• Estadio Vicente Calderón, Madrid
Referee: Alejandro José Hernández Hernández
• Attendance: 45000
David Villa 18'
I. Rakitić 73'
Credit where it's due to Sevilla as he stretched their unbeaten league run to eight games. They thoroughly deserved their point in a game that lacked any real chances at either end. I've been Tom Maston and thanks for joining me.
And with that the final whistle blows. Atletico have missed the chance to go top of the table after needlessly conceding a second half penalty, and Simeone will not be happy with the lack of urgency his side showed to kill the game off.
90' + 4'
Some excellent footwork from Rodriguez wins a corner on the right. Last chance for the hosts but Fazio heads clear.
90' + 2'
Costa appeals for a penalty as Fazio seemingly punches him in the chest, but the referee sees nothing untoward. He does, however, book the centre-half soon after.
Yellow CardIvan Rakitic
RED CARD!!! Drama here and Sevilla will have to play the final moments with ten men. Moreno is the man to walk after he first conceded a free-kick before he was pushed by Godin. That seems very harsh but he has to go.
Koke, who has been disappointing this evening, is replaced by Sosa for the final minutes.
Still no way through for the home side, though they are not helping themselves with some poor balls into the box. Sevilla seem happy with a point and are inviting the pressure on.
A final change for the visitors as Bacca is replaced by former Atletico man Reyes.
Almost all the play is now taking place inside the Sevilla half, though the visitors are standing firm as the pressure begins to grow.
Simeone makes his first change as goalscorer Villa is withdrawn. Rodriguez is on in his place.
Koke's cross from the left is deflected, and though Bastos' catch is fairly comfortable he comes very close to falling back over his own goalline. Some appeals from supporters but in the end he kept the ball out.
All of a sudden the hosts are throwing more bodies forward. They have certainly been guilty of not putting this one to bed and they could yet be made to pay.
Atletico do indeed begin to push forward again as Gabi whips in a cross from the right but Costa can only head it over the top.
Penalty GoalIvan Rakitic
GOAL!!! Rakitic goes to Courtois' right, and though the goalkeeper guesses right, he cannot reach it and Sevilla are level. Atletico will have to show some more urgency now to win this one.
PENALTY TO SEVILLA!!! Huge moment here as Juanfran is penalised for pulling Bacca's shirt. A silly foul and the full-back is booked for his troubles.
Villa looks to find some space for himself as he takes the ball onto his left foot just inside the area, but his chipped effort is too high and Bastos can watch it over his crossbar.
Still no real chances for either side in the second half as we enter the final quarter. Atletico know if they keep a seventh consecutive home clean sheet they will be top of La Liga tonight.
Sevilla are starting to see more of the ball but they just don't quite have the guile to open Atletico up at the back.
Sevilla make their second change as Marin comes on for Vitolo while for the hosts Costa just fails to catch a volley perfectly and Bastos can collect with ease.
Rakitic's set-piece is a poor one as it fails to beat the first man. Vitolo then fares little better as his cross is too high for everyone and goes out for a goal kick.
Possibly a chance here for Sevilla as Garcia is penalised for a high foot around 30 yards from goal...
Juanfran has done well in an attacking sense for the hosts this evening, though on his latest foray he can't provide those in the middle an opportunity as Moreno defends well.
Gameiro is again involved as he trades passes with Vitolo on the left-hand side of the Atletico box. The chance to cross goes, though, after both show poor control.
Finally Atletico test Bastos again as Garcia finds some space to run into and shoot from distance, only for the goalkeeper to get down well to his left and turn it behind.
Gabi loses the ball in midfield and Rakitic tries his luck from 50 yards with Courtois just off his line. The Belgian gets back quickly, however, and holds on comfortably.
Gameiro's presence is certainly asking a few more questions of the Atletico defence as he looks to run the channels and create space for Bacca and the oncoming midfielders. The forward just needs to keep hold of the ball better when he gets it.
As in the first half Atletico are having the monopoly of possession without really creating much for Costa or Villa up front. Still fairly comfortable for the hosts.
Sevilla have reverted to a 4-4-2 with Gameiro now on, and he is straight into the action as he knocks down for Bacca to shoot from the edge of the area, but Courtois is able to hold on with ease.
Sevilla kick-off having replaced Pareja with Gameiro and we are back underway in Madrid...
The players are beginning to make their way back out onto the field of play ahead of the second half. Atletico have been comfortable enough on the ball though Simeone will be hoping for a second goal to really kill this game off.
Sevilla took a while to get going but they have created a couple of chances in the first half and are very much still in this one. I'll be back in ten minutes to see if they can find an equaliser and deny their hosts top spot.
The half-time whistle blows and Atletico lead through Villa's goal despite not being quite at their best. They created plenty before the deadlock was broken, but since they have been happy just to keep possession in the middle of the park.
There should be little stoppage time at the end of the half as it looks as if the hosts will take a lead in with them at the break.
Now it's the Sevilla players who are unhappy after Gabi goes into a challenge with his studs up but the referee keeps his cards in his pocket this time.
Simeone is not happy on the touchline as a Carrico challenge on Gabi goes unpunished by the referee. The Sevilla midfielder has already been booked and needs to be careful.
A professional enough display from the hosts thus far despite creating little in the last 20 minutes. Remember an Atletico win sees them go two points clear at the top of La Liga.
Vitolo and Rakitic are beginning to have slightly more influence on the game for the visitors, with Koke especially struggling to compete in the middle of the park.
Some pain for Bastos as he spills an innocuous Filipe cross and is caught in the face by Costa's boot as he looks to retrieve it. A let-off for the goalkeeper.
Little in the way of goalmouth action as we start to edge towards the half-time break. Still plenty of possession for the hosts but far less urgency in their attacking play.
Simeone's side have struggled to create much since Villa gave them the lead, and you can sense Sevilla beginning to grow in confidence. There recent away record cannot be underestimated.
Sevilla have certainly improved since going behind, and they look to test Courtois again as Coke hits a bouncing ball just wide from distance.
Almost some ugly scenes as Vitolo and Godin go head to head, though the Atletico man quickly diffuses the situation.
A second booking for the visitors as Carrico is penalised for a trip on Garcia in midfield.
A first save for Courtois to make as a long throw causes some problems and Moreno is able to head goalwards, only for the Chelsea loanee to hold comfortably.
Sevilla at last find some possession around the hosts' area, but Bacca's pass is behind the onrushing Rakitic and Atletico can clear. The visitors are doing themselves no favours at present.
Atletico's dominance is highlighted by the amount of time Miranda and Godin are being allowed on the ball. The centre-back pairing have been allowed to pass the ball at will with Sevilla sitting far too deep.
Despite there only being one goal in it, Sevilla already have a mountain to climb if they are to get anything from this on. Atletico's defence is as mean as it comes and the visitors have barely made it out of their own half as yet.
GOAL!!! Finally the hosts make one of their opportunities count and it is Villa who finds the net. A corner from the left is nodded back across the six-yard box, and Bastos makes a hash of his punch clear, allowing the Spain man to volley home from 10 yards. A deserved lead.
Costa is really starting to make an impact as he is sent clear by Villa, only for Pareja to make an excellent last-ditch challenge.
Another half-chance for Atletico as Bacca fails to sufficiently clear a corner from the left and Costa manages to get away a shot, only for it to be blocked inside the six-yard box.
SIDE NETTING! Superb play from Costa almost gives the hosts the lead as he shows great feet to turn Navarro after Garcia's pass, but his effort from 25 yards is just wide of Bastos' left-hand post.
Yellow CardNicolás Pareja
First yellow card of the evening as Pareja is booked for wrestling Costa to the ground.
Best chance of the match so far as Villa shows great fee on the edge of the area to play in Filipe, but the full-back miscues his effort and it goes well over the top. Costa is far from impressed that he wasn't found in the middle.
Certainly not a thrilling start to this match, with Sevilla holding fairly firm despite having less of the possession. No clearcut chances for either side as yet.
Another excellent ball is swung into the Sevilla box, this time by Gabi, but Costa can't quite get over the top of it and sees his header fly high and wide.
Navarro has been the most involved of the Sevilla players thus far, with the left-back looking to get the ball forward at every opportunity. Juanfran is yet to be troubled by any of the passes as yet.
Turan does well on the left-hand side to win a corner, but the hosts waste it after taking it short. Atletico have certainly been the brighter in the opening exchanges.
Atletico have the first half-chance of the evening as a free-kick is floated in from midway inside the Sevilla half, but Miranda cannot control his header at the back post and it loops harmlessly over the bar.
The referee blows his whistle and Atletico get us underway...
The two teams have made their way out onto the pitch and the pre-match handshakes have been completed. We are all set for the final action from Spain of the weekend.
The players have completed their warm-ups and are making their way out of the dressing rooms and into the tunnel. There is a decent crowd in as they wait to see if the hosts can go to the summit of La Liga.
There are just over five minutes now until kick-off at Estadio Vicente Calderon as this season's surprise package look to reach new heights under the continually impressive Simeone. Few would bet against them getting the job done despite Sevilla's recent resurgence.
The full-time whistle has gone in Valencia and Barcelona have been held by Levante. That is two dropped points for the Catalan side, and Atletico now know a win this evening will see them go two points clear.
Sevilla's recent record against Atletico is nothing to write home about, with tonight's visitors winless in there last eight matches against Los Rojiblancos. There last win over the Madrid outfit came in October 2010 when Alvaro Negredo and Freddie Kanoute were on the scoresheet in a 3-1 win.
They are into the final minute of normal time in Valencia and Levante are still holding firm against Barcelona. A draw there would give Atletico a huge boost ahead of kick-off.
Though it is the goals of Diego Costa that have grabbed many of the headlines, it is a strong defence that Simeone's side have been built on so far this season. Incredibly Atletico have conceded just 11 goals in 19 Liga matches, and have kept clean sheets in each of their last six home matches. Sevilla will have to do something special to breach the hosts this evening.
Sevilla: Bastos; Coke, Fazio, Pareja, Navarro; Iborra, Carrico; Moreno, Rakitic, Vitolo; Bacca.
Atletico: Courtois; Juanfran, Godin, Miranda, Filipe; Turan, Koke, Gabi, Garcia; Costa, Villa.
Before we go any further, the two sides have been announced ahead of kick-off in the Spanish capital...
Despite Atletico's superb record, though, a win tonght is by no means a given. Sevilla have certainly improved in recent weeks, and are unbeaten in their last four away matches, winning three of them. A surprise victory for them tonight could see them break into the top six at Real Sociedad's expense.
There are currently ten minutes remaining in Valencia where current leaders Barcelona are being held by Levante at 1-1. If that score remains the same, then a win for the hosts in Madrid would see them go two points clear at the summit. There are few who would have predicted that at the start of the campaign.
