOOOR!!! GOMEZ SCORES AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY! Kroos delivers the corner and Friedrich heads the ball into Gomez's chest. The Bayern man connects with just enough force to send the ball into the net from about a yard out. It's a messy goal, but he'll take it!
Muller shows his class as he dribbles past two defenders on the right flank, but his chipped cross is cleared out for a corner.
HOFFER! WHAT A CHANCE!!! Klein overlaps on the right flank and cuts back for the striker, who makes a clever turn to beat Friedrich. Lahm and Neuer sprint out to hurry his final shot, which misses agonisingly wide of the left post!
MULLER! Ozil takes a short corner and the Bayern man does very well to head the ball towards goal. He connects a bit low on the ball, however, and the shot misses narrowly over the bar.
For not the first time tonight, Alaba wins the ball in midfield and bursts forward. This time, his ball is far too strong and goes out for a throw-in.
Joachim Low is very unsettled on the touchline and has just been reminded by the fourth official to stay inside his technical area. He is displeased for good reason - Austria are allowing precious little space for their visitors.
Austria have greatly improved in possession over the last 15 minutes or so. Early on they had only about a third of the total time on the ball, but now the records show they have commanded 47% of the possession.
There's a rare mistake from Neuer! Alaba whips in a free kick that the newly-signed Bayern man is unable to reach. The ball lands at the feet of Pogatetz, who cannot react quickly enough and deflects the ball wide.
Yellow CardJulian Baumgartlinger
First yellow card goes to Baumgartlinger after some classy moves from the Germans. Ozil cleverly dribbles out of traffic deep in his own half and plays the ball to Muller, who powers past Baumgartilinger and is pulled down from behind.
Oh, what a wasted chance ! Dag is brilliantly found open at the edge of the penalty area, but takes far too long to shoot. Schmelzer recovers, and makes a good block.
Hoffer finds himself free from Kroos and wins a free kick slightly right of centre, and from very long distance. Fuchs goes straight for goal, but misses well over the bar.
Scharner has a go from well outside the box, but it takes more to beat Neuer, who collects quite comfortably near the left post.
Klein anticipates a pass and bursts forward to intercept. Khedira appears late in reacting to his run and appears to pull the right-back's shirt, but play continues as he wins the ball back. That might have deserved a foul and a yellow card...
Alaba steals the ball away and tries to quickly thread the ball through to the ever-active Harnik, but Hummels reads the play well, intercepts, and clears.
Austria are playing a dangerous game now - they concede another free kick in a dangerous area, but again Germany fail to capitalise as Ozil's curling effort goes high and wide of the far post.
Replays show that Friedrich did not quite reach the ball, and there was some contact with Hoffer inside the box. The contact was not very much, but penalties have been given for as much of an infraction.
Penalty? No! The left side of the German defence is torn apart, and Hoffer is set up in the middle of the box. Friedrich does just enough to slide-tackle the ball off the Kaiserslautern man and out for a goal kick...
GOMEZ! Kroos' cross reaches the head of the Bayern man, but Gratzei is well positioned to make the save.
Neither team is conceding an inch - this match took no time to heat up and has been quite a spectacle thus far...
Another chance for Germany! Gomez reaches a through ball on the left byline ahead of Gratzei and crosses low. The ball trickles to Fuchs, who manages to clear off his goal line just ahead of Khedira.
PODOLSKI HITS THE BAR! Riveting football from the visitors now - from the corner, the Koln man tees up a trademark left-footed shot from the edge of the box, but it clangs off the crossbar.
GOMEZ! WHAT A CHANCE! Ozil flicks a clever first-touch ball that sees the Bayern man through on goal. Gomez manages to stick out a leg, but Gratzei does just enough to deflect the ball wide!
Germany concede another free kick, but this time Austria are not able to make anything of it.
HARNIK! Oh, what a chance for the hosts! Khedira concedes a free kick to the Stuttgart man, and Fuchs plays an excellent cross. Harnik meets the ball ahead of Friedrich and heads with good power, but misses slightly to the right of the target.
There is an early roar from the home fans as Hoffer receives the ball in the centre and 30 yards from goal, but he is quickly dispossessed.
AND WE'RE UNDERWAY!
The players are on the pitch and we're getting ready to kick off at the Ernst Happel Stadion... The home fans are out in number tonight, but a formidable contingent of Germany fans can be found in the stands.
Subs: Adler, Wiese, Howedes, Gotze, Schurrle, Aogo, Badstuber
And for Germany: Neuer; Lahm, Friedrich, Hummels, Schmelzer; Khedira, Kroos; Muller, Ozil, Podolski; Gomez
Subs: Berger, Ortlechner, Junuzovic, Royer, Schrammel, Janko, Kienast
Starting line-ups are in. For Austria: Gratzei; F. Klein, Scharner, Pogatetz, Fuchs; Kulovits, Baumgartlinger; Ekrem Dag, Alaba, Harnik, Hoffer
Austria have a bit of a climb if they are to qualify - they are currently fourth, but are three points behind Belgium in second place and have a game in hand.
Germany enter tonight's match with a perfect 15 points from five Euro 2012 qualifiers, and wins tonight and against Azerbaijan next week would put the Mannschaft on the brink of qualification for next summer's tournament.
