Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago has returned to training after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a muscle injury and may be included on the bench against Real Madrid on Saturday.

Diego Costa has had his yellow card against Sevilla overturned on appeal by the Spanish football federation and is eligible to play, but Arda Turan (ankle) is a doubt.

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho will rest several players with an eye on Tuesday's Champions League semi-final second leg against Borussia Dortmund.

Defenders Alvaro Arbeloa (back) and Marcelo (muscle tear) are definitely out but Michael Essien (hamstring) could return, while Xabi Alonso is available after missing the win over Betis through suspension.

  DID YOU KNOW?
  • Atletico Madrid are on a five-match unbeaten run in La Liga, winning three.
  • Los Colchoneros have lost their last nine encounters against Real Madrid.
  • With just 25 goals conceded in their 32 Liga outings this season, Atletico boast the best defensive record in the Primera Division.
  • Real Madrid have won just one of their last four away games in all competitions.
  • The Castilian side's 4-1 loss at Borussia Dortmund was Jose Mourinho's biggest defeat as coach in 106 Champions League games.
  • Cristiano Ronaldo (pictured, right) has scored six goals in his last three Madrid derbies.

The Colombian striker has enjoyed another fine season and is La Liga's third highest scorer after Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. With Real Madrid likely to rest their first-choice defenders in order to prioritise the Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund, Falcao will hope to lead his team to a long-awaited win over their great rivals.

G. Higuaín

Position: Attacker

The Argentina international has not had the best of seasons and - aside from setting up Cristiano Ronaldo's solitary goal - was largely ineffective against Dortmund. Higuain will look to do better at the Vicente Calderon and help extend Madrid's long unbeaten run against Atletico.

Editor's Prediction

Given Real will probably be more occupied with plotting a comeback against Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday, there may not be a better opportunity than this for Atletico to end their 14-year hoodoo in Madrid derbies. The Colchoneros possess the defensive concentration and the attacking thrust to outdo a second-string Real line-up and secure a historic victory.
